Stiffy,

The canal is a real big place...I mean, there's 12 plus miles of shoreline...could you be more specific (pole #'s, tides, etc.) so I'm not chasing my tail too much?

Adam_777 10-08-2009 06:24 PM

I drove by this am and it was flat calm not a bird in sight or bait anywhere.:confused:Are you in the Panama Canal ?:rotf2:

Cool Beans 10-08-2009 06:43 PM

Fished the Panama Canal and Gatun Lake for peacock bass a few years ago. Very fun! And yes, the bass are running now in the Panama canal :grins:

5/0 10-08-2009 06:45 PM

please spray an X

jettyjockey18 10-09-2009 08:42 AM

the Ditch was packed this AM mid canal...I had a guy 40+ yards to my left, and barely 40 yards to my right...hardly enough room to cast...:smash:

few fish on top this morning, took a couple of shorts on a pencil, had a few more bumps, didn't see much catching...

Raven 10-09-2009 09:08 AM

reminds me of the song

There's something happening here

What it is ain't exactly clear

There's a man with a Rod over there

Telling me I got to beware

I think it's time we stop fishermen happening-here-l
what's that sound

Everybody look what's going down

There's battle lines being drawn

Nobody's right if everybody's wrong

Young people loosing their minds

Getting so much resistance from behind

I think it's time we stop, hey, what's that sound

Everybody look what's going down

What a field-day for the heat

A thousand people on the Canal

Singing about seals and carrying signs

Mostly say, hooray for our side

It's time we stop, hey, what's that sound

Everybody look what's going down

city hall strikes deep

Into your life they will sneak
It starts when you're always afraid

You step out of line, the man comes and takes you away

We better stop, hey, what's that sound

Everybody look what's going down

Stop, hey, what's that sound

Everybody look what's going down

Stop, now, what's that sound

Everybody look what's going down

Stop,fishermen what's that sound

Everybody look what's going down

Good for you. That must have been fun and good to hear. I guess I will stop by on my way home from work next week and do some skin plugging in the middle of the nite. Thanks I needed the motivation.

piemma 10-09-2009 10:04 AM

Paul:
No giants but better fish than I have been seeing and, yes, it was the middle of the night. Look at the tides for last night and you will get a good idea of the time the fish started showing.

ProfessorM 10-09-2009 10:07 AM

Thanks I will. I luv to catch fish on swimming plugs and they don't have to be big, I don't discriminate.

Good move. I fished all of my go to eel spots between 1am and 5am. Not even a touch. You might find this disturbing, but at the end of the night I said to myself "%$%$%$%$ these things" and dumped 2 dozen live eels back into the canal, tied on a shad, and hooked up one my first cast. There's hope for me yet. Probably stayed too loyal too long with the eels as I knew there were plenty of fish to be had by other means.

I hope Numbskull reads this post and gives me heaping accolades:angel:

Hey, Mike P:
1. This isn't my post. You cannot unring the bell. All I did was confirm what Stiff Tip said.
2. You can come to SoCo anytime and I'll show you all my "secret" spots.
3. I didn't realize that by putting up a post with :uhuh: constituted "spot burning".

BigFish 10-09-2009 11:37 AM

Yeah Paul....shame on you! The canal used to be a hidden gem tucked away in a place nobody ever knew about.....till Stiffy came along!:devil2: Bad Stiffy......bad!!!:smash:

First you chummed with eels then you used RUBBER!!!!!!!!!!
Oh dear, this is more serious than I had feared.

RIJIMMY 10-09-2009 11:41 AM

not sure why anyone is suprised, historically there has always the same level of chatter @ canal out here.

It also gets talked up on line so people believe its much better than it really is. What's going on right now is a mere fraction of what we caught the last three falls in terms of size and quantity. Seems folks are very hungry to catch this year given the slower than normal summer we had. Most of what's being caught is under 30".

Larry, I am, indeed ashamed of my conduct. Imagine confirming someone elses post and agreeing to boot.
I may be forced to resign from S-B.com after 6 wonderfully exciting years.:rotf2:

The hell with the bass. Backbeach just stocked the place with nice eels.

Its part of my secret master plan....dump a few free eels into the drink each morning and before long they(fish)will forget all about the plethora of small finfish present and key back in on my eels. Time is in short supply, but I think I can pull it off...stay tuned...

Any of these eels from the batch your son let loose in the woods?

Can you imagine that life story the next time all the eels get together...

-caught in a trap
-sold into slavery
-imprisoned
-freed during a jailbreak
-recaptured
-re-imprisoned
-transported
-set to be crucified and sacrificed
-miraculous 11th hour pardon

stiff tip 10-09-2009 04:13 PM

nummie

those 2 fish were so big that it caused a 5 car pile up on the mid cape road . skip keeps way too many bass just give it away to the anyone. keep the small ones, a true fisherman would let them big girls go to reproduce. or does that make too much sense

riverrat55 10-09-2009 04:37 PM

All you people who don't like crowds can STAY HOME!!!
That way, I can have the CANAL to myself!!!
LOL's!!!!!!!!!!
