The 100 pound bass

This is the picture from the "other" site on the NJ forum. Stated that it was caught and released in MD.

I cannot say anything other than if the picture is real then it's the biggest bass I have ever seen in 43 years of chasing Stripers.

luds 04-26-2010 02:55 PM

Pretty sure that was just a joke on facebook. :smash:

JackK 04-26-2010 02:56 PM

I've seen a few people's faces photoshopped onto that pic on FB, for sure..

piemma 04-26-2010 03:02 PM

There are 84 or 85 posts on the thread the pic came from arguing as to whether there was some "photoshopping" afoot.

decksweeper 04-26-2010 03:20 PM

Surf Caught...?...that's amazing...Hell I might photo shop my face into that for fun.

i already did. its my backround..

keeperreaper 04-26-2010 06:34 PM

When I originally caughit it; it was 103 lbs.

luds 04-26-2010 07:02 PM

100 lbs

I don't know. Unless that's Iron Mike's little brother holding the fish I say it would go 130 lbs easy.

pic looks legit to me

ivanputski 04-26-2010 09:04 PM

I know my way around photoshop... and I dont see signs of photoshop... (edges look clean, lighting is consistent, and the tail in the water along with the reflection looks pretty legit... I think this may just be a case of "no way... it just has to be fake... because its not me" syndrome. But look at the bright side... she's still out there swimming!

Nebe 04-26-2010 09:06 PM

I totally agree Ivan....

chefchris401 04-26-2010 09:17 PM

pic does look legit.

my question is how did they get a weight on this fish or the 71 that was caught a couple weeks ago. My boga only goes to 60. I know i dont carry a regular scale w me while im fishing.

Any ideas?

You guys are too funny.... And it seems we have some serious CSI enthusiasts.

It 100% real... NO BS. Its not photoshoped except that I blurred the face because I personally don't know the person that caught the fish.

The person who sent me the picture is a very good friend. These guys fish and hunt year round and wouldn't even know how to pull something like a fake this good off. The person who took the picture is on vacation but we have a call into him to get some more info for you guys... What did he catch it on, what area, whats his shoe size and if he prefers blondes:squid:

I posted it because I thought you would appreciate a fish of this magnitude. I should have know it would have turned into this but what the hell its entertaining.

Life is too short guys... Just appreciate it!!!

Me as well. Agree that the edges are clean and it doesn't look like any noise has been applied to mask any smoothing. I would have scaled the image up to do the manipulation, added noise, then use some jpeg compression to hide the noise.

I'd also note that the fisherman has his knee into the belly and is leaning way back to balance himself. This is going to foreshorten his torso and head a lot making them look smaller and shorter relative to the head of the fish.

It looks like it's a real photo, perhaps a short fisherman and a lunker bass. But probably a lot smaller than it looks. Not sure it would be that easy to hold a live 80+ pound fish while standing on rocks in the water!

jim sylvester 04-27-2010 09:37 AM

legit 70 lb+ bass all day long

the second picture with him sitting down really puts the fish in proportion

just an absolute beast

congrats to the angler...now kick it in the ass and send it up our way

piemma 04-27-2010 09:43 AM

Guys, I got a PM from a respected SB board member. His friend took the picture and he stated to me that there were no re-touches, photoshop, manipulation of the picture. It is the real deal.

I will respect the fact that this was a PM and not mention the sender's name.

paul

how big did he say they think it was

bassballer 04-27-2010 09:49 AM

congrats to the angler if that was released, and hopefully lived. not to many guys could stomach releasing a fish like that.

piemma 04-27-2010 11:07 AM

Apparently the guy who caught the fish had a 68# last year and witnesses said that this fish was WAY bigger. They didn't have a scale to weigh it and he released it alive.

I wonder if he realizes that a world record Striper could be worth a couple of million $. With endorsements for everything from the hook and swivel to line, rod, reel, dry top, waders, etc, etc. Then there is the tradeshow circuit with the fish mounted plus the writers royalties about the fish, the trip, the fight, articles, books.

I swear I am a greedy Bast**d and the first thing I would do after getting the weight certified would be to get a sports agent.

Jimmy Fee 04-27-2010 11:18 AM

If it was in MD in the Vicinity of the Susquehanna Flats, it's C&R only right now until 4/30 because the bass are up there spawning.

After i got it weighed and certified it would be sleeping in my bed with me and sitting at the table with me and my girlfriend while we ate. Then I'd be wearing any hat, and using a rod someone paid me to. the thought of making a living through fishing and not working my ass off would be to tempting.

Blitzseeker 04-27-2010 11:32 AM

If he even suspected that fish might be a world record and let it go, he's a better man than I.

I release virtually every fish I catch, but if I caught that one it would not be swimming away under any circumstances. That is a life changing fish if it is the record, and it sure looks like it might have been. I'm not sure it is a 100 lb fish, but it sure looks 80 lbs plus.

Wow.

You are dreaming. It's worth very little.

fishbones 04-27-2010 12:16 PM

I don't care if it's 70 or 100lbs, that's a beautiful fish. Congrats to the angler for catching it and then releasing it. It's nice to know that there are fish like that out there within reach of shore.

FINnie 04-27-2010 02:14 PM

ive seen bigger:cheers2:
