Van 08-08-2010 11:33 AM

Its been a while.

Scuttlebutt 08-08-2010 11:45 AM

All Morning... 3 hrs each side of HT. Tides were good on those days.

TheSpecialist 08-08-2010 01:29 PM

Was out there last night good topwater action, other than that slow and lots of small fish. Did catch a black seabass though, and I spied Niko out there, but he didn't see me.

Scuttlebutt 08-08-2010 02:59 PM

Did not get out today...kinda breezy but curious if the bite is still on....anyone? When fish were not on top just drop a swimmer...find bait ball find blues...that simple.

silverardo 08-08-2010 04:54 PM

awesome fishing fri nonstop bite

ProfessorM 08-08-2010 05:02 PM

i am sure the comm guys will be out this week to vacuum them up, hopefully some the guys in my neck of the woods

niko 08-08-2010 05:11 PM

there aren't many comm fish in the mix. just a nice topwater bite. i've seen alot of topwater the last week on the southshore. water is cold and the fish are fiesty

mackenzie 08-08-2010 06:32 PM

I was there just before 7AM and the fish were on top just inside the gut along with about 20 or so boats. Also birds and boats working south of the L.I. bridge. Leaving about 8:30 saw more boats off the beach near the bath house-fairly close. Had a momentary thrill when I got cut off by a boat flying through the gut. I thought I was deep enough to be clear-wrong.

The bite was on again today if you were in the right place at the right time. RR and I (separate boats) had fun for about 90 min in the action. We boated 3 keepers in the mix of constant action.

Looked like they were feeding on baby macs 4-5" by the regurgitated fish.

Was on the blue catamaran, on a charter with some friends, it was nice to fish and not have to work the boat for once. You guys were like 70-80 yards from us before you shot back out of the gut.

A baby mac was snagged on a popper last night, like 6" long.

blue oyster 08-08-2010 08:20 PM

i was out there sat. best top water action i have ever had , cut the trip short with a tired arm , have not seen that many big blue fish since the 80's , heard that area was dead this morning , the bite had moved inside

I'm STILL in search of my first blue this year.

I had luck Friday, Saturday, and Sunday off the top-water action, all bass. Most just short, but a few legals, as well as my best fly bass to date, 37+".

freebie 08-09-2010 08:56 AM

if anyone is going this evening and needs a deckhand I'm available.....

Scuttlebutt 08-09-2010 04:18 PM

I'm glad this thread got some replies. This board has been void of legit reports for a while. Hey, there are tons of fish out in this area right now...I have no problem sharing the "love." Even when it get's a little crowded. Part of the fun is hearing people on nearby boats screaming and yelling. Everyone loves a good blitz now and then.

I just hope it sticks around...I'm all out of vaca time so will have to wait for the weekends. With this much bait around things are looking great for a stellar fall run. The fish are really big right now...just think what they will be a month from now...share the Love!

Monty 08-09-2010 06:58 PM

I couldn't tell what the bait fish were, I was just casting a top water plug, but my fish finder was lighting up and beeping like crazy. I've heard there was peanut bunker and others saying butter fish.

Raider Ronnie 08-09-2010 07:57 PM

Not for nothing but if this were a surf tread naming spots and areas LOTS of the guys on this board would be in an uproar and yelling spot burning !

niko 08-09-2010 08:45 PM

i'll be out there tomorow if anyone's around. niko on 69

Could not agree more. It's tough to spot-burn when the area is from Minot' s to the inner harbor. HAHA... pretty big spot!

Joe 08-10-2010 08:42 AM

Maybe the popularity of a fishing message board is waning as a social vehicle. I'm not sure message boards have an infinite life span.

Fish off the Race when there are 300 boats out there and at least a couple of boats with people fly fishing right in the thick of it... then you'll see how much fun a crowd of nitwits can be.

niko 08-10-2010 01:42 PM

it's crazy how many little macks are out there. i jigged up around 60 of them today and put them to good use. the bite has slowed in that area. let's hope these macks stick around i want to grab some and bridle them up as tuna bait - don't know if they will work but i'm gonna find out

Well said !
This guy with only 20 something starts a tread "come on people" & "share the love"
Another guy with only 6 post wants to yap about pogies and where they are in the harbor !
The harbor is loaded with enough nitwits now, only going to get worse !

I hear you Ronnie, I know you make your money out there, and we're just giving it away. I apologize for my 2 cents and have deleted my info.

Regards.

niko 08-10-2010 05:49 PM

ronnie - stop scaring off all the new guys :rotf2:. but seriously, reports are good and fun to read just don't be too specific. i'll be back out there tomorrow after work. where are all these blues everyone is talking about. i haven't caught one around the harbor

I have not seen the large blue schools (inside or outside) either in several trips but have picked off singletons.

