msba show

awesome show!!! very well run, great crowd, and awesome spot to have a show. i could only stay for an hour, and i didn't get to hit as many booths as i would have liked, but i scored a few surf asylum plugs and rubber. if you haven't seen these plugs, do yourself a favor and check them out...they look fantastic. it was great meeting dave and dave again...real good guys who took the time to answer any and all questions. saw habs new plugs, too. WOW! defininetly on the list of things to get. props to msba for a great show!

If you haven't been, go! Don't miss this one! While you're there join the MSBA. It's a club you can be proud to belong to.

BobT 03-25-2006 04:34 PM

Sorry to say.....I did not enjoy the show. Got there early and was told that I could not go in the lobby area to meet with old friends because it didn't open until 10. Asked to use the men's room but was told it didn't open until 10. What about the poor guy's that traveled a long way to see the show? Couldn't' use the rest rooms? Aisles were small and couldn't move. I will not be going if it's there next year. What happened to the plug turning? All glitz and no glory. More guy's sitting at the bar than at the show. Not as many vendors this year?? Save you money and don't go and go to the RISSA show. Best in the area.

i for one had a great time.
the msba puts on a great show.
saw many friends from here and came home with a lot of new toys.

I don't care if the aisles were a little crowded. Do you remember when it was in Filenes basement? Now that's crowded.

Had a great time. Chewed the fat with a bunch of guys and met some members of this site that I hadn't met before. Got some great plugs, Surf Asylum guys make some real nice stuff and you can't beat the price.

Slingah, how dare you drink that apple cider! :bl2:

BigFish 03-25-2006 05:00 PM

I had a blast! Thought the club did a fabulous job with everything! Great hanging with all the folks from here I ran into....it was funny because periodically, a few builders would collide and next thing you new there was wood flying out of bags all over the place!:eyes: Nice seeing and talking with all the folks from here I got to speak with!

Bob Thomas 03-25-2006 05:17 PM

Well, if the show is at Gillette next year, this will have been the last year I attend this show.

1. We arrived around 0915 hours to meet and greet, as we have done in the past. Upon meeting many friends, we decided that we'd wait it out inside the warmth at around 0930. First we were greeted by some moron security guard sayind we were parked in the handicapped parking area and if we don't move, we'd received a ticket. Lemme tell you, fella, the lot was not marked as per Mass general law. That's first and foremost. He was a total jerk! Gillette's fault, not MSBA

2. Upon entering the building, we were greeting by a nice lady who promptly asked if we were volunteers. "No" we replied. We were most politely advised :yak: that the show did not start until 10 and we were to leave immediately. When asked if our elder could use the bathroom, we were advised, "I said the show does not open until 10. No you may not" Again, Gillette's fault, not MSBA

3. The show was missing many vendors/people, Hatteras, CMS, Gibbs just to name a few. Was kinda dissapointed about this. They were vendors I grew to appreciate! Oh well, not MSBA's fault.

4. The quarters were cramped, not as in last year. Last year was great....plenty of room, we were warm and had bathrooms at our disposal before the show and even had turning going on. With all the talk about turning, the only place I saw turning was in the heads of anglers. Probably not MSBA's fault

5. How can someone get a 10 foot rod in that place??? The ceilings were only 8' tall at max! This prevented testing newer rods and getting a feel for the new equipment!

6. The empty booths....what gives? Someone forget to pay their bills? Really empty!

I enjoyed seeing people I have not seen around lately but I felt that the show lacked something, yet I can't put my finger on what! The large outfitters, Hatteras, CMS, were not there. It seemed to be missing. The promised turning did not happen, at least according the "red shirts" which we were told to ask. They knew nothing about any "Turning."

I enjoyed seeing people I have not seen, Salty, Mike, Habs, etc. but fear that this was my last.

Everyone has their own opinions and this is mine. To each his own.

Go ahead....crucify me now....I don't care. This is my observation. Msba had a great thing with the inside location but the "Comfort" factor exhibited by the Gillette staff was ridiculous! They should be spanked with a wet noodle for their BS! MSBA should probably tell them that there were many unhappy people with the attitude. It felt like a herring pulling day with 100 people and 7 herring!

Just my opinion...MSBA is a great organization but the Gillette people brought it down!

thefishingfreak 03-25-2006 05:26 PM

awe,,, cut the crap bob thomas.

the msba tries to provide something for everyone, and some people are allways looking for mistakes.
no need to bash the whole show because you forgot to go pee before you left...
i stood out in the cold like everyone else.

luds 03-25-2006 05:41 PM

I enjoyed the show and got some good deals. Salty Needles for $9, Yozuri Surface Cruiser $11 and hydro pencils for $6. M&D's was loaded but I actually kept my wallet in my pocket. Walked by CMS(THEY WERE THERE) without even looking through the rods too. I'm proud of myself.:

Only thing that sucked was waiting in the lobby to get in. I had to stand next to some smelly dude. I think it felt cramped because there were so many people. If I remember correctly MSBA worked pretty hard to get a venue at all. Gillette seemed like it worked fine. Thought MSBA and Gillette did a great job with the show.

