ANTIQUE HENWEIGH

What's a henweigh?
Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device |
It depends on the size of the hen, is it a game hen, or a domestic chicken hen, is it big or small, i would say 10 pounds :smash:

Peg Rock Bass Stand - been good to me.
DZ |
Might want to take it to the Antique Roadshow and see what it's worth.
|
I wonder if it is part of the Old Lifesaving Services equipment? Maybe what they used to tie the breeches buoy chair too in the days of old. Where is it? Just wondering.

so many people walk by that and other stands and think that they are braces to hold sewage and salt water pool pipes..

Been known to have rested my sticks aginst it along with using it as an occasional hanger for the plug bag and jacket on hot summer mid-watch nights. Was also the very first place I snuck a peak at the original Rebel F80/F90 Super Minnows that another sharpie caster was bailing fish with. He was kind to the kid - learned alot on that rock. So please, respect the stand for it has history. DZ |
DZ im assuming it was a private stand.. do you know who built it?
|
Not sure Nebe - Peg Rock is the name. Maybe Crafty Angler will chime in as he did lots of research on Newport Bass Stands. No doubt a "gentlemans fishing club" of the time. Plenty more iron stubs in the rocks of Newport. At least 20 stands I know of - probably more that i don't know about.
Take a walk into the historic Travers Building on Bellevue Ave and take a peak at the paintings along the walls in the hallways - in one painting you will see what the actual Peg Rock stand looked like in its original state. DZ |
I came across three different ones this summer I hadn't found before while on the hunt. I know when I see one I'm in the right spot. It sucks when you find them with your shin in the dark though.

I agree.. Peg is a fine specimen. I can only think of the bass stand at Beavertail that is in anywhere close to that good a shape. It makes me wonder if Peg rock was a newer one.
|
It amazes me how many of them are around if you look, I have found a few in places where, at least as far as I know, there were never any bass clubs. Sometimes I wonder if some of them were put in by the military for purposes other than fishing? Anyone know if this might be true?
