Project Angler

This is a 1977 Angler Boats 19 foooter I been hacking up.
I'm going to turn it into a center console.
I really liked the hull.. I was looking at a 20 Seacraft or this, I chose This. The freeboard is much higher.Plus it has a nice flare to the bow.
First order of buisness was gut the thing all the way to the fiberglass shell. transom- stringers- Everything.

Thought I would share some pics.
I made the transom full height I havent made up my mind if I'm going to notch the transom or put a bracket on it. Got all the stringers made the front sections are glued down. waiting for the transom I put on tonight to set up.

Nothing fancy just a little center console to get me out there..

Boy Freak you are driven! Looks like alot of work but I have no doubt she will look great when done and see her share of fish!!:tooth:

Raider Ronnie 10-28-2008 06:16 AM

That thing going to have a tower ?

Raven 10-28-2008 06:45 AM

freak

i have a similar project in mind....
almost the same boat....:spin: that i got for free...
(off Craig's list ) i liked the hull too
but it's slated for next year....now

my philosophy being: get a real cheap boat
and then a fairly decent engine "someday" ...

i don't even have a trailer yet

it'll be grand to "see" your work...
i need doors and heat in/on my garage...

eelskimmer 10-30-2008 08:28 AM

Freak,

Is that an orange Rogers lure I see in one of the pix.
I lost one just like that. Hold on to it for me would
you. PS you're an amazing dude to do all that frigging
work for a lousy fish or two. Take up pool it's safer.
BTW I fish with hookless lures now.

ProfessorM 10-30-2008 09:05 AM

Look forward to seeing it along the way.

macojoe 10-30-2008 09:44 AM

Looks great!!

I am a huge fan of a full transom! I had a bracket on my Wellcraft and I also have one on my Sea Ox.

No worry about back splash or water from the rips coming over the back! And you save a lot of room not needing a splash well.

Good Luck!

taJon 10-30-2008 01:19 PM

I like the brackets too, but on a budget I would have the notched transom and self bailing deck.

thefishingfreak 11-05-2008 11:44 PM

Stringers are in and glassed over.

Awesome as usual. Much more manageble than that Trojan horssse from two years ago... Call me sometime when you need a hand for a weekend day as it gets colder.

And check this thread out too, Mike;

nice!!!

think putting the engine on a bracket might make the bow point up too much? just tossing out a thought.

sokinwet 11-07-2008 04:13 PM

"I was looking at a 20 Seacraft or this, I chose This."
Well maybe I'm a "little" biased but all that great work on a Seacraft would have given you a primo ride!

thefishingfreak 11-08-2008 09:33 PM

I changed my mind It's going to be a pilothouse.
Since most of it's use will be when my buds wuss out because of the rain or bad weather, or when everyone elses boat is winterized.
I don't like bieng cold or getting wet :hee:

Got the top of the bow/ cabin all glassed over. I'll trim the extra mat off tomorrow and grind the edges smooth with the gunnel.
I'm kinda doing it in pieces because I have to pull it out of the shop during the day. So If it rains I don't want the wood to get wet, so I go as far as I can a step at a time then glass over for the night.

Hey Mike it looks great! Is that gonna clear the door on the way out?? Nice work!:btu:

thefishingfreak 11-11-2008 11:38 PM

It fits, Barely.
just enough room to put the masthead light on it.
I'll have about 2" clearance.

gone fishin 11-12-2008 12:13 AM

Mike - you are the master of glass! Nice work.

afterhours 11-12-2008 07:26 AM

What about after the radar dome goes on? LOL

Looks great Mike

quick decision 11-12-2008 02:39 PM

ff

I have a radar bracket that will look sweet on the top of the pilot house.

Raider Ronnie 11-12-2008 05:33 PM

Make sure you really beef up that roof for when I'll be up there spotting the bait.
Put a helm up there while you're at it !

thefishingfreak 11-12-2008 06:12 PM

Then it definitly won't fit in the shop.
how about a small step ladder instead..

taJon 11-13-2008 05:26 PM

looks good mike. will it be ready for the cod? I really like the hand holds. A real nice touch.

Flaptail 11-13-2008 07:20 PM

Man Mike, I'd give my left nut to have your talent. Awesome job bro!

thefishingfreak 11-13-2008 10:22 PM

It will probly take me all winter to finish. Ready for the spring cod and mackeral.
Mocking stuff up is easy. it's going back and fitting everything, cutting all the weird angles, and making sure everything is square thats a pain. plus up and down the ladder a hundred times a night sucks.
I don't really have a build plan, It's more like a vauge idea and just kinda build as I go.

BigFish 11-13-2008 10:26 PM

Thats how Picasso painted!:laugha:

that's called CREATIVE VISUALIZATION !!

a very adept skill that very few possess, Mike

so give yourself some credit... your doing great!

SAUERKRAUT 11-15-2008 02:53 AM

This is a 1977 Angler Boats 19 foooter I been hacking up.

You are a talented man. I am also just starting a boat project for the winter: I got ahold of a bare hull 19', brand new. Any suggestion who build me a center consule that I will draw up and design? Power: 115 e-tech for the weight savings. Who will sell me one, new, fork lift it into the back of my truck, in the box (the easiest motor sale any business will ever do), and not demand that they mount the engine on my boat for an extra $2,000?

You can get anyone to put a new etec in your truck, But unless you have a laptop with all the right programs, how do you think you are going to get it to work right??
And if you take and install yourself, you will have no warrantee!!

SAUERKRAUT 11-15-2008 10:28 AM

Thank you about something I did not consider. I did this once before eight years ago with a Honda 50, and it has run for eight years right out of the box. I'm starting this project thinking and shopping in earnest now that the fishing season is gone. So...hopefully I can find a hungry dealer who will sell a motor and be the first one two start and "program" the engine when I bring it back as a finsihed piece.

The reason for the project is that I am a boataholic, obsessive, and I tend to get depressed and bored during the winter. Unnecessary: Morse MT-3 controls, hydraulic steering, maybe a jackplate, definitely not a consule with "drink holders" or a boat with railings. My way (and maybe not your way), and definitely not necessarily the NMEA or boat dealer way.

Bonds, Sauerkraut

zacs 11-17-2008 11:27 AM

more pics from wknd?

thefishingfreak 11-18-2008 11:15 PM

nothing new. lots of sanding. I'm getting ready to glass the roof in and I made the mounts for the fuel tank, thats about all.

thefishingfreak 11-29-2008 09:54 PM

The roof is glassed over.
The gunnels are in place.
The bilge is about ready. I mounted the washdown pump, the bilge pump and float switch, the battery wireing and a few other odds and ends.
Tomorrow I'll put the deck down and tinker around some more. I'm wating on another 5 gallons of resin to show up from ups..

nightfighter 11-30-2008 09:42 AM

Lot of hours there, Mike. Always nice to reach the point where you are using solid color in your paint/resin.:claps:

Raider Ronnie 11-30-2008 09:44 AM

Install the (large) seacock and pump now for the livewell before you put the deck down.
Where we going to have the livewell anyway ???

thefishingfreak 11-30-2008 10:28 AM

the livewell and fishbox are going right in the middle of the deck, above the gas tank. It will drain thru the floor and out the transom. Thats what the big holes running back are. for the drain.
