Just Hit a Deer

Boy they do alot of Damage................

tattoobob 02-23-2007 08:13 PM

In your new Explorer that sucks. I hope it was a head shot so at least you got to keep the meat

ChiefLinesider 02-23-2007 08:23 PM

It was very surprising the damage it did to the Honda Accord I owned a few years back. I hit a nice buck doing about 40. The deer had managed to go another 25 yards before lying down. Pretty hardy animals. Still alive in a ditch, the cops came & shot it. I had venison for months.

The front of my car was totaled, bumper hanging off, radiator smashed, hood destroyed, both fenders bent. I always drive extra slow through that stretch of road now.

Goose 02-23-2007 08:30 PM

See, it doesn't pay to pass on doe's.

NIB 02-23-2007 08:33 PM

Thats terrible,
I hope no plugs where in the truck..
I hit a deer once in a 65 ford econoline van the kind with the straight nose..totally f'd me radiator, lights, bumber, trims.
I was 19 yrs old living on my own..we picked it up an ate it..

Hope you're ok, Habs

On the way to the Gay Head Light, 50 yards past the deer crossing sign, a buck decided it was Rudolph and flew from the field to in front of my Jeep in about 2 seconds. It resulted in $1,800 damage and a deer that managed to get away without a trace.

John it was a good thing you weren't making a needlefish delivery or you could have stepped out of the car looking like a porcupine.

Hope it didn't screw up your back.

Mike

bassmaster 02-24-2007 10:05 AM

hows it taste?

piemma 02-24-2007 10:27 AM

i hit a deer on 295 in greenville RI one night going to the beach fishing in November. I had a Dodge Power with 33" tires. I hit this buck at about 65MPH. It was like a grenade went off. Totalled the truck and broke off 8 points stuck right in the grill. Real scarey as I didn't know what the hell I hit till I saw the antlers stuck in the grill.

Pt.JudeJoe 02-24-2007 06:01 PM

:hidin: tonight's special----deer on the grill

Kidding aside ,glad you are ok John

Hi Joe :wavey:

tattoobob 02-24-2007 06:53 PM

I hit a fox once going 75 80 mph on rt 16 in NH this thing exploded on impact and didn't even put a mark on the van I was driving

SirWinston 02-24-2007 07:05 PM

Coming around the bend from I95 onto Rt 4 one night, I had a raccoon running straight across my bows from left to right. Split second, managed to steer tighter into the corner, missed the raccoon......and walloped his mate. One almighty thump.

It took me ages to work out what the hell I hit, since I knew that I had missed the one that I had seen. I saw it on the road the next morning as I drove back up.

Not a scratch on the old Isuzu rodeo.

Hope that you're ok, Habs.

Raider Ronnie 02-24-2007 07:35 PM

I've fixed many cars/trucks that have hit deer.
Makes a mess, especially if the deer goes over the hood and hits the windshield !
Nothing worst than glass splinters everywhere inside the vehicle!

ThrowingTimber 02-25-2007 06:47 PM

John,

Its easier if ya just shoot em, buy hey this is America if you want to hit them with an Explorer more power to ya!!! :laughs:

Hope you're ok and it didnt f up your back any further.

Mike

That's what he gets for not crossing at the sign.

chris L 02-26-2007 10:34 AM

I never hit a deer before but I ran over a turtle once . we were both going slow !

surfer247 02-26-2007 01:54 PM

My friend hit a deer, and they do cause alotta damage to the car.I read an article that said more people die by deers ,than any other animal, meaning they cause more deaths than by snakes, alligators and dogs etc. etc. so you got lucky the accident was'nt more serious.

Pete F. 02-26-2007 04:58 PM

Moose are worse

BW from AZ 02-26-2007 05:35 PM

My cuz took a deer in the side of his HD. his better half watched it come out of a corn field jump and hit under his leg knocking him into the other lane. upright and dazed he stopped to figure out "what happened". never saw it coming with the helmet on. not to much damage to the bike and the deer got away.

Pete F. 02-26-2007 06:17 PM

One deer season my brother and a friend were going to pick up his car at a rural garage. Being deer season, of course they both had to keep a lookout for deer in the meadows on their respective sides of the road. And what do you think they ran into...

JohnR 02-26-2007 06:31 PM

Joe Flip hit a deer pretty good 7-8 years ago doing 60 or 70 IIRC. His cooler rack took most of the impact but the deer still came up and hit the A pillar of his truck... Can be nasty...

Now in fall 2003 I had a deer hit my truck rim. N odamage to the truck but the cop still shot the deer.

Slingah 02-26-2007 07:16 PM

ouch....glad ur okay Habs....

cheferson 02-27-2007 06:09 AM

Deer suck. Got my s-10, 1 week later smashed a massive buck 300 yards from my apartment, $2000 damage. Almost 1 year to the day about 100 yards from my new house , hit another deer . It hit the same exact area on my truck that i had dropped 2k getting fixed the year before #@%& !!!!!! :scream2:

JohnR 02-27-2007 09:02 AM
