Really now, are gas prices starting to affect your fishing?

Okay, I know I've been asking this question fairly frequently, but let's take a fresh poll. With unleaded low grade approaching $4 per gallon ahead of the Labor Day weekend, are you going to partake of the pump?

Be honest.

Thanks.

I'm going to modify my fishing but don't expect to fish less this year than last - likely more...

Nebe 09-01-2005 03:20 PM

its not bush's fault... its all the religious nascar loving idiots who voted for him..... they're the ones to blame :bshake:

InTheHole 09-01-2005 03:25 PM

Beautiful weekend comming, seas 1-2 ft, tank 1/2 full, (125 gal), wife and 3 kids ready to go -- IAM GOING -- but it sure will hurt when it comes time to fill up Sunday afternoon..... HMMM I wonder if they will take the smallest child in trade?

Saltheart 09-01-2005 03:30 PM

I'm beginning to really think through all my traveling now. Consolidate trips , do without , walk to lunch , slow down a little. Anyway , $4/gal. does get your attention! :(

Nebe 09-01-2005 03:32 PM

i had the tip of a breachway alllllll to myself last night.

keep the prices high and F al of you folks who live out of state.. stay home and leave my bass alone :D :bshake: :rotf2:

Fishpart 09-01-2005 03:33 PM

$0.125/mile up from $0.0833/mile, 33% increase :af: $5.12 increase in an average surf fishing trip to Nebe's fishing grounds........

kennebecstriper 09-01-2005 03:48 PM

My wife leaves me

My wife finally got fed up with me not being around and now I can barely afford to take local trips due to prices. :splat:

Clammer 09-01-2005 03:58 PM

cut back with the Sea Hunt unless I start fishing [[3] with gas money /

Now I,m gonna keep the CRV & look into getting a trailer hitch /with it I will then tow the tin boat .that uses like no gas ////

soooooooooooooooooooooo I,ll keep doing it

But between gas & the cost of eels //I,m getting closer to crossword puzzles as a [[thing]] :kewl:

ThrowingTimber 09-01-2005 04:03 PM

I love my 4 cyl. taco :hee: :kewl: :ss: 14days

Sweetwater 09-01-2005 04:06 PM

From the boat: I think I'll be "drifting" eels more than trolling...and making shorter runs in the boat.

From the beach: :ss: I won't be running up and down the beach as much, and will keep the truck in just a few spots.

capesams 09-01-2005 04:20 PM

my new yak is getting a work out...freshwater/salt,,,fishing either it's all good.as long as I get to go.

fishaholic18 09-01-2005 04:38 PM

I think I'm going back to my younger years, canoe and electric motor and 2 big a$$ batteries.
This is gonna hurt.

BrianS 09-01-2005 04:51 PM

Ive been so busy its only been 1-2 times a weekend and maybe 1 weeknight..

Working two jobs and going to class does that to you...

but.. since my second job I get to make my own hours and work as much or little as I want, Ill gladly work the extra hour or two to keep it up.

Pete F. 09-01-2005 06:10 PM

Let's see my fishing trips to salt are 450 miles @ 20 mpg = 22.5 gallons @ $3gal= 67.50 Yea, I guess it's gonna cut into my fishing.........I want an electric car. But just wait till that goes up.

NIB 09-01-2005 07:17 PM

34 gallon tank one tank to ri 100 plus one tank back 100 plus.means no shower for 3 days.these gas prices are makin NIB a stinky man.U should see the looks I get by day 4 at Camp Dunkin Donuts.

Rappin Mikey 09-01-2005 07:27 PM

Try living a 150+ miles from where you like to fish every weekend. Im cutting corners. Im only buying a case instead of a 30 pack. Just kidding, I dont even drink.