:thanks:

lurch 03-25-2006 05:53 PM

I agree that the show was great but I agree that the feel was not the same. I hope the show is in a different center...dont get me wrong the show was great and the folks from MSBA did a great job but I felt cramped.

StripinLine 03-25-2006 05:54 PM

what time does the show open tomorrow???

I agree that the MSBA tries hard every year to put on a good show. Don't get me wrong, the show was good but as stated, the "Feel" was not there. I feel that the "feel" can be attributed to the Gillette staff! MSBA is not at fault for that!

As for the Pee...we drove 1 1/2 hours to get there. The least they staff could have done is allow access to the batrooms! What about the guys from Joisey? They were complaining as well. There was some wet pavement in the parking lot and it was not from the rain ;)

MSBA did a good job but Gillette staff needs a little "Customer relations" training!

Clogston29 03-25-2006 06:07 PM

It was alright, I got what I went for and alittle more. I agree about Gillete not being the best location that its been held at. They should have been much more organized downstairs so that people could line up and it was pretty cramped.

Squid kids Dad 03-25-2006 06:07 PM

Show

Sunday...9:00 till 5:00

Squid kids Dad 03-25-2006 06:25 PM

Cant always please everyone...sorry

BigFish 03-25-2006 06:49 PM

As stated...CMS was there and I am told that Hatteras Jack had a family health emergency going on so had to cancell at the last minute.

Given that this show was put together in a 3 month time frame due to issues which arose regarding our last venue....you gotta tip your hat for the fine job MSBA did with this show in a short amount of time, never mind when you have a whole year to prepare. I gotta say I thought the venue was great, lots of places to hang out, take a load off and chat with folks....made you want to stay all day.

In regards to the turning demo as I said....with the short time frame to work with things did not work out as planned in that regard. It was hoped that the club could get that jump started late but there were a few snags and snafus...maybe it will happen again in the future.

As for a potty....there was a porto-potty in the lot....you had to have driven past it on the way in....about 50 yards from the main entrance. Rules are rules and the Gillette workers have theirs to follow.....otherwise some would take advantage as some always will.

Fishing rods??? Never saw so many leaving the show in new owners hands as I saw today!:bounce:

gone fishin 03-25-2006 07:13 PM

I cannot believe the pissing and moaniing from someone who had to drive a long distance. :rocketem: If you read the postings on this site and on the bulletins and on the TV and from word of mouth you would have at least the intellegence to make a piss call on the way and arrive at 10 am. That would have eliminated your bitching about the waiting and the toilet availability. The porta potty was there in the lot as BF stated. The ceiling height in the front of the show was no lower than Filenes, but the lighting was poor. Guaranteed that venors will take note and provide more for their booths next show.
As far as the show goes -- I think the show was excellent. There are things to iron out as this is the first time at Gillette. BUT with the count of good customers and shoppers attending, I will bet that all vendors that were not present will be begging for space next year.

THANK YOU PATRICK AND THE MSBA FOR YOUR EXCELLENT EFFORT AND A GOOD SHOW.:bsod: :kewl: :claps: :claps:

Striperhound 03-25-2006 07:31 PM

Drove an hour myself and had a great time. Nice talking to Dave and Dave again, your rubba looks great along with the new plug lineup. I was able to score a RM Smith plug that I will never fish it is just to nice. The purple-black-gold scale effect is awesome. Talked with Frank D as well-great time, thanks to everyone who organized it.

Wow, I guess a guy can't even post an opinion without getting his chit jumped on:( Everyone is entitled to his (or her) own opinion and it should be respected even if it differs from your own...............

tattoobob 03-25-2006 07:54 PM

I got there at 10:30 and just got home, I never went to the other show but this was by far the best show I ever went to. I never made it to the end I saw so many peolpe that I new or met for the first time I never saw the whole show. It was packed in the start of the show but thinned out at the end. I was at the raffle table for 3 hrs. at the end of the show.

PNG 03-25-2006 07:57 PM

MSBA does a GREAT job. Kudo's to the volunteers:btu:

One side was a little tight but the other was spacious. I think its a fantastic place with excellent facilities

MSBA:thanks:

Not sure about the others Bob, but CMS was there.

jkswimmer 03-25-2006 08:06 PM

CMS was there but NJ tackle was not or Hatteras and this might not be MSBA fault. I liked the show at the mall better.

Very Well Said MAC.

Just my 2 cents, but I would think that the club would be open to all input, and concerned for what folks think, and might need to be fixed.
I will be going there tommorrow, and check it out.
seems like most went today... did you MAC?

BigFish 03-25-2006 08:16 PM

No shortage of urinals in the Mens rooms though huh guys?:bgi:

Finaddict 03-25-2006 08:17 PM

Excellent show

Agreed with many on this listing, I though Patrick and his crew did an excellent job. It's not easy to put on a show of this size and please everyone but at least the MSBA crew was able to get it going, which is 90 percent if not more, of the challenge.

