We Mourn the Passing of a Friend and Fishing Giant!

Sadly, Captain Don Cameron of Captain Don’s Bait and Tackle Passed on this evening around 7:30 at Rhode Island Hospital.

Captain Don was friend and mentor to many who fished Southern Rhode Island waters. This jovial man loved to talk fishing and helped many of us learn the area when we first came to fish southern RI. He enjoyed so much, giving his expert advice and helping people find and catch fish. I truly believe he received more joy seeing others catch fish. He will be dearly missed by old friends, customers and especially family. My deepest sympathy goes out to his wife Bonnie and his children. Please keep this Jovial Giant in your thoughts and prayers.

God Bless and Rest in Peace!

God rest your soul, my good friend. Capt. Don was a God fearing man, and his walk in life showed this. He will truly be missed, may the good Lord watch over his family in this time of sorrow.
Very, very sad news.

Raider Ronnie 03-15-2008 09:25 PM

Sad news.
I have been to his shop once with BasicPatrick.
I'm pretty sure I met him that night.
Ironic,
That same night I met John Habs for the 1st time.

T&P's to the family

I spoke with him recently and he was hopeful about the new treatment but was not worried of it didn't work.He knew he was going to a good place but was (typically) concerned for someone else...that I get the Habs lures for the raffle for the support of the child he adopted when John passed. He said "I want to make sure you get this raffle going because I won't be able to be there Joe." Looks like we'll be honoring 2 great guys from our sport at the RISAA show now. Man this has been a tough 12 months.:( RIP good Captain.

Ronnie is right...(did I just say that?) I have been in that shop with many from this board, many from Tri State, many from MSBA and each time was the same.

I read this post and now I feel sad.

Many many a night I came in the shop for a break from the cold and hot coffee or cup of venison game stew. Whether or not I was spending money I was always greeted with a smile and warm conversation.

Capt Don ran a shop thae way they are supposed to be run. A real loss of a good guy.

Rest in Peace with our prayers to guide your way

i never had the honor to meet the Good Captain,
it'll be nice to fish with him in the "sweet by and by".
From Paul's Letter to the Church at Philippi 1:21,
"For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain."

May God grant you His Peace in your passing.
May the Comfort of the Lord of Grace and Hope counsel
those who'll miss your kind and generous spirit in the days ahead.
May His Spirit continue to Bless and Guide your loved ones, friends, and neighbors during this time of loss.

I used to go into his shop when it was at Dunn's Corners in the 90's - great atmosphere. Nice guy - he had some great stories.

WadingWill 03-16-2008 10:58 AM

Captian Don was a great man, condolences to his family and friends. If you didn't even know him, you could call and have him leave eels outside for you to pick up a 2am, and pay him when you see him. He saw the good in people and the world. He will truly be missed. RIP Captian Don.
