shooting stars
who was out between 12am- first sun friday in to saturday.
how many shooting starts did you count never seen anything like it I counted 41, then lost track awesome |
Funny, I was going to post the same thing. It was sorta like that 70's movie " Day of the Trifids" or something like that. Lost count over how many wishes I got, birthday presents, solving world hunger, peace, just to name a few.
They were intense, like bottle rockets on the 4th. Not just in one area of the sky. The only other time I expereinced anything else like that was out on the vineyard in the mid 90's. So many shooting stars. Way too many to count. BTW, I was fishing central CT this am when I saw them. |
Probably were the Orionids...it's a major shower this time of year.

yeah, saw about 30. I wished for a 50 on each one....so much for the Disney tune.

To be competitive you must be well ahead of the ball, and trust me, the high fashion surfcasting industry is cutthroat. -spence |

The shooting stars were incredible. Some very bright white. An amazing site. Looked almost apocalyptic. I saw some last night as well around 2 am.
|
Saw one at dusk Friday to the ENE low moving down towards the horizon. Thought I was seeing things.
|
Back in my astronomy days we used to go out during the peak times and count them, you see a lot more when actually paying attention.
You've gotta love it when one is so big it casts shadows and you can see the trail for moments after. -spence |
I didn't see the ones you guys saw, but I've seen 'em in abundance and the are a sight to behold.:btu:
|
I almost ran into a channel marker around 4:30 AM this morning as I had my eyes on the skys. Lots of bright white shooting stars has I headed down the Bay.
56 degree water. Marked tons of fish in the deep channels. Water dropped 4 degrees since Thursday. Might be time to pull the boat and get back in the surf. |
I saw probably well over hundred from Fri at 8pm till Sat around 645am in SOCO. It was getting light out and it they were still visible.
|
Many Saturday night as well from 10 to 2AM...

I was at the eastern end of the canal and saw a bunch of them on Sat AM. At first I thought it was just something with my glasses and the lights, but then saw a couple of really bright ones go by - very cool.
|
Here in NH it was like fireworks. Never saw anything like it.
|
funny, i was going to post the same thing.
sat night after the cookout it seems every time i turned my head i saw something shooting across the sky. at least a dozen that i noticed. |
WeeWee - Saturday AM was significantly more loaded then Sat night. I saw some at night but at Oh Dark Thirty Saturday morn you would see several just during the course of a single retrieve... The only thing missing was the Quonny Northern Lights that happens on ccccoooollddd October deepnights

went a couple miles south for first light |
Saturday night saw them every time I looked up at the sky ... it was cold but it was cool. This pretty much took place from 8 p.m. to 2:30 a.m.
|
Sat am before the sun came up the sky was unbelievable..
|
a hit of acid would have made the show last longer. At least thats what I was thinking and then cast oops wrong spot lost plug .
|
I was out early saturday morning as well. Windy as heck too, but I wasnt even thinking about it staring at the sky. Lost my balance a few times gazing up and almost ended up in the drink. It took a few hours but I was finally rewarded with a nice keeper.

Pretty much the same out sat night. Did anyone catch that star that just exploded? It was shooting for a bit then BLAM blue and white light everywhere.
|
We were at the Wellfleet Drive-in one night watching "The Deep" and the meteors were coming from behind the screen. You could hear "OOOHs ans AAAAAHs" from all over the lot and it wasn't over Bissett's wet T-shirt.:)
|
I was walking away from my friend on the beach , saw this flash from behind me and heard him yell, That thing was bright even looking away from it!!! There was another that trailed out for a long time, probably 4 seconds or so, I almost felt like I was in that Tacoma commercial it came so close.