The location was good, easy access and a lot of great booths, presentations and people to see and catch up with. Hats off to the MSBA crew. Thanks for an enjoyable day. :musc:

As a plumber I was very surprised at how many there were but I guess they need them considering the crowds they have. there must have been 30 in each bathroom

The show hours are clearly stated on the MSBA site as well as the Expo site!
Bob, you said you're self you got there early, so why start out complaining because they would't let you in early ???
This was the 1st year at this new location and with everything, there will be some learning curves to improve on in the future!

Saltheart 03-25-2006 08:31 PM

I enjoyed being in the stadium for the first time. As far as the show , the general concensus amongst the three in my car was that it was good but not that good . I never thought about the low lighting on the one side , that might have been part of it feeling subdued.

I too noticed that some of the bigger vendors were absence , don't know why. Anyway , I found the location facinating but overall the show was 50-50 IMO. Hey , first time in a new place , I'm sure they'll work the bugs out for next year.

I would think MSBA would be very interested in all opinions as oppurtunities for improvement , not as criticism , so as to make improvements if possible next year.

As always , one of the best parts of the show was seeing everyone. We all had a good time.

Slingah 03-25-2006 08:35 PM

I am sure Patrick would love to hear ALL comments and feedback.
I think it is a good spot......way better than that basement.....
nice and clean...cool view...plenty of places to sit.....food and beverages...A BIG step-up in my eyes

macojoe 03-25-2006 08:38 PM

Thought it was great!!
Much better then years past!
First Year in new set up, they will learn and make better each year!

I got there 10:30 and there was no line waiting to get in.

Saw many from the site!!

Saw John, the booth looked great!

Saw BigFish leaving the restroom as I was going in, then he disappeared?? so never got to see him. Must have been the long ride, he had to pee so bad that he was no aware of his surroundings!!

RI Pooper and Samuai working there booth had some nice stuff!! Hope you guys made out great!

Got some stuff from Mike at M&D, his booth was cooking man!! I was passing it a little later and his wife was getting a second of rest and I said it was slowing down, and she had a THANK GOD all over her face!! Great Job Guys!!

My Daughter went with me and bought some Needle fish lures, Her first tackle purchase of her own!! and the honor goes to Salty!!
Salty was great, talked to her and told her just how to fish them, and how to use the rod! Thanks Salty!! she is all excited now!

Also got to meet Pete Santini and sat in on his show, "Boston Harbor Grand Slam" Was a great show told some good stuff!!
I just have one problem Pete, Why didn't you just give us the GPS numbers?;)

All and all, a great show!! and I will go again next year! I am sure they are aware of any problems and will work to fix them for next year, and if anyone has a sugestion I am sure they will listen to them all!

Someone must of had a talk with Van since last year?? I did not catch him sleeping this year! LOL

Great show guys!! Great Job!!

nightfighter 03-25-2006 08:41 PM

I have had this show date on my calendar since it was announced. Looking forward to it as much as I have been, I was not disappointed. Did I find a reel deal? No. But I got to BS with at least 40 member from this site, picked up some neccessities for the coming year, saw some great speakers, and had the opportunity to learn more from all the knowledgable people I had the chance to ask questions of. Meeting folks from here for the first time and reaquainting with others a second time is one of the primary reasons I look so forward to this event.
Got some nice plugs and rubber from sponsors and am always glad to support you guys. Made some nice additions to my arsenal and even stayed within my budget. Best score, surprisingly, was approximately 5000 yds of Yozuri Hybrid smoke colored for $15.00! Was surprised by the lack of kayak fishing related gear though. Now if I can get the call from the MSBA raffle for the VS reel, life would be gooood!
MikeP, PNG, and Specialist, thank you, you know why.

Ross

Happy 6th Birthday S-B! Nice job Boss.

Raider Ronnie 03-25-2006 08:44 PM

This is just my opinion,
But I think the location is awesome and very intimate compared to other shows that you feel like you are in a big warehouse or a supermarket , just going up and down the same looking isles!
And this is coming from a Raiders fan !!!:gf:

mikecc 03-25-2006 08:48 PM

I thought the show is going great. I did have to bring in my own lighting. was a little drak in my area, but a quick fix.
I must have seen 200+ people from the site today:wavey:
Thanks for stopping buy and saying hi.
The MSBA workers are great helping out in whatever they can do to assist. We loded up with all kinds of stuff. Got plenty of Hab's & RM Smith plugs left.
The Hogy lures were a big hit.:kewl:

All in all a great show. I will be back
Glad to support MSBA and all it's members

TheSpecialist 03-25-2006 08:53 PM

For the amount of time they had, I thought they did a wonderful job. Part of the problem with not letting people use the bathroom early was probably due to the fact that they were all upstairs, and I am sure that the stadium would have been facing a liability issue had they let anyone in early. CMS was there as I bought 2 Fluke rods from them and Mike P bought a custom 1209, so there was room for 10' rods to be displayed. Was the show perfect? Probably not, but it felt alot warmer, more comfortable than years passed. One thing people seemed to complain about was the fact that the ticket price was higher, what they do not take into consideration is the venue is more exspensive, and the vendors paid more without complaining.

Oh well you can please some of the people all of the time, and all of the people none of the time.

macojoe 03-25-2006 08:56 PM

Don't forget the parking was free also! so in the end it is cheaper then going to the bigger shows!
