New purchases for the new season??

Wondering what you all consider "must haves" for this upcoming season?

I'm thinking one more reel/rod for a boat outfit but I'm not sure about going wire or not.

I'm interested in those new LED Petzels - might pick up one of those.

Some more plugs made by the members here - I wanto ta catch some fish on your hard work :hihi:

Definiately a better EEL maintainence system

... and all of this is up in the air if I get a boat too :D :D :D

How about you all. What is a must have this year or at least a want?

Goose nice boat ! I think Ive ridin in that before .

I dont have any idea what I want or need . I still have to get thru trout season first .

I would like a new 9' for the ditch and/or a 1087 for the beach .
Maybe some new lures and more time off around the new moon .

RickBomba 01-30-2003 02:18 PM

Fishfinder for boat...maybe a humminbird legend 3000 deep; hey, do any of you guys have one or know anybody who does?
Looking for a finder with bottom lock, but I don't want to shell out $800 for a Furuno.
After that I'm done; I almost had a heart attack when I combined all my credit cards last month. New house very expensive. Billy, start saving now!
Later,
Rick

Canal bike. I hate the concept - riding/fishing. But,........ I'm trying to figure out a guerillaesque design. Rods stuck in pipes waving around 10+' in the air hangin' off the back makes me cringe. Pedaling around with hip boots on also gives me the heebie jeebies. Yuck!

Boat. Another thing I really don't want. But,..... August was one long, long month last year.

TheSpecialist 01-30-2003 03:38 PM

Nautil 7500 for 1209
Nautil 6500 or Vs for 1088
Abu 7000 BG for 121 3m

I am sure I will see more things at some point and want them.....:D

Got Stripers 01-30-2003 04:04 PM

Breathables
More free time
More time to fish
More quality time to fish
More time to fish with friends

Winning loto would help on the above, back to the grindstone.

Saltheart 01-30-2003 04:57 PM

Specialist , if you are getting a BG 7000 for the 121 3M , why wouldn't you use it on the 1209?

I don't think I need anything this year. Maybe some really light waders or hip boots. My Girlfriend owes me a pair of Orvis waders from my birthday last year. I'm not sure if i want full waders or just some hippers for the Ditch. I generally wait till the tide gets down but there are some great spots where if you have hippers , you can get lower down the bank earlier which really helps when landing a big one.

TheSpecialist 01-30-2003 05:05 PM

I already have 1 7000BG for the 1209 that Mike made me last year. I can't get the distance I need with it yet. Thats why the new one is spinning. Plus if my brother ever goes with me he canuse the spinner, and I can use the conventional.

lennyr 01-30-2003 05:08 PM

Some teasers, (never tried them) big spool of fireline, some new poppers and maybe a needle fish or 2.... I ain't got much but love what I have!

hooked 01-30-2003 05:50 PM

Must haves...
A whole bunch of 5 1/2" split tails.
A new schoolie rod and reel.
Another spool or 2 of braid.
A fishfinder for my kayak.
A PFD, Drytop and other accessories.
A kayak (already on order)

Like to have...
Twice as much time out as last season
Some fishing partners that don't mind getting 3 hours of sleep, then fishing 'til dawn before going to work.
An eel trap.

Mike P 01-30-2003 09:57 PM

I'll probably lose my standing among the surviving Lepers for this, but I just bought a 10 wt fly outfit.

A pair of cannon electronic downriggers with the bottom tracking feature (ouch...850 for each rigger + 1100 for the contoller + 400 for misc outrigger junk) thats a lot of gas and bait!

4 nice live custom bait boat rods (matched w/ penn internationals)

4 nice custom bottom fishing rods for fluking to tog.

OH YEAH! and a S-B.com T-shirt!!!

Saltheart 01-31-2003 09:52 AM

Br careful Mike. No limp wrists for fly casting! :)

Canalratt1 01-31-2003 04:00 PM

Gasp! Mike say its not so!

Scotch Bonnet 01-31-2003 05:23 PM

I just bought a new Isuzu Trooper for beach/towing duty. Still need a new GPS, Shimano Baitrunner, wire line outfit and a part time job to pay for all this crap. Does it ever END?

Bill L 01-31-2003 08:13 PM

I went to town last fall -- new waders, boots, Loomis rod, etc.

NEED a new fluke rod & reel
Maybe spool my 320GTi with some lead core to troll some tubes off the beaches and bars
Fireline

(Oh yeah, then bottom paint, new battery, fix the electrical glitch, wax, )

Van 01-31-2003 08:39 PM

Hydraulic steering for my
"Fishing machine"

That way I can let go of the wheel for a minute while trolling.

And I won't get arm cramps fighting 175 HP of fuel injected muscle to keep the boat going straight....

Can't wait for April.:smash:

Sandman-----NICE BOAT !!!!!!!!!!!

ragfly 02-01-2003 09:37 AM

boy its already looking good for spring lemme tell ya!!!

Notaro 02-03-2003 02:11 AM

Damn, Goose, that was a nice boat!

Hey guys, I was considering about buying some tackles for surf fishing like wader outfits, carts, and etc. I'm considering about buying me a 12 feet rod that can hold a 15-40 lbs for Cape Cod Canal and other places. And I'm thinking about buying a new convential gear for the codfishing partyboat in plum island. And plus some more lures. Bicycle rigging things for my parents' car and for myself.

Another thing, I must lose more weight so I can look sexy while angling in front of the beach yuppie gals. And I'm not talking about your daughters...:D :laughs: :smash: Don't worry about it, men.

JohnR 02-03-2003 07:02 AM

Ragfly - thanks for the info - I'm gettin' that petzel.

Notaro - don't seriously consider a 12 ' rod. Too big & you don't need it. 9' & 10' is sufficient for 90% of your needs and the 12 would be a bear to cast over & over...

Mr. Sandman 02-03-2003 08:59 AM

Notaro...I have a 13.5', surf rod ( 2-pc that) that has been hanging in my garage for about 20 years that looks nearly new. I will sell it to you for the cost of the 12' rod...you'll be getting 1.5' for free! Heck I will even toss in a killer diawa surf reel. You want big...this is big. When you walk down the beach it will turn heads...Ask any girl....size matters. Its casts a 5 oz plug a mile but will rip off your fingertip if its cold out.

Honeslty, go for with a 9.5' graphite...you're muscles will thank me and it casts far-enough.

Notaro 02-03-2003 09:59 AM

How much, Mr.Sandman? And what is ur real name?I dont wanna cal people by their nickname.