FISHING_FOOL 08-10-2010 07:46 PM

Plenty of morons out there. I had a guy cut me off 4 times in 15 min. Then he yelled at me!

Outch!..Only 20 posts?...Hmmm...I must have missed the rule that states you need 1000 posts about absolute nonsense before you can talk fishing. Sorry if I offended one "elite" member of this board. I guess I'm not worthy (yet?).

Last time I checked this was a boat fishing forum. I'll bet 99% of the folks that visit here look for tips on where and when to fish...so what's the big deal?

This thing about spot-burning is a bunch of nonsense. Fish move around from day to day and every day is different. If you find a spot with big numbers...guess what...unless it's a weekday, chances are you're gonna have company. Get over it. Anyone with a radio, cell phone, a good pair of binoculars and knows what a flock of birds means, will be joining you. It's not about finding fish... it's about how you behave around your fellow anglers when they are found. Privates want to catch fish and charter's want happy clients. Everyone needs their space...charter's need more space. I can respect that. There is always going to be "nitwits." You just need to be patient and deal with it. Since there are probably more "rookie nitwits" like myself visiting here perhaps a little education on fishing etiquette from some of the "elite" members might go a long way. Whatdya think R.R.?

JohnnyD 08-11-2010 11:13 AM

Scutterbutt,

I'm sorry if any offense was taken from my post, as there was none intended. My point was that, just like in any area of life, a crowd always has its share of idiots.

While I am anything but well seasoned at fishing or "elite", the little personal experience I have is that people boat the same way people drive cars - like they own the road (or water in this case) and anyone in their way had better move fast. Generally, people don't have any consideration for those around them, run up on and over breaking fish which immediately pushes them down, cast on top of or over other people's lines and pretty much all out don't give a crap about anyone but themselves - I'd say this goes for at least 50% of the people we encounter out on the water (or on shore).

The above is, in my opinion, the biggest reason people get pissed about spot burning - be it boat or shore.

With regards to your comment on "99% of the folks that visit here look for tips on where and when to fish...", I wouldn't doubt that. I'd bet that on any given day over 1000 people visit this website, most of which probably aren't registered. Why would you want to dish out information to people that don't contribute back?

piemma 08-11-2010 11:26 AM

Since you have been a member since Aug 2007, one would think you would know better than to burn spots. 26 post in 3 years. 1 post every 6.2 weeks.

Very Well put.
I have enjoyed this very informative perspective and if I had a boat, would be very appreciative of it.
Nice of you to contribute to help others. Bah to all those that have their panties in a twist. It is what the true essence of this and other sites is, regardless if you have 1 or 10,000 posts..:btu:

would you be saying the same thing if someone put up a post saying "your island" or one of your mainland spots blew up? I would imagine you wouldn't be too happy....

Johnny...I get your point. But (respectfully) I think there is a difference between "nitwit behavior" (i.e., people that run through a blitz, cut lines, etc.) and what we consider spot-burning. There will always be nitwits...can't help that. This is a fishing board...right? People like to talk fishing, share intel and maybe improve their chances...right? My original point was to simply state that the fishing has been the best I've seen in quite some time (in one general area) and that folks that belong to this board ought to take advantage of it. Sure there are others who lurk and never contribute...can't help that either...we are on the internet...hello! Perhaps if more folks were more open about where things are happening more people would register...IMHO. I just don't get this secrecy thing about spots. What so secret about seeing acres of birds and fish in a 4-5 mile area three days in a row. Heck you can read this in the Herald on Fridays. Or how 'bout seeing a guy's pic holding a 40" with the Treatment Plant in the background. OOOOhhh this must be a spot-burn. Nonsense!!!!

Hey Piemma,

Glad to know we have a Statistics Major on board.

Joe 08-11-2010 02:14 PM

Not really even a provocative post by old flame war standards....Call somebody out by name, use a racist slur, I'm falling asleep here.

Come on guys. Lets be realistic. He said Hull. Hull is pretty effin big. Its like sayin "Cape Cod Bay is on fire" or "Stellwagon is exploding"
They are big friggin areas.

I'll put it for everyone myself............

Cuttyhunk is on fire. 6 over 40 last night.........everyone run over there..........ferry leaves at 5pm. Happy huntin.

Gooseberry is the best dog fishing I have had in 10 years.....Slammers on every cast............Fire in the water is trippy.

Come on, you know what I am saying. Its not like the guy said " go to this long/ lat and you will catch fish" Boats are a whole different beast.........Magnetic boat syndrome is contagiuos. Paul you know what I am talkin about.
Even if I had a boat, I wouldn't know the first dang thing about where to go from his posts:bshake:.

.......watch out.....I haven't slept in almost 2 days and hate my job........time to take a nap so I don't beat the wife or kick the neighbors dog when I get home...............
