Just found a juicy deer tick lodged in my arm pit. Big red spot around where it bit me...no bullseye but red and very irritated.

Crap...I did not need this :(

Nebe 03-29-2009 10:10 PM

I'm pretty good with most things, but ticks creep the hell out of me.

go in two weeks if it makes a bullseye , otherwise they'll just make you wait two weeks.

It's crap like that. The things are almost impervious to harm. Burn them or pound the hell out of them with a rock - other than that, there's almost nothing that kills them.

Swimmer 03-30-2009 11:14 AM

I flush them. Thats a special kind of punishment. gurgle gurgle oh no............ah che wow wa, theese place steeks.

If the tick attached, some irritation at the spot after you remove it is normal. With both dog ticks and deer ticks.

Don't rely on the bulls-eye. It doesn't occur in a good number of cases where Lyme disease has been transmitted.

There's no reason a doctor can't start you on antibiotics right now--don't wait. They can also have the tick sent to a lab for it to be analyzed.

mekcotuit 03-30-2009 01:13 PM

Nebe - get that checked out ASAP

Agreed. Due to the time it takes for Lyme to have outward signs of infection, the disease is already well on its way to possible nervous system damage.

Many doctors (mine included) immediately prescribe an antibiotic as a prophylactic after a tick bite. Just make sure you take every last pill as directed even if you don't show signs of sickness. Not finishing the bottle is asking for trouble.

RIJIMMY 03-30-2009 02:07 PM

seriously Neb get it checked out, didnt you have lyme disease a few years ago?
I've pulled out tons of ticks and never had any redness.

whiplash 03-30-2009 02:26 PM

I've had LD twice with NO bullseye. My sons bullseye was only visible when he came out of the cold water after swimming. Do not wait get the blood test andstart on the Doxicylin ASAP. I had to get sick as a dog before my MD beleived me and it then took 6 weeks before I felt better. Do not F around. Not for nothing but it looks like you didn't get the whole tick.

Nebe 03-30-2009 02:45 PM

Jim, I did have Lyme a few years ago. My knees felt like I aged 30 years in a month. I never tested possitive but after antibiotics I felt great.

Going to the dr tomorrow am :)

Nasty rash starting to form around the bite area. Screaming head ache. Ugh. Off to see my Dr. :(

spence 03-31-2009 08:37 AM

Good idea...

You can also get a skin infection (celulitis) that will give a bullseye that keeps growing. They'd probably prescribe the same round of anti-biotics as standard for lyme though.

RIROCKHOUND 03-31-2009 08:39 AM

lovely.

good luck

BOSOX 03-31-2009 08:16 PM

If I recall correctly, the tick transmits the disease when it purges blood as it backs out. If you get the tick while it's still attached your chances of contracting the disease are reduced. Still a good idea to get checked out especially if you get some flu like symptoms. Good luck at the Doc's, x2 on the finishing the perscription advice.

Nebe 03-31-2009 08:44 PM

well.. Doc wasnt to concerned with what she saw. 'yep thats a nasty tick bite'.. 'here is some doxycyclene.. take it for 10 days twice a day and you will be fine'

in and out in 12 minutes..:point:

HOW YA FEELIN ? now :read:

cheferson 04-19-2009 06:50 PM

The past couple days of warm weather really got the ticks going. Dog took off into the woods. I came out, pants looked like i dropped a can of pepper on them . I gave up counting after 60 deer ticks and 9 dog ticks. The dog has really thick hair which is a pain. ALready pulled 20+ off him and still finding them. At least he got a lyme vaccination!

Crafty Angler 04-20-2009 07:47 AM

Did the shore clean-up with the Newport club on Saturday, sat down for a smoke break and the guy next to me noticed a tick crawling on my t-shirt....

Gaaaaaa - I hate ticks, they give me the friggin' creeps....

Laid down in some tall grass when I was 13 or 14 on the Cliff Walk and that night when I went to bathe found probably 2 dozen on me...

Jeeeesuzz...I'm itching all over just thinking about it
