Looking for suggestions for TFCTFN entertainment?
Thanks! John |
Get into tying saltwater flies,I bought a fly fishing vise and a bunch of material, and started to tie decievers and clousers. It's a fun hobby to start, and you can use them as teasers in the spring.

We make have to change the name to
"Too Freikin' Warm To Fish Night " if the weather remains the same. Acoustical guitar player with sing along songs like "American Pie", etc. |
It'd be great if some of you guys would hold off on the hijinks, or avoid getting pulled over by the Staties, until you crossed into Mattapoisett heading east, Westport heading west, or Lakeville heading north. :D :bl:
I don't need to see yer mugs in New Bedford District Court first thing Monday morning ;) |

I live on Long Island but travel around New England as part of my job. Today at 5AM when I got up so I could catch the 7AM US Airways flight to Logan Apt my thermometer read 26 degrees. When I landed around 8AM, it was 24 in Boston!! And that WIND!!
I was in Woburn, Billerica, Beverly and Danvers today - froze my ass off everywhere I went. I guess winter is finally here.... |

Happy to help out.
Hi John,
I would be happy to put something together for your annual get together. However, simply playing a copy of “Stripers Gone Wild” is a copyright infringement of the highest degree. Let me know what night you’re planning on having the event and if I’m not doing a show elsewhere or traveling to one, I’ll be there. Even if I can’t make it, I’ll burn you a special DVD with excerpts from SGW and a lot of other interesting footage from my 2007 seminar show. Ask anyone that was at the East Bay Angler Show this week and I think you’ll get some positive feedback regarding the content. I really appreciate the support shown by folks that have purchased my DVD and have taken the time to post their thoughts on it. John, you have a great site here…it’s a direct reflection of all your hard work maintaining the site and constantly improving it…it’s also a great site because of the involvement of hundreds of obsessive, compulsive, striper nuts that take the time to share their thoughts and feelings. I’ve met a lot of really great people through this site and I would like to say thank you with a contribution to your evening’s entertainment. Perhaps we can even get to meet some of the really cool lurkers that are out there. Let me know the date as soon as possible. Mike |

when is it,,, or did i miss it?
|
Uhm... i could put together another slide show?
Do we already have a date scheduled?? |
I had a 6:10 AM out of Denver Thursday morning and it was -3 in Broomfield where I stayed. Yes, on business.
|
Hmmmm........... copyright infringement. !!!???
All this time I thought it was an oppurtunity for free advertising. Live and learn. |
So when and where for TFCTFN???:hang:
|
When is (tenatively) March 3rd at 7 pm at VFW Fairhaven.
That is, of course, if the Dons get the hall at the last minute, and save the party (like they always do). Donations will be accepted in the big black Avalanche in the back. |

Ya I was thinking the same thing throwing timber. Is it copyright if I had 10 of my friends over to my house to watch the movie? Seeing that this site probably did a lot in terms of advertising for you I dont see why you wouldnt like 20 or so people watch the movie, if anything it would be great free advertising for the movie.

Thats what I mean. JohnR isn't making a profit off of showing this movie. A fishing documentary is alot different than a hollywood movie also. People want to have this movie for themselves so that they are able to watch it whenever to get pumped up for the season or refresh their memory on a certain lesson. As of now I have not purchased the movie but have every intention to purchase the movie regardless of wether or not it is shown at the meeting.

He may not "make a profit" but he may draw more people to the event with the announced showing of it, thus costing the producer. Is this not true? |
Copyright
Not for nothing, and I dont disagree with Fisheye, but I have a question as far as copyright infringment is concerned. You cant lend a CD, or copy one, you cant have a few people or fifty over to watch a movie and/ or copy it, but libraries can lend books with copyrights attached to them. You can copy any part of the book you want for future reference or resuse (researching school work). You can also get CD's (music and video) without charge, from the library, how is that different?

TT is right, and the law applies to public viewings, not private.

Copyright issues aside for a moment Mike offered several days ago to put together some video should we choose to accept for TFCTFN. He will be doing a show on that tentative (for us) weekend otherwise he offered to show up and bring some schtuff for us.
Now I'm not exactly a lawyer but I would assume that the whole "copyright" doohickey is imaterial in any case should the publisher (which I assume is Laptew Productions) gave permission for us to use it. I also think it would be a captive audience infomercial almost in getting people to chose to purchase the DVD. But as much as I am not a lawyer I am also not a marketing wunderkind either. So any of that would be up to Mike. I also think that he was nice to offer other video should we choose that route.... |

Anyway, the law is clear on this... ===================================== The public performance right allows the copyright holder to control the public performance of certain copyrighted works. The scope of the performance right is limited to the following types of works: literary works, musical works, dramatic works, choreographic works, pantomimes, motion pictures, and audio visual works. Under the public performance right, a copyright holder is allowed to control when the work is performed "publicly." A performance is considered "public" when the work is performed in a "place open to the public or at a place where a substantial number of persons outside of a normal circle of a family and its social acquaintances are gathered." A performance is also considered to be public if it is transmitted to multiple locations, such as through television and radio. Thus, it would be a violation of the public performance right in a motion picture to rent a video and to show it in a public park or theater without obtaining a license from the copyright holder. In contrast, the performance of the video on a home TV where friends and family are gathered would not be considered a "public" performance and would not be prohibited under the Copyright Act.
