Young Salt 02-22-2005 06:26 PM

what did you end up using for a jig?

Karl F 02-22-2005 06:32 PM

Nice Larry, but too much chingola for me, call me a cheap bastage, but, I'm a firm follower of Keep It Simple Stupid.... (and cheap, too ;) )
Spade bit and a jig, that will work, when I get a round to it.

BigFish 02-22-2005 07:00 PM

No jig yet Young Salt...gonna make one like Afterhours!:D

The 1 inch is just right for the poppers I have been working on and the 3/4 will be great for the smaller ones I have in mind!;)

Fishpart 02-22-2005 07:47 PM

They ain't cheap but you can make mouths with "Deming" drill bits. Take a look a the mouths on some of the poppers from some of the top commercial builders and I bet they have the same shape.

UserRemoved1 02-22-2005 07:52 PM

SO LARRY

How many plugs it worth to youuuuuu

UserRemoved1 02-22-2005 07:55 PM

My mistake

1 1/4" diameter

$30.52

UserRemoved1 02-22-2005 07:55 PM

1" is $22.86

UserRemoved1 02-22-2005 07:57 PM

My cost $18.31 for the 1 1/4"

fishaholic18 02-22-2005 08:00 PM

UserRemoved1 02-22-2005 08:02 PM

Jigman

capesams 02-22-2005 08:46 PM

slip....certain poppers don't have full round depth,,,more of a shallow dish.....in other words if the mouth is 1" wide you need like a 1 3/16th bit to get a shallow cup. then there's blue streak poppers that have a deep cup but need to b large because of the dia of the plug itself....so by using 1 1/8-1 3/16-1 1/4 spade bits ground in different round curves, you can match the plugs of old.

fishaholic18 02-22-2005 09:42 PM

I know I want a 1" and 1 1/4"

Charleston 02-22-2005 10:30 PM

I would like to have 3/4, 1 and 1 1/4

NIB 02-23-2005 08:57 AM

Is that carbide or steel there is a big difference.I use the same round router bit i used on my jig mold an it still cuts fine i clean it up wit a stone ball.

UserRemoved1 02-23-2005 09:02 AM

nib those are HSS steel, no problems with them loosing sharpness, I've cupped over 4000 poppers with ONE and not had a problem....I suspect they would work for what casual builders would do :D I bought a spare just in case but it sits there. It will probably crap out late on a Saturday in the middle of a run though knowing my luck.

The Dad Fisherman 02-23-2005 09:05 AM

I'd be interested in a 3/4 and possibly a 1 inch

mikecc 02-23-2005 09:22 AM

UserRemoved1 02-23-2005 09:26 AM

Mike still cheaper, especially if we can put a group buy together. That's retail price.

fishaholic18 02-23-2005 09:44 AM

Let's do it.

capesams 02-23-2005 12:12 PM

NIB see what I see...there's your flat bottom round counter sink for eye's.

ChrisH 02-23-2005 01:09 PM

Here is a 1" ball rasp that I use, it was only $10
