From the boat it was either a sluggo or wire line jigging with a white smiling bill and a red trailer. From shore - maybe sluggo or a guppy pencil in parrot. Fairly boring response but they get the job done.

Depending on where I was fishing....my Canal Pencil was a champion in the Ditch! On the beaches the "Prey" Swimmer and 3 oz. Danny were bass magnets!:kewl:
|
Early season a Salty danny in Olive....late season one of my Canal pencils.
But either way there were not a lot of fish caught by Moi this season |
BeachMaster Danny was my best lure this year.

|
Bomber Long A Magnum's have always been very good to me. :)
|
Used the SS Darter more than ever before and it did the job at night. Fish always seemed to want it.
Daytime was good for the Afterhours Senior. |
Mostly pencil poppers and rubber.
|
A pencil, at daybreak, was the best producer for me this year.:kewl:
|
BigFish Larry's bigger pencil & canal pencils did the most numbers and produced the largest ....beat out the bomber this year
|
Cocahoe in april til mid may then rigged eels up until last night. Start day fishing now with the cocahoe again til the end.

rwilhelm, The cocahoe is THE best I've ever used for schoolies. I hear it works on bigger fish and that the queen size is good also. The 3" pearl is something else though! It is the only thing I use in the spring.

qnty : blurple a-salt
qlty: black / gold bigwater jointed diver |
Yellow SS darter had most of my keepers.

K-E-V-I-N- That wild color on the Tattoo - Someone gave me a small surface swimmer in that color and I laughed at it as I put it in my bag. About two weeks later I was fishing and catching pretty good when I tried to find something in my bag that they wouldn"T HIT. Well I put on this tattoo danny with the wild color combo and continued to hawk the fish until the hooks were mangled. I went home , changed the hooks and have been catching fish on it all season. One night I had a 28 pounder on it right at dark before switching to eels.

For me:
Honestly it was my slowest year in almost two decades. But spooks and canal pencils did the trick mostly for me this year. But the lures that fared the best for me this season were spooks - and two particulars ones at that, these always seemed to raise the fish best for me: The AH fat boy slider in yellow and green - biggest fish of the season and some other decent ones caught ... if you don't have the fat boy slider from AH and enjoy spooks, get them, they work great. Also, a spook made buy a guy in my club ... it's called the Skunky Joe ... the color that provided for me most consistenly whether I was on Cutty, the North Shore, Rhody or Fisher's Island was yellow and chartreuse green. If any of you get to the Plum Island Surfcasters fund raiser this year, look for the Skunky Joe plugs on the raffle table - he makes a few for the club's fundraiser and they work really well ... fished really responded well to it for me this season. |
lure- Blurple BM danny
most productive- EELS |
Day: Surface cruisers
Night: Eelskinned Atom Junior or Tattoo 2oz swimmer |
The same old reliable lure as in the past 5 years:
Black or "eel colored" 9" Slug-go on a 1oz. jig. Although this year was interrupted by a nagging knee problem, I was able (and am still able) to finish out the season. On a side note, I tried a different line this year. It's a relatively inexpensive braid that I picked up at a Foxborough sporting goods store (;) called P-Line. It's held up fantastically, and hasn't failed me yet. After trying (and regretting it) Spiderwire, as well as Fireline, I graduated to PowerPro, but it can be a little cost prohibitive when spooling multiple reels. The P-Line braid has the best of both worlds: reliable, durable braid that doesn't breakdown and unwind like the forementioned ones, and is affordable. I'm sure there are quite a few brands that are equal, if not better in quality, but for the type of fishing I'm engaged in, it has been a roaring success. |
One of my own,a red head danny. In terms of both quality and quantity.
|
yellow/white needle fish on the Cape, and nylon hair bucktails on LI
