BigFish 01-06-2007 08:01 AM

Karl...they just released an album together called "Road to Escondido". Its great!:bgi:

afterhours 01-06-2007 08:16 AM

just watched clapton play with the band on the last waltz...awesome- he and robbie robertson wailin'..easy to make an argument that clapton is the best ever..

BigFish 01-06-2007 08:21 AM

Its all conjecture....but given the number of years he has been at it, the changes he has been through from a music and time standpoint and the overall body of work.......I believe he is the best ever!:uhuh:

Tagger, CREAM :btu: how about "Toad"? You ever sit behind the drums and play along with that? I did that many years ago, good stuff. Buddy Rich was the man when I was a kid. My older brother had a lot of good music and he played guitar, about 1978 he was very into Hendrix.
Nowadays, I just like fishing and football. I need to put a cd player out in the shop to crank some tunes up again.

Tagger 01-06-2007 08:30 PM

Oh yea ... I remember playing "Wipe Out " Played it at a jr.high dance in 7th grade. A teacher requested it 3 times ,, thought my arms were going to fly off .. Instant Stardom ...:tm: then it was" In a Gada Davida" then" Toad " Very frustrating Toad .. Ginger Baker had double bass ... I didn't .. Beach Clubs ,,, Boston ,, I was on my way .. then found substance abuse .. lost my edge and never recovered .. found roofing ,,, found drywall ,,found framing .. found plug building ..:alien: here I fester...:yak:

Eric Clapton is awesome, but I'm sorry, Ginger Baker sucks as a drummer !!!
You want to see Clapton with one of the best drummers alive, that would be Steve Gadd !!!

Ginger Baker was drummer of the year in Playboy one year .. if memorie serves me .. Looking at him now I think,, what was the big deal . but that was a long times ago and was even cutting edge. Alot has happened since then .. I remember funk had alot to do with it ,,, drummers got funky .. Then there was fussion ..drummers played off time,, jazz/rock started getting very intteresting ... so many great drummers now ... I like the guy who plays for Dave Mathews .. very tight ,,,he does alot of little things ... very tasteful .. nice back and forth between bass and snare .. some times almost a drum core ..vibe ..

Raider Ronnie 01-06-2007 09:49 PM

Ginger Baker is not even on the same planet as Steve Gadd and the 2 other guys here!!!

ProfessorM 01-06-2007 09:51 PM

I resemble that old folks remark. S. Gadd is brilliant. Did a lot of east coast studio work. I have been a big fan of Claptons back up guitarist on some of his tours, Albert Lee, very underrated. Claptons is great as much as I don't like to admit it. When I was a little kid my bake out uncle played him non stop in his room at my grandmother's house in the 60's. He still is a big fan.
