Bass,big bass in shallow water 68-72 by the hundreds. Mr Striper put me onto these fish the last 2 days. They are very picky but we managed to get a few 25lbers on snakes.Throw the book out on bass not liking warm water:jester:. I'am a believer now! Got a tag yesterday.:bounce:

then there's the 90# to 100#'ers + that fall into that

you need to build some credibility up. A guy fishing for 2 years from the surf and getting several 30s and losing a 60 just doesnt sit right with me. If I remember correctly, you got a new camera this year? Lets see some pics of you with a small 25 or larger and I'll forever shut my mouth.

I have a spot that features heavy structure in shallow water (6' at low tide...) that ONLY works in early July- early Aug. when water temp there is at least 68- 72 degrees...

Have taken bass to 36 lbs. there in broad daylight on bunker (pogy), live & chunks... & lost much bigger ones to the structure! :doh:

Thus: I've long ago given up the notion that (big) Bass only want cool water! :hs:

A fish in hand is worth more then a whole school in the water reguardless of it's size....people put to much emphasis on size..it's all about getting out and enjoying ones self.

Cmon Jess, since when is a 25# not a nice bass? You know damn well you log a 25# you would be psyched. Cmon now.

all i have to say is this... last year my biggest was 24lb ... all season...

this year... I landed a 35lb and Sh*t my pants that I landed it in the surf... since that i have logged 13fish over 21lbs and each of them TO ME are big fish so that being said >>>>> I am fortunate that my season is my best (of only 3 years) and I would never tell someone a 25lber is only a decent fish...

with as many people on this board and only the few here and there posts of 25+ fish ... that in itself should say something.

have I seen on a sunny day in places with a lot of human activity in boats or splashing around in the water very big fish cruising through it all or smacking small baitfish right against a very shallow shore.

The more you learn expands the real book. The book in general is a nice guideline but is far away from the actual reality of what Striped Bass do and when they do it.

Hey, when I land a striper in a tidal river that's 30" (inches, not pounds)on my fly rod and 3" sand eel fly that screams line off my reel and takes 5 minutes to land I'm the happiest Mo-fo around!

I have never landed a 25lb striper in my life!! I hope that changes everytime I hit the surf.

Catfish on the other hand.... damn near half dozen to 25+

compared to a 2.5# schoolie, 25# is a big fish. 10x bigger.

compared to a 50, it is still a decent size fish, only 1/2 as big, but not 1/10.

I am very happy to catch 25# fish, and consider it a very good trip. I know most others do as well.....

I have lost more sixties than I can shake a stick at.........go figure. Then I wake up, and can't remember what beach I was on.:fishin:

Three thoughts:

1) Nice fish

2) If the real "book" is ever written, it will say things like, "sometimes bass like warm water, sometimes cold" and "sometimes they like shallow water, sometimes deep"

3) Regarding size of fish.....come on. Of the seven categories of large fish quoted in the earlier post, there are three of those categories where there is a distinct possibility that nobody on the entire East Coast will catch a fish that large in a given year. (70-80, 80-90, 90+) For the overwhelming majority of surfbound anglers a 30 lb+ fish is the fish of the season, if not a lifetime. If this forum becomes a place where a 25 lb fish (during the day in shallow water, no less) can't be acknowleged as a great catch and a "big" fish, I think posts are losing touch with reality. Or maybe we need a new forum for people who only target fish over 60 lbs. :rolleyes:

I think the poster in question has no sense of reality (fsihing) and believes that by diminishing others catches, he gains membership into an elite class of fisherman.

I, for one, would like to see some pics of your sizable fish, posted here, in a thread of your own.

For me, a 19# fish can be a big fish, when I have been fortunate to get it after catching many smaller, even sub-legal fish. It's all relative. We're not all destined to get a 50, 40, or even a 30# fish.

By big bass I meant fish in the 25+pound cat. We were watching them all last week cruise the flats in great numbers. 100's of fish in that range is big to me and you don't see that everyday:uhuh:. If someone out there was sick of catching 50's and 60's then they should go get "bored" :bs:doing something else.

(especially when I fall overboard, or hit the console with a plug and it blows up...)

Yep, always a good time on the goodskiff lollipop. Very relaxing no stress, no pressure atmosphere. Just casting plugs for fish to eat:fishin: and good times.
Warm water, cool water,dark water ,deep water, shallow water, it's all good.

well big and large are 2 different catagories according to the other thread and your reply. You said since when is a 25 lb bass big, I guess you need to change your definition you wrote yourself then. If you want to be taken seriously, you may want to be consistent with your posts. Some people are nit pickers ;)

rats to [U]big[U] bass = 28" to 30 lbs. I think 25 lbs falls in that area towards the upper end and a 25 pound bass is no slouch so if it can't be a rat, it must be big.

conclusion = 25 pound bass are big
