A update on my little girl

Just wanted to let everyone know that my daughters surgery on Friday went very well. They have a great staff in there and they really do care. They made her feel very safe and very special..It did not take very long, but I gotta tell ya, watching your child get put under is something I was not ready for. When she woke up after the surgery she was sooo cute, she said "sorry Dad, I fell asleep" :) she looked like me after a few libations...We spent the better part of the day in recovery and she soaked it up..When it was time to leave she said "I think I want to stay, you guys can go", lol...She loved having popsicles and ginger ale delivered with the push of a button..That and the craftmatic adjustable bed thing made her day..She is still in a good amount of pain and has a temp but meds are helping..She already has another 2 appointments at Ma Eye and Ear for more testing and evaluations, but she is handling it very well...She is a great kid, truely..So to all of you that wished her well and said a little something, it worked :D We still have a ways to go, but you still have to take it one step at a time..I just want her to smile and laugh and love her Christmas morning, that is my xmass wish..Thanks to everyone, I know it helped...Happy Holidays to everyone, and remember that Christmas is about sharing and enjoying life with the ones you love...
-Chris

Dammit..Well just got the results from her hearing test today at Mass Eye and Ear..no improvement, and there is significant nerve damage. Poor girl has to go back in for a Cat Scan this month. They believe she has a condition that will follow her the rest of her life. She will be unable to play any contact sports, not that she is much of a ruffyin..any type of blow to the head could diminish whatever hearing she has left. Hopefully the Cat scan will prove them wrong ..Damn this really sucks. Hardest thing to do is just sit by..Wish i could take it all on myself, sometimes its just not fair..She is such a bright and vivacious little girl. She really lights up rooms..Luckily she has a great spirit that shines..When she was told she had to go back in for the scan she said "you only get what you can handle..." hard to believe she is only 6 sometimes...

BigFish 01-06-2005 04:26 PM

:( Be strong Chris.;)

Bronko 01-06-2005 04:27 PM

Keep the faith, Chris. Hang in there, sometimes things change and improve. I will continue to pray for her.:D

partsjay 01-06-2005 04:29 PM

Stay strong Pal....we're all pulling for you and your family.

Iwannakeeper 01-06-2005 04:36 PM

PM sent as well.

Chris, keep you chin up buddy. You need to stay strong with her. she needs to look to you for strength. She needs to know she can be as strong as you to face these things.

And if you need support - you know when, where, and how to reach me.

Nothing is as important as your love and support. And don't let the experts convince you or her that anything is impossible. The experts are wrong often. Strong, spirited people continually surprise the experts every day.

I know I cannot imagine the heatache of watching your child suffer, but remember you have support.

sounds like an incredible little girl!! you've raised a very special child. stay strong and God bless.

Slipknot 01-07-2005 10:36 AM

You're a good father and have a good kid there. She has the right attitude which will help her cope. It is natural for you to grieve when you realize your child has one problem or another. My own son has struggled with one thing or another since he was born but we get thru it one way or another. Sorry to hear the bad news :( I hope the future gets brighter for you and your family.

tynan19 01-07-2005 12:55 PM

Sorry to hear this Chris, but you will get through it. Enjoy everything else she can provide and try not to dwell on it. Technology is rapidly improving in this field so someday there will be a cure. You can only keep a straight head and chin up and things will get better.:)

Mr. Sandman 01-07-2005 02:42 PM

Great looking kids you have there Chris! As difficult as this is keep the faith, see that she gets the continuing medical treatments show her our love and count your blessings. That is all you can do.
Seeing your (or any) child have to go thru all this is gut wrenching. Press on with whatever treaments are suggested. Little kids can bounce back from amazing situations. Your love for your kids mean more to them then any gift...even at age 6.

She is in our prayers.

God bless.

Jim

A friend's son was born with all kinds of hearing problems. He wound up with occhial (sp?) implants, did well in school and is up for a college scholarship for baseball. Don't give up hope, get a second opinion if you haven't already, and pm me if you want the rest of my friend's story....good luck
