I am hoping that there are some big fish around Cuttyhunk next weekend
so we can weigh a couple of 40 pounders in. |
Anyone know how often they update standings

I see TO knocked me out of the SB top ten--it was nice seeing my name there for a month. Now, I have to sift thru the 100 other guys in the 30 pounder club :D |
I don't know the guy, but I would have to say this fellow Gary DeCosta is a fish magnet! I would like to learn from him! Impressive.
|
I weighed 5 fish over #180 last month and not listed but than again after this month I bet all runner up's will have over 200.

Well I made the decision to do it.I'm up to my neck in it now. I may as well see it through. When I saw the format I thought i would have a shot at it.I still do.Plus I made a promise to a team to participate.I know that don't mean much to some but after i kill a bunch an they back out how does that make me feel... I counted 142-30 lbers weighed in for the tourney.I wonder how many would have been let go if NOT for the tourney. Next yr.I will be on the side lines on this one. It's just hard to feel good about it.for a trophy... |
I am willing to bet 125 would have met there demise

I have not heard of anything official on that but just happened to notice that the name is absent on the OTW leader board. So logical guess is that either OTW disqualified him OR he pulled himself out of the competition.... |
What I heard from an OTW staffer was that they were going to require him to submit to a polygraph exam. I'm guessing he decided to withdraw on his own. He is really concerned about the hit his reputation took---probably more concerned with that than with winning a new truck.
And as far as can be determined, he was never issued a citation for the violation. Which is what put OTW between a rock and a hard place. |
Last month when i was at the canal I stopped by redtop. They had this free sportsman club newspaper in there.Had a nic big article on him in it.They mentioned his success in the tourney an also had a pic of a boat loaded with huge bass.
|
Major still caught his fish................
|
I agree 100 percent.Said it all along.com or not he got his fish..I feel he was being unfairly scrutinized.

I liked your 1st response better  You charmer you :laugha: I think many people did care because of the tourney. The guy can catch fish is for sure. |

Jim - hope you didn't take this the wrong way. NIB - proud of you for letting your conscious speak. Dennis |
Doesnt matter he caught large with a hook and line..........everyone wants to jump all over everyone else....jealousy and a sick need to see the guy tossed under the bus..until something happens to them...what comes around goes around, I would hate to have anyone here on my jury....seems most here love to see there fellow man "caught" or nailed or whatever..Mistakes happen people are human, what he did was no big deal. His fish should count.
what I said before was what I will say again, to many of you are wayyyyyyyyyy to wraped up in this tourney and so worried about what the "other" guys is doing.....Who the %$%$%$%$ cares........ |
We are 79.29 points from 1st place, all we need it 2 40 pound fish or to take the lead come on Cuttyhunk I am hoping it produces some nice fish this coming weekend. we have 14 days to take the lead over

Bill - why is it that half the time when you see something you don't agree on you call it jealousy? You think people are jealous of Major?
The guy allegedly had 6 bass in his boat when he could legally have two - where is the jealousy? "Mistakes happen people are human, what he did was no big deal. His fish should count." How is having 6 fish in a boat a mistake? What he did is a big deal. If this is not true his fish should not count. |

Point Two, why do I say its jelousy? because of things like whats under your name..."changing my name to tony" there are more reasons but hey that makes my point, now I know you did that to be funny and all but, its just the constant talk of comms have an advantage etc... no they do not.....they fish with rod and reel like anyone else, they dont "cull" as much as everyone here would have people think, no one tosses money over the side just to get a pin.... let me see: "its not fair" I have seen that here so many times it needs to be in the dear abby column |
Well lets talk realistically for a moment. They guy is a comm.the season is not open yet an he get busted with 4 extra fish.
OOPs Well i don't know where the mistake is.It's pretty obvious he had some one or place to move em to.He was tryin to make a feew illegal duckets. He got caught. So,Either he got a ticket. Paid the fine or did his time, so to say.Or has not even had a day in court yet.whatever it doesn't matter. OK so someone tell me. How does this effect what he did in the tourney. Did OTW decide he was to unscrupulous after the fact. I think in the rules it says they have the right. It's there ball. I think it's unfortunate if they outright DQ'd him or caused him to back out. U know mostly I disagree with Bill. But On this one I have to agree. If he was guilty he should have by now paid his debt to society. He should be absolved. Let those who without sin cast the first stone.JC I know I ain't troin no rocks |
Bill - you are missing my point. The guy came on here and said he had a "miscue" - a simple mistake. How does a veteran saltwater striped bass angler like that "miscue" on how many fish he has in the boat? Also, if you read my posts, the word "alledged" is used and is the proper term in a case like that.
A miscue is like a guy was fishing 1/4 mile in the eez. A miscue is keeping three fish becuase you are out of work and need to feed your family. Keeping 6 fish when allowed 2 is not allowed under any circumstance at that time, commercial or not. That is not a miscue. This is nothing about the quality of angler of the guy - obviously he's pretty stinkin' good. It is about what is ethical among anglers, what is legal in the eyes of the law and regulation, and what is good judgement for those that run a tournament. |
Question; If you entered in the boat catagory can you enter a shore caught fish...and visversa?? The way I see it is,, Mr.Major got busted, countless didn't and some jealous fisherman dropped the dime on him.

John, u know the answer to that...East wind and it's snotty out..:bl: |
Well , not to toss more lumber into the fire but I for one am glad to see Mr Major out of the running. Looks to me that what ever the events in pulling his name it was the correct thing to do.
The jury is still out on "what happened" with drew himself or tossed out by OTW. Looks like a nuff stuff happened that now his name is gone  VB |

We'd have to average close to 47 pounds among our top 10 fish to take the lead. |

Guys, Here's something to consider which hasn't been discussed as of yet. There are considerable sponsorship dollars involved with this tournament. If you do the math, it is evident that the entry fees alone don't cover the cost of ads, admin, prizes etc. A lot of the stuff is likely donated. Look over the list of sponsors and you'll see that there is likely pressure on OTW to do "the right thing". Whether expressed or implied, I would presume OTW's reputation and ethics will be highly scrutinized by everyone, particularly the sponsors, regarding the handling of this situation. Any sniff of impropriety with regard to the way things get handled, and the tourney could suffer a hit, and OTW's reputation could also. I realize no facts have been presented regarding the Major situation, but the outcome is what I would expect given the little info I've been privy to. OTW is a great outfit, and I feel the tourney has been very well run, particulary being the first year and somewhere north of 2,000 people have entered. The situation is unfortunate, but the outcome doesn't surprise me. Whether the guy withdrew or was forced out, it doesn't matter. Having him on the leader board raises too many questions by the major stake holders IMO. |

Nobody is saying the comms are culling, they don't have to. Here's a scenario. Comm guy has say 10 fish on the boat, some 20's and a few 30's. Decides to weigh in the biggest 30 for the tourney and keep fishing for his limit. Whattaya know, he gets a 40. Keeps that for the tourney and keeps fishing. Later on gets another one even bigger, just throw it on the pile, I'll weigh that one instead. And so on and so on. He's not throwing anything over the side. Now you tell me how a comm doesn't have an advantage when a rec has to make the decision when to keep a fish when he reaches two. Major may or may not have broken the law, but this has nothing to do with jealousy .I don't see anyone bitchin' about the guy that now holds the top spot. |
No one is going to bitch about Lev Wlodyka. He's fished like a maniac since he was a 12 year old. Dad would drop him off at the Menemsha jetty in the morning and come back to pick him up at dusk. Give him $10 to buy a sandwich and some drinks at the Texaco station. And the kid would cast the whole time--sometimes take a bite of his sandwich between casts.
