While driving past the bulkhead at the head of Falmouth inner Harbor last evening I spied a guy casting plugs into the water and retrieving them. I pulled over and knew immediatly he was test swimming some. All he had was Surfster style plugs and all were really beautiful. I got out and talked with him and watched him for twenty minutes or so. I ended up being given these two. He was most generous. I must say these are the closest to the real CCBCO I have ever seen.

I like mine better. The best swimming surfsters I have seen yet.
I got the complete line up coming in late March. Link is already on the site. Thanks to Mr Francescon |
Steve makes some of the finest plugs I have seen around.;) Flap...did you get the guys name?
|
I'm sure it was Mr F also he was by the shop yesterday said he was going to falmouth.
|
I know Steve and his wonderful wife who pops in here from time to time just moved to Rhody from PA (probably to get closer to the Superbowl Champion Patriots and further away from the Eagles:laughs: ). I do wish them luck in their new surrondings and I look forward to meeting them soon.:D Hi Steve and Mrs. SF!:wavey:
|
Those are real purty Mike but Black/gold and yellow pearl white are meant to take fish and thats what these babies sre going to do, he had all sorts of gorgeous paint schemes but the basic collors just caught my eye and I suddenly had visions of Pasque in my head. No hanging in my collection these things swam really juicy, I just kept waiting foe a big swirl to come up behind one. The guy's name was Steve, big guy with a hand shake like a steel vise! Ouch!:D
|
Thats him & with no coat just a T-shirt.
|
Yeah! And I was near the "peas-au-frozen" stage. He did ask me if there was a Wal-Mart around so he could by a jacket. He had his wife with him and she said she liked the way we say "Hahba" up here.:)
|
I love the cupped lips, saw a few at plugfest as well...Nice score

Flap right place right time. :D

These plugs are great. They hold in current and rough conditions, including the 7200 size. Great paint and finish and they swim fantastic. the middle plug is another Steve F creation and swims really nice.
pic got lost see next page |

Steve makes a great looking plug. I saw the surfsters at Mikes shop but had never seen the middle one before.
I was inspired by Labrador1 on SOL to make a peanut plug for later in the season. Test swam them this morning now ready for paint. These are for personal stash and won't be made for sale. |

Here is the plug I recieved for a donation, made by Bernzy. So nice don't know if I want to use it. P.M.

P.M. Bring it Saturday :hee:
|
I knew what they were as soon as I saw them. Very maticulous and awesome attention to detail in these plugs. Totally destroyed when the mullet were around in the fall, that cut in the head gives that mullet'ish profile, cast WHAM, cast WHAM, cast miss WHAMMMMM!!!!!! Call 'em cast WHAMS! Forget this surfster stuff :uhuh:
I gave one as part of a wedding present last year :hihi: |

I knew I should have invited you to my wedding:D |

Tagger, i see a surfster meister major award in your future:D
|
Mikecc / ==well worth the talked //
Fishpart part asked me to test a couple of his plugs last week // so I brought along a couple of Steve,s that he was nice enough to give to me /in my efforts to get him a place in RI// as you can figure /I have the smaller of the 3 sizes /// here,s my description // [It has more surductive[sp] action than a black woman,s ass walking down the street in 4 " heels ] |
u mean it[her butt] looks like two kids fighting under a blanket:hihi:
|
Oh yeah baby!:D
|
Tagger, the ones he gave me are I dentical in size and body shape to the #7434, 7-1/4 inches long 2-1/2 ounces +/- a smidge on the weight.;)
|
Flaptail, was he testing any of the medium surfsters? I was wondering how you need to attach these plugs to the line. I have a medium one and I used a breakaway clip when testing it. I was not impressed with the action, there was wiggle but there also was alot of roll to the plug. For 22 bucks I would think it could swim a little better. Maybe I got a bad one or it needs tweaking. I was thinking about changing the hooks to VMC also, I don't know what's with the mustads but for that kind of coin maybe VMC hooks should be included. Very pretty paint jobs though :btu: We'll see if it catches.
|
Slip, he was and everything he had swam great. He tweaked the eye loops on some and that made all the difference. Try that and the ones he generously gave me have VMC'S on 'em.

Slip ,you are a plug builder right ?And you cant "tweak" a plug on your own? Come on ,tell us what it really on your mind :rollem: I bought a bunnch of 7/8 and 1 1/2 ounce last year and i never had it roll on me. I have to agree with Flap here . But maybe your was operator error ? |
Say whatever you want Zeno. Ya I make plugs but I never said I was an expert and I am not good at tweaking them, that's why I have friends like Steve and bassmaster. My friends help me out. What did you think I had on my mind? I'm not getting it.
I did not say it rolled over. I'll be sure to try it again and report back just as soon as I can. There wasn't any for sale around here last year so I missed out I guess, your lucky you got some, good going. How did they fish? catch anything with them? |
I found them outstanding although I got them towards the year end. Some days in Montauk ,when fish were fussy they outfished every other plug by miles. At one point I believe I had sixteen or seventeen bass in the row on the 7/8 plug ,the darn hooks were mangled so bad I had to bend them back after each fish.
I do think they are better used in calmer water than up front as big atom or big Danny's are.You cannot work these darn things slow enough .......but you can go too fast with them.Paint job is nice but is the action that catch a fish. Unfortunately @%#@$# toothy bastards :peessed: took all that I had for a year |
Slip I did real well with them on a few days/nights that we ran into a few pods of mullet on our southern beaches. :kewl:
|
sounds like they are alot like some other cupped lipped lures like wades. They work great in calm water but as the surf builds I'll switch of to a danny. i haven't really got to makin many though.I like to make a bigger plug with that kinda action. Its in the works.I don't think the size is as important as the action.ZZZZZZZ I hate bluefish.
|
They work in conditions other than flat water. I have seen them hold in strong current like the PP canal when it was ripping hard.
