Deadliest Catch

Its back tonight and on at 9 who's watching?

Raven 04-13-2010 06:42 AM

I'm IN

StriperSwiperRI 04-13-2010 07:21 AM

Sorry, I work 3rd shift....I have to settle for the reruns later in the year.

BobT 04-13-2010 07:38 AM

:btu: I'm addicted to that show. Will be interesting now that Phil is gone. :crying:

ProfessorM 04-13-2010 07:55 AM

since watching it from first episode my attention has waned. Watching pots of crab be hoisted up and sleep deprived miserable sobs argue with each other has gotten boring in my book. I'll pass.

MarshCappa 04-13-2010 08:36 AM

Yea, I'm the same as the Professor on this one. It by no means takes away from my deep respect for what those guys do though. They lay it on the line like no other profession. The show has lost my attention span but i check in from time to time.

Mr. Sandman 04-13-2010 08:50 AM

I agree it's old. I catch an episode every now and again but it is the same thing...

Actually I saw a best of (the worst) deadliest catch which was mainly about nightmare rescues at sea and that was more interesting. Jezzzz perhaps I am a little twisted...watching guys die at sea for entertainment.

Finlander 04-13-2010 11:19 AM

I'll be watching, going to be sad to see Capt. Phil go later in the season!

MikeToole 04-13-2010 11:42 AM

Program is getting old and stale. Players are thinking their actors now.

Now watching Dumbest Criminals/Stunts. No shortage of idiots out there.

FishermanTim 04-13-2010 12:54 PM

Unfortunately the glut of celeb-reality shows has tainted what could have been a number of untapped markets.
Now you have self-deluted characters that are more attuned to the cameras than their crews.
You have shows like "Ice Road Truckers", "Ax Men", "Swamp Loggers" and a few others that the "captains" or "foremen" are definitely playing up to the cameras more than they should.

If it hasn't already happened, it won't be long before the History Channel and Discovery Channel become just another TLC.
(It's no longer called/considered "The Learning Channel" since there is nothing educational on it any longer.)

The premise of "Deadliest Catch" was unique and bold in the beginning, but the novelty has worn off, and some viewers only check in when someone gets hurt or dies.
It's the car-crash mentality: slow down to see what happened, but don't stop. Channel surf around, but only stop and watch when there is a big diaster/problem.

Rockport24 04-13-2010 01:13 PM

I think they do a good job dramatising it all to keep it interesting, so I'll watch.
We all know reality TV is far from reality sometimes, but that's what makes it watchable.

I see the point that it gets old, but I still like the show

nightfighter 04-13-2010 03:56 PM

Hell yeah, I'll be watching. Want to see how the production company has put together their tribute to Captain Phil. I think they have tried to raise the bar given his early demise. A kid from my niece's class at Oyster River HS is one of the original production guys, although I don't think he actually goes on the boats anymore.

Adam_777 04-13-2010 04:48 PM

I'll be watching it .One of the only shows I watch.

Pete F. 04-13-2010 04:51 PM

Having been involved with one "reality" show, you just need to remember that it's not all real. I just hope the guys running the boats are making some money off it, cause I guarantee you everyone else is. It would be gone in a heartbeat if it was a loser.

striperman36 04-13-2010 06:08 PM

on the Dish DVR

luds 04-13-2010 08:14 PM

Pretty good first 15 minutes. Don't call my boat unless you're f:fury:ckin' sinking!!!!!!!!!!

Bob Thomas 04-13-2010 08:15 PM

I like their crab dances

Dad 818 04-13-2010 09:20 PM

Found it interesting the 2 boats traded Jakes. Wonder if Capt. Phil passes away before his son gets back on his boat?

SurfCaster413 04-13-2010 10:22 PM

I thought it was great first episode cant wait for next week!

The trading of the Jakes seemed like it was at the request of the producers to add a story line especially seeing that the Captain's themselves admitted that it was never/rarely done in the past.

I totally agree and said the same thing when I saw it, but who the f cares? it makes great TV. I wouldn't be surprised if the producers had something to do with the Keith/Jonathan scuffle, but still, it was freakin' awesome!

GREAT first episode, well done by discovery

Phil and Sig had mentioned doing this in a previous season while sitting around the bar. Not sure if it was last year or 2 years sgo.

jake 04-14-2010 11:22 AM

I always enjoy watching this show. I wonder why crab legs are so expensive.

Dad 818 07-13-2010 06:25 PM

Tonight the good Captain passes away.

SurfCaster413 07-13-2010 07:16 PM

luds 07-13-2010 10:12 PM

I have it on the DVR. I have not caught every episode this season but I'm go to watch this one. RIP Captain Phil.

Raven 07-14-2010 04:51 AM

saving it for a year or two

SurfCaster413 07-14-2010 05:47 AM

I think discovery did a great job last night, it was done very respectfully I had goose bumps when they started playing the johnny cash music

Raider Ronnie 07-14-2010 05:57 AM

What happened last night.
The commercials kept saying it was going to be a special 2 hr show, ended up 1 hr normal show followed by the other show After the catch.

i thought the same thing.

JoeBass 07-14-2010 08:36 AM

It was well done and respectful. Poor f'ing Phil. I think he was only 53. That sucks. His drug addict son needs a good beat down. It makes me mad he's wallowing in his own problems while his Dad is dying. Pull it together for the old man.

It's not easy loosing a dad so young. but I caught "after the catch" and it looks like they are doing okay.. the younger one "looks" healthier so maybe it was a wakeup for him. They were also smoking those vapor cigarettes for some of it... so hopefully they are trying to quit that f*** habit. Though I don't believe most people do. Phil also left them plenty to stay on their feet it sounds like. They also have something many don't, a solid support system and a strong extended family. They will be ok.

Damn shame though...

Slick Moedee 07-14-2010 09:46 AM

They were also pitching next week's episode as a two HR special. Thought it was well done. Defiantely got the chills when Johnny started playing.

Was glad the kid was able to tell the old man he was going to get help.

Found it funny that the pitcher of CL in the middle of the table never changed it's level.

StriperZ 07-14-2010 04:14 PM

Mike Fourtner from the Time Bandit said it the best. I mean, let's be honest, they all said it one way or the other.

MF: He looked right at the camera and said, "All you couch potatoes watching this, you think to yourself, 'I can do that', <pause while looking at the camera with a huge grin> No, You can't!"

He is so right. Very few get the chance and some of those fail once they get it. Capt. Phil thrived on it. May he rest in peace.

HABSJR 07-14-2010 07:24 PM

I will be watching, love that show. I have lot respect for those guys who willing do those dangerous jobs to making a living.

Amen to that. Hard as hell. I had friends who went to Alaska after highschool to strike it rich on the fishing boats "$20,000 in a month! You won't make that in a year!"...every single one was home within 12 months saying it was horrible. Not everyone has the right combo of skills and huevos for that work.
