getting one of my largest fish ever on a topwater spook in daylight...
|
Feeling the power of and landing my first tuna after obsessing about it and logging dozens of hours on the water trying. Not huge, about 58", but quite amazing.
Landed it last Tuesday on what will probably be my last trip on the water this season. |
My first full season on the yak.
Logged a boatload of hours day and night on that thing, fresh and salt. (Funny how traveling over a mile doesn't feel like it when you are having fun!) Learning to how to use rubber frogs (day and night) with consistant success. Getting out ON the water with minimal investment and loving it. Bittersweet anticipation of the upcoming ice fishing season. Looking forward to 2010! |

Watching my son land his first tuna this season, 63", and for me catching more (different) species of fish than ever before in a season. Not done yet, got to get a tog (legal size) and maybe another tuna if these wind/waves ever die down on SWC. |
I got a sea robin on a plug. :uhuh:
|
Son keeping, cleaning, gutting and eating a trout. Cutty, Mv and Albies, canal with wife. What is going on right now. Soon to be Steel.

Totally forgot: working this board and meeting several new fishing buddies. Some like boats, some don't. BTW: I've applied to join MSBA and hope to meet others in 2010. |
Its not over for me yet.
|
Didn't fall down all season .. I'm overdue .. :err:
|
only hooked myself twice.
once through the nose, |
Season ain't over, but high lite was taking my 2yr old twin grandsons
fishing for the first time. One at a time of course. :hihi: Worst was yesterday when i aired down to #12 and got stuck turning in real soft sand. Then realized i hadn't put it in 4X4. :smash: |
The labor day weekend Albie feeds were the best of the season. Continued through until the beginning of October but just not quite as good as on labor day weekend. Had some silly easy days in spring on lt/fly, to many 28-36" fish to count.
|
Season highlight this year was catching my personal best 41# 51in on the forth of july. Fireworks were blastin all over the bay. Won't forget that night.
|
1.Watching my Son pull in his PB at the Canal.
2.Slingah for hooking me up with a killer door. 3. Wait for the season to be over to post #3 |
memorial day massacre :)

As Always, The Cutty trip was a highlight.
Having the 1st North Shore S-B Leg and meeting some different guys from the board. The 1st Annual Bomba Ice Fishing tourney was a blast also. Watching my daughter catch a 4+ lb. largemouth on her own was awesome. July LMB fishing was amazing this year....banged 3 over 5lbs and a 1/2 dozen 4lb'ers....all within 5 minutes of the house. Caught a couple of Nice Carp earlier in the year. Gonna target these fish more often next season...a lot of fun on freshwater tackle and on a personal note......since I didn't get out fishing the salt as much as I wanted, I usd the time to get in shape....dropped 60 lbs. and am sitting at a comfortable 192 these days.....lightest I've been since I was 19. Looking to get down to 185 and hitting the gym this winter |

Fishing with my oldest son in the canal this Spring. We must have released close to 30 fish between 20-30 pounds on Memorial Day
Caught a 180# tuna on my VS 275 which was a hurting highlight. Managed to put up a 40 for an ASA tournament in Ct. this summer to put us in the $$$. Another 40 class fish from shore this year which helped Team Striper win the Cup again. Lots of shooting stars, breaking fish and awesome sunrises to enhance the senses as a bonus to what is already quality time. Lots of laughs with good friends trying to figure out where it all went wrong this season. What I would give for another warm morning with breaking tides at the canal to ride around and BS with some of the fine members of the fishing community.Oh well....next year. |
1)Fished Cutty twice, Block, The Cape, and RI many, many times this year.
2)Caught a bunch of decent fish. (no monsters but I had fun) 3)Had some fun with the whole wetsuit thing 4)Learned new spots close to home and caught some good fish in them. |

had a blast getting out on my buddys boat Albie fishing with good friends...
then there was this... |
My highlight fish wise was catching 20lb+ bass on almost every other cast on a pencil popper on Memorial day. I wasn't even planning on fishing, but my wife told me to make a few casts before we packed up the car to head home.
Also, got my son out a bunch of times fishing freshwater and he loves it. Everytime he reels in a fish he gets excited like it's the first time. Another highlight that wasn't so much about the catching, but was fun was getting a chance to fish with RIJimmy and Spence this season. |
Here are mine...
1) Largest bass to date - 39 lbs. - and released.
2) first ever BFT - barely legal, but still cool 3) Tagged and released more stripers than last year, about 35 T & Rs 4) Had my second recaptured T & R bass in as many years, this time it was caught at the North Rip at BI on an eel by my early July, and recaptured two months later on the fly at Martha's Vineyard. Cool stuff. 5) First (and only) Atlantic Bonito caught on a rebel-like plug near Narrow River early October. 6) Took my eight year old daughter last month down to Pt. Judith on the boat and chased snapper blues around for a few hours on a beautiful afternoon. Our first "real" fishing trip where she enjoyed it the whole time. It just doesn't get any better than that. Dave |
Night fishing in June from my hobie yak both in Joppa and barnstable harbor.

Best memory this year was one morning in May, caught 10 good fish before sunrise. When the sun came up and boats started crowding me, I moved and found ALOT of pogies in a bait ball against the shore. Pulled trebles off all my plugs and livelined em, 3 hrs later the blitz stopped when the pogies left. 20 more fish that morning, all were over 20lbs, and most were around 30. All the boat dudes were drooling, they couldnt get to them. I was so tired I let a kid and his Dad that were watching catch a couple with my gear while I rested. Seeing them having fun was almost as good as catching all those fish. And all those fish were CnR. That and a personal best of 35lbs in fall.
|
I caught my largest bluefin to date (64") back in June with all 3 of my sons on board, that was a rush.
That same day we were over a school of bass and blues in about 60' of water and we had the kids vertical jigging over them for almost an hour, biggest fish was 35", and I can still see the look on their faces as they were hooking up and trying to battle these fish to the top on light setups. That was my biggest highlight of the season and all I did was unhook fish!! |
Being able to turn on my friends George and Alan to some bigger fish in my usual haunts rather than they dragging my ass around to thier big fish spots for the last 15 plus years.
I still owe them big time but the account is nearer to getting out of the red. |
Anticipating striper fishing for months...then when I finally get there, on my second cast with a fly into the surf hooking and landing a small, but very memorable 28" bass. I caught many more, a bunch bigger, but that was just great. The next morning I got my 16 yr old son into a similar fish on a fly...I'm guessing that was his highlight....and another one of mine.
|
The night before the first big north-east blow 3 weeks ago.....1-3am....25-35 class smashing eels on the first wave on what seemed like every other cast for over 2 hours. Unreal.
|
1) Not getting skunked once this year,
2) Fishing with my Son alot this year 3) Finding Pogies pushed up against the beach and big fish slamming them, Teaching my son how to snag and drop then watching his reel scream 4) 4 hour Blitz at Race Point in Smokies boat all 18 to 35 pound fish on Salty's plugs he was going to throw away. 5)up coming Trip Block Island with Tagger and DZ Next week Many more but I have to pack |
Last day in September. Completely alone, gusting SW 25-30 in the ditch for the last few hours of the West. Completely dead for 3 hours and then it was like someone flipped a switch. Cast eel count to five and set up on a 20-30lb fish. 9 eels 9 casts 9 quality fish. Wouldn't touch anything else.:buds:
