RON Z bait tail....ever fish it?
 

A guy I ran into one night hammered a couple large with this 10" 3 oz thing. Plan to add a few to the bag. Ever use it?

Sandy those things are really, really deadly. They fish great in moving water like rips and a lot of guys use themin the canal. Great jigging tool. Try dropping one of the 10" black ones into your favorite bass rip. Let me know what happens.:beat: :beat:

Those things are killer.

I've been using them this season and they're killer, they catch fish when nothing else will. I originally thought the 10" would be my favorite, but it turns out the 6" with the 3/8 oz. head has become my go to when I'm on my boat and schoolies are around, and the 8" with a 3/4 oz. head is great for throwing from shore. They've definitely become a "must have" in my plug bag.

i fish a secret spot up island on MV with those things.... the best lure iv ever used... do not twitch it whatsoever, just a slow retrieve

I used them quite a bit the last couple of years in the Canal. The black or silver ones are the nutz.

Great Product offering and I have a kit where I have used the Black for Bass and used the Pink w/smaller jig heads for Weakies and when I was in the Bahamas I swam the Silver and Pink with a 8" wire leader for Kings, Cuda and Cero Macks....I went through many of the soft bodies but the action and rewards were worth it. I have no problem spending money if I catch fish vs. wasting time with a plug or lure that is not producing.

I have experimented with their soft bodies as simple teasers and have taken 1/0 to 3/0 Octopus hooks and used their smaller plastics in the spring with no weights, light spinning rods for great spring schoolie Bass in the back bays.

I haven't used them much myself, but they sell at a ridiculous pace so people must be catching on them.

We carry all sizes, all colors, and all replacement tails. Unless someone goes unexpectedly nuts on a certain item, we usually have every last item in stock.

Rich for me too but it definitely isn't slowing anyone down. It's the most popular soft plastic outside if Sluggo, judging by sales.

No you have it wrong...5 bucks for the lead head with eel and 2 bucks for add'l 10" tails. It really is reasonable.

i'll defer to you for the moment Sandman, but I did call the store and somebody at the Edge told me that the onlineprice was per tail, and that they didn't carry the lead jigheads.

i'll make a trip there shortly and browse the wares.

We don't carry the jig heads (without the tail) yet but replacement 10" tails are $2. The 10 inch bait (head and tail) is $5. I need to add descriptions so it's a bit more clear.

I don't think there is a wrong way to use the Ronz. I jig and troll with it and still pick up fish. Easy on the wallet and durable too.

I know of a few footballs landed on them too!

I bought one the other day, but it does not seem to have a lot of action in the water. It seems a bit dead compared to other rubber offerings. Maybe it needs deep, fast water, but I don't enough faith in it to buy any more...

:smash: thats what makes the lure work.... iv tried giving it action like a sluggo, and will never get a tap.... but just a slow retrieve with absolutely no action catches fish

I've had the most luck fishing them like a jerk bait, just a little twitch and let it drop then repeat. Hits always come on the drop, that wedge shaped head gives the tail a nice little side-to-side wiggle as it drops, fish can't resist. I'll have to give the slow steady retrieve a try though seeing how it's working for some.

I was in a well known tackle shop when some of the staff came back from a bit of casting. What was on the end of their rods...these very Ronz. That was enough proof to me.:btu:

I love the RONZ in the ditch. There good on any place theres fish though. Can you buy spare jigheads anywhere?

You can use any jig head with them. I use a 1.5oz owner jig head with a 10'' black tail in the sand. In the canal I use a standard black 4oz head with them as well. My dog loves the way they smell too.

I do like the bevel shaped head on the sand but have a hard time with them in the canal.

We'll carry them soon, seems like people want them.

personally i prefer to match up the jig heads with the tail ... so that would be nice if you could get them in stock, Pete.

rijimmy, ive actually bit the head off a 9" sluggo and gave that a while. Didnt get any hits but it looked good on the retrieve.

While waiting for my Ronz's to arrive, I tried a sluggo (with the head cut back a 1/2 inch or so) with an 3/4 oz Owner jig head. It looks good too. I have only fished it once with no luck so far....but I have confidence in it. The ROnZ's are big and thick and impregnated with a stink. The heads fit perfectly too. The taper of the body is really nice.

I put my order in today.
Emailed Ron Z...he said Saltwater edge was the place to go.

Also waiting for my RonZ's to arrive. I put 9" black sluggo on a 1.5 oz. Point Jude wobble head. 7" on a 3/4 oz. head. Had fish on both set ups:kewl:

These are awesome. It caught when nothing else did last night. I too would like to see a slightly heavier hook. esp on the 3 oz mode (which casts like a sombitch) It looks like an owner hook and is of good quality and is sharp but it seems a tad too thin. Lost a large last night within sight, very impressive fish. The hook was slightly bent but not out of shape that I should have lost the fish, it turned and the head flew out of the water like a bullet. After a couple fish I had some trouble keeping the tail on the head. I used some zapagap on the collar and head and it seemed to hold for the rest of the night. It also tends to find weed and rocks but all in all...great lure, a must have... fish seem to attack this thing with vigor! The first hit I had drove the butt of the rod into my groin and ...well, lets say, caused some temporary discomfort

I can attest. I heard Sandman's high pitch yell from down the beach when he got that hit :laughs: It's true, there were only a few of us on the beach that night with an ugly East wind and the only two fish caught were on the Ronz. I bought some the next morning. Nice job Jim.
