I hope everyone is safe !!
VB |
It must be howling out there. I've been there for a couple of these with my wife and kids. Hopefully, you are not directly on the water.

That would be a tree
And the chit is still falling, |
They just turned me around in the parking lot and sent me home. No power. I could hear trees snapping as I talked to the boss....
|
We just lost power in RI at our house
|
tons of ice up at my office (salem, nh) and no power. i'm actually working on my laptop at the mall because there's power and wifi. hopefully there will be power either at the office or at home by the time my battery dies. doubt it though, since that's only about 20 minutes away. maybe bang out some xmas shopping since i have the mall pretty much too myself - except for the old people walking.
|
Looked like a pretty big storm surge with high tide this morning as well...about as big as I've seen it.

There will be a set-down after the storm (most likely) once the Low passes and the NW comes in. Go scout spots at low-tide Sat afternoon, especially up inside the bay... should be able to see some structure if the swells aren't too big to obscure it... |
A real soaker also.Over 3.5"s of rain her in NJ..

That's my yardstick science boy :humpty: -spence |
I was agreeing with you.
Spring tide and 2ft of storm surge looks impressive compared to 'normal' conditions |
I came up to Marlboro this AM
60 F in Mansfield, 55 mph gust this am 30 F at the office. ICE starts at Rte 9 everything south is just soaked |
I spent the better part of 45 minutes picking up big branches in my yard and driveway this morning. Then, I had to towel up a little bit of water in the corner of my basement. As long as we have power I'll be fine because the french drains and sump pump will keep things mostly dry.
When I got to work we had about 2 inches of water in the basement, which includes a conference room, 2 offices and cubicles. Fortunately, I'm upstairs where it's dry. |
let's see..........
12 hours without power or heat....
i'm having a "Dundee" honey brown beer and for what its worth....it's almost as good as Sam Adam's October fest :uhuh::cheers: we've had no running water here ... for awhile thankfully the water leaking into the living room can be re-used in the toilet tank to flush it... although it's like dark tea.... but no biggy... just got a load of wood delivered an hour ago that will save our friggan pipes from freezing... :point: and us too! even Star the wonder dog is looking at me with those WTF expressions lol the other day... the kitchen sink faucet handle was frozen stiff... and a pot in the kitchen sink was all full of ice... if you cannot see your breath while walking around inside the house....things are just peachy. :btu: been hearing the big "kerack!" of tree's snappin and the wooosh of them falling "all day" as the misty rain adds to the chandelier effect of the ice covered trees. come monday, it'll be 13` degrees again....but with wood available...NOW...we'll shall endure. |
Raven, you are living the life Dude! Where the heck are you?
|
BillM
47 miles Northwest of you at 600 feet above sea level.
of course that's as the Raven flies....:tooth: i have to go load another wood stove down stairs it's way to small... though... the door to it is about as big as a 15 inch monitor screen or smaller. |
I have a 'hang over' from all that rain and wind. My house has cathedral cielings and as a result, I couldnt sleep at all.. ugg.
|
you should play rain and wind tapes then Eben
and desensitize yourself.... or have the wife knock you out before bed time lol :kewl: |
just alittle liquid sunshine on the cape,,just enough to dampin the ground.Passed wind harder then what it was doing outside.
|
the sun's shinning now melting all that ice....phew
|
As bad as this storm was, it's still nothing like the one back in '99.
When you loose power for weeks because the high tension lines snapped like cheap mono, and thousands of old growth trees get snapped from the wind and ice, you know you're in for trouble. We got more water than ice, but one disaster is as bad as the next. Hopefully this won't ruin anyones' Christmas. |
The 99 storm in Quebec and Northern New England was unreal
|
yeah we were without power for 10 days

Our power came back on around 5PM
|
I had to cut 3 trees up this morning at 4 AM, just to get to work. No power at the plant in worcester, sent the 70 something people home at 830, 835 power comes back on. Gotta work saturday now. Everything was covered with ice on the pike between worcester and sturbridge. Looked beautiful. Just got power back at 530, lost it sometime before 330 this am. Lots of firewood to be had out there right now.

If you want, I can stop by and we can have a riveting discussion of tidal datums; I can use lots of fun acronyms; NAVD88, NGVD29, MSL, MLLW, MHHW, we can even put it in context with the tidal data we collected in the river a year or so ago if you like. I can bring graphs and data and you can go nuts analyzing it. I didn't want to over whelm the corn fed farm boy, and I'm too lazy to type long answers... For the record, Nebe is quickly reducing the number of invites out in the boat with comments like that  Spence is already banned for being a p-ssy when the lightning is 20miles south :D and for tangling up goosefish while we are fluking :D |
Rockhound, I heard the great tidal expert Nebe wasn't too good at catching from a boat anyways. Esp. when it was cold.
Sounds to me like someone Googled tidal info to get your dander up |

I think it's alright, tautog01 - it appears Nebe only had him lip-hooked...easy release...:hihi: |
BTW, I was out running errands yesterday and noticed seaweed, sand and flotsam on the road between Johnny's and Flo's - the storm surge, moon high and swell must have pushed right thru Johnny's lot -
Didn't look like it got high enough to float that derelict lobster boat in front of Flo's or ruin any of the chowda...but it's probably the closest the clamcakes have gotten to clams in a while...:laughs: |
:buds:
|
Lost my chimney cap and had nasty black water run down into my basement and furnace.Great.
What a %$%$%$%$ing year.Quite possibly one of the worst ever. |
this storm ain't over for us....
just finished our 2nd blackout the car door locks won't open they are frozen stiff  |

Ocean Drive saw some serious action as well; judging by the carnage Green Bridge might have been 4 wheel drive only at high tide. Many new holes in the sea walls too. A few more big storms and parts of the road may be in jeopardy out near Brenton. |
