Someone pronounced dead in waders/// 8PM??........ Surf/fisherman swept off sand bar?? God Bless and Guide him home. |
Oh boy. That is a shame.:(
|
just saw this on the news myself.scary thing is it can happen to anyone.
|
Deephole? Carpenters? Where on the news?
|
My wife said that they released a name of Paul Martin, from Longmeadow, Mass. That name rings a bell but I'm not sure if it is from fishing or something else
T&P to this anglers friends and family. |
Surfcaster Drowns
Just reported on the 11:00 news.
Surfcaster Paul Martin of Longmeadow, MA drowned at Deep Hole/Carpenters Bar this evening. A fellow surfcaster saw/heard him in distress and called for help. It took the coast guard/search and rescue approximately an hour and a half to recover the body located several feet off shore and around 100 yards from where he was last seen. Not the best spot to fish alone especially if you are unfamiliar with the area. Be careful out there! |
Tragedy
May God be with you Paul.
RIP |
keepin him in my prayers
|
I remember once wading out at Deep Hole and getting my feet all tangled in a bunch of fishing line under water that just about dunked me.
What a shame. My thoughts for his family. -spence |
RIP.. :(
|
RIP ><><>
|
Verrrry sad, and unfortunate!
My family's thoughts and prayers will go out to him and his. We can, ALL, never be too careful. got baptized a coupla times meself this year through mnissteps and rogue waveage. No Trophy is worth our lives and how that loss would effect our loved ones. I always try to have a viable exit stategy, and try not to position myself so precariously that if and when something freaky does happen me noggin doesn't get bashed in, or there isn't a safe place to swim to. Deep hole is no bargain under the wrong conditions, seems docile and can be somewhat hypnotic.......................... Rest in Peace, Paul, and God's Speed for you and His Peace and Comfort for your family. |
rip paul
|
:(
|
Oh no
|
Alone at Deep Hole, terrible, and from my neck of the woods, about 2 towns away. RIP Paul, may God bless you and your family.
|
Bummer . Condolences to his family.
|
Geeze. He was from my neck of the woods. RIP, and prayers to the family.
|
I was thinking about this, many say that hazard ave and beavertail are so dangerous, but I always feel safer at those places over places like deep hole- deep wading on bowling ball sized rocks with a sweeping current can be sketchy if you are not careful.

SO SAD TO SEE SOMEONE LOST.. THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS TO HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS
|
Condolences to his family ! R.I.P Paul

Thoughts and prayers sent. A real eye opener......:(
|
T&P to the man's family.
One reason why I try to get some swimming in during the off-season. |
surfcaster dies
just heard it on the news should wore his korkers and fish with a buddy safety first
|
Agreed, Nebe.............
Never felt that Hazard and The Tail are nearly as dangerous as say working the mouth of the Narrow and DH. What's illusive about DH and Carpenter's is that both spots present themselves as doable and more docile than they actually are. In other words, at first glance they appear to be "easy", whereas with names like Hazard and the very nature of the rocks at The Tail your guard and senses are already "UP", so to speak. It's the sneaky rip, rogue wave, hidden pocket/bowl while wading that often places us in harm's way. We can NEVER take too many precautions and it doesn't hurt to feesh with a partner, or in lieu of a partner in places like the aforementioned spots a PFD is a MUST when going solo. Just my thoughts................ |

Despite what has been said above, it is not really a dangerous place to fish. There is no real "drop off ", and the currents are not that strong where you can get "swept" away (excluding hurricane surf). While the footing is tricky, you can usually just get back up if you take a spill. I am guessing there was some physical issue (heart attack, etc) involved, unless he really pushed the wading envelope and tried to swim to some fish
|
very sad and an area near and dear to my heart. I fished those areas 1000 times and never thought it was dangerous. My thoughts and prayers to his family and another warning to all of us!
|
RIP, thoughts and prayers to family and friends.....
|
it was not that rough out last nite. was fishing the bar with no problems at all.
perhaps it was another factor involved in the poor man's demise. hate to lose another. thoughts do go out to his family. |

Fisherman Dies in Local Waters

We now know the man who was somehow swept out to sea has died. The 59 year old victim was in the water for about 45 minutes before rescue crews were able to find him. He was about 30 yards off shore. The call came into South Kingstown Police around 6:30 last night- Fisherman in distress off Deep Hole in Matunick. The search was intense, after 45 minutes, a man identified as Paul Martin of Longmeadow, Massachusetts was pulled into shore. He was rushed to South County Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Police tell us Martin was wearing waders in the water while fishing, and somehow got swept out. Jack Linton is a fisherman who says he didn't know the victim, but he knows how scary the water can be. He's been in a similar situation, when the tide takes you out, you feel helpless! Linton: "What happens is once the waders fill up your feet go up, then you get into trouble." We're told another fisherman in the area made the call to 911- but Martin, the victim was fishing alone. http://wpri.images.worldnow.com/imag.../pxl_trans.gif |
Regardless of circumstances, it is sad and my condolences to his loved ones.
Hey Jim, when I heard on the news last night without a name, I also had some anxious moments wondering if it was someone I know. Good to see Eddy post too, he was one I was worried about... |
RIP, thoughts and prayers to family and friends.
|
I just read another report and it said he "fell off a breakwater" ?
I wonder if he was climbing along the wall in the back or perhaps over by East Matunuck beach near the rockpile? |
Thoughts and prayers to his family. RIP
|
Very sad. My sincerest thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family.
Years ago, a small crew of us used to fly fish the mouth of the Merrimack in Newburyport. The bottom is very fluid sand. Orvis used to make these manually inflatable PFD that had pockets for 4 large fly boxes. It was as standard gear as my waders. I have to admit, we put ourselves in some pretty dangerous circumstances. Eventually we stopped wearing the PFDs. That was our mistake. I am by no means even suggesting that this man made any mistakes. Just sharing my own experience. Next time I don the waders, I shall revisit my korker studs and my PFD - especially on the breachways. A few surge waves into those rocks, even with others right there, could be VERY dangerous. Rest In Peace Paul Martin. - ATG |
thoughts and prayers.... RIP

Too sad. out for a good time and never comes home. :(
Every spot has something that could potentially get you. i think at deep hole its these roll around boulders that make it very hard to get firm footing. bumped by a wave , you have a hard time finding a spot to get you feet down firmly. Alos , if it was way out where the waves break at that extreme east bar at Deep Hole , you must be about 200 yards out sometimes. That's a long way back in if something does go wrong. |