Bazza 09-01-2005 07:37 PM

These prices will definitly impact my fishing. I have a Dodge Durrango, which really sucks on gas. I have even resorted to taking my wife's Toyota Camery on some trips, and brought some two piece rods. The Toyota is not quite the same, since I can not bring all my stuff with me. However, the Toyota does get much better MPG.

Notaro 09-01-2005 08:00 PM

yes, but also its going to affect my transportation to my school, too. i have to spend more on my education over fishing. Ah, I might fish a little bit more...

TheRattBoy 09-01-2005 09:01 PM

nebe

It's fall , screw pump prices , i'm fishing.

Gas is cheaper in SoCo than it is in my town.

By "non english speaking", I assume you mean people from foreign countries that like to fish. Why is that a problem? I'm not trying to start anything, but I hear this very often and I know and understand the thought process about following the reg's and littering issues that are beaten like a rented mule. So, possibly a bad choice of words? Or, as I touched on, an incomplete thought process?
Again, I'm not trying to start any conflicts over the issue. I just think we need to be careful not to lump people into catagories because of nationality, or any other criteria.

Anyways, back to the topic at hand; Luckily, I saw a lot of this coming and got rid of the gas hog Dodge Ram that required a dedicated refinery in order to commute to work during the week and bought a Toyota pickup that I'm very happy with. I also downsized my boat. If I wasn't working so much, I'd fish as much as I normally do. Thankfully the mandatory overtimes are starting to taper off in time for the fall. Saved some vacation time, and will be hitting it pretty good soon.

Raider Ronnie 09-02-2005 02:35 AM

I see a LOT fewer boats out on the water when I'm out on mine!!!

Mr. Sandman 09-02-2005 05:41 AM

I will not do long runs on the boat anymore this season unless I get a fresh report that is fantastic from multiple sources. It is not worth it. Also I will not do any exploring on the boat until fuel prices come down.

I will do more surf casting. A night in my 4WD burns a lot less fuel then a day on the boat.

Charter guys have to be taking it in the butt. When you hit $750 for a half day charter a lot fewer people will show up. A recent poll of the fishermen here showed a lot fewer guys fishing already at 550/half day.

I bet you see some nice large power boats on the market at reasonable prices this winter!

CAL 09-02-2005 06:10 AM

BigBo, a few times I've been told in broken english that they're taking shorts cuz they gotta feed the family. Figured if they can't afford food then they sure can't afford gas now either.

BigBo 09-02-2005 06:40 AM

Well, like I said, that's wrong. I'm not the PC Police, but still don't think all should be labeled for the faults of some. My personal situation allows me to fish with some "non english speaking" people and all that I know follow the reg's as much as the rest of us.

Now, lets forget about gas prices and go fishing! :btu:

honestly, i dont care if there are a lot of people around or hardly any... i just like to fish :D

eelman 09-02-2005 08:52 AM

I am glad I filled up a couple of days ago at $2.60 full tank and ready to go for the wekend! Will it slow me down nope! I will eat spam, cat food, or anything else but miss a night of fall fishing? No way!

Steve and I are considering car pooling now instead of bringing those two thirsty V8s all the time.......

Westport Jeff 09-02-2005 09:11 AM

No Lookin Back

Filled up my truck this morning, $72.00. My boat is fairly economical with a 115 HP Yammy. The only thing that gets me through the week is thinking about fishing on the weekend. Maybe 2 months left, best fishing of the season is ahead, I'm biting the bullet.

I do miss my tin boat. With the 30 HP Honda I would maybe burn 2 gallons of gas, some days only 1. It only weighed 500# so you did not even know you were towing it. Clammer bought it from me. What a visionary!

Bass Babe 09-02-2005 10:33 AM

Rob Rockcrawler's Post: I just drove in from michigan, 3.69 a gallon out there. thankfuilly i was driving a rented 4 banger. Now its back to my truck. Its tough that the prices hit the roof during the fall run. Im scared of lookin at my visa statement around december, its gunna be a lean cristmas for friends and family, man i hope i catch large.
