"Sick of Winter" Thread

Lets hear it!! Who has had enough and is ready for some open water fishing, yakking, warm sunshine on your face and the feel of a nice striper yanking on the other end???? It feels like a 4th and goal with 5 yards to go..........we will get there but it will be a battle! March 1st is my finish line!! Only 6 weeks which really is not too far away!:uhuh:

The Dad Fisherman 01-12-2011 09:56 AM

Bring on the cold....

Camping this weekend, you should tag along :hihi:, we're building snow shelters to sleep in....it just what the doctor ordered for what ails ya

Rockfish9 01-12-2011 09:59 AM

Be glad you dont work maintenance

My life is a living hell during and for two days after each storm... Yup I hate snow... I dont mind the cold but that white _ _ _ _ belongs in the mountains!:wall:

blondterror 01-12-2011 09:59 AM

Winter just started.. lets enjoy the snow . I will be XC skiing and snowshoeing this weekend in NH. Go catch some fish thru the ice... winter is only 3 months... enjoy it while it lasts....

BigFish 01-12-2011 09:59 AM

You are not quite "Right" in the head Kevin! :rotf2: And I was worried you would be uncomfortable sleeping on our couch!!!:rotf2:

Saltheart 01-12-2011 10:11 AM

Winter I like. Cold clean dense air to breath. Snow I hate , nothing but trouble.

How about snowless wineters? They have any places that get cold but get no snow?

UserRemoved1 01-12-2011 10:26 AM

LOVE THE SNOW

You live in NEW ENGLAND not Aruba

besides it keeps the woodpeckers away :devil2:

robc22 01-12-2011 10:30 AM

No Thanks!!......:hs::hs::hs:

I would settle for mid-march and a little late winter trout fishing right now.......:)

FishermanTim 01-12-2011 10:35 AM

I love the snow!
I cleans the air, absorbs noise, and is a blast for skiing, snowboarding and sledding!
All of this AND the potential for some good ice fishing? It's winter nirvana for the soul!!!
Sure, I enjoy the warmer months, but that's a completely different season and a different set of likes and dislikes, and it will be here in no time.

fishpoopoo 01-12-2011 10:38 AM

Larry, count me in. Over two feet of snow this morning.

Is it just me, or has it been a little colder than in years past?

chefchris401 01-12-2011 10:40 AM

I don't mind the cold but could do away with the snow.

Winter gives me time to work more, bank some cash and build plugs and buy fishing gear.

There is always a place called Florida for the sissies who don't like snow:grins:

tlapinski 01-12-2011 10:55 AM

Snow doesn't bother me. I am actually happy when we get a lot as it direclty relates to how good the spring run in CT has been in the past. Lots of snow leads to solid, steady flooding to really draw the fish up the rivers come May. I just hope it doesn't all melt in the next few weeks. We need a good snow pack up north to feed the rivers. :uhuh:

FishermanTim 01-12-2011 10:57 AM

Actually, this season, nay, this past year has been similar to '94-'95.
Since these weather patterns tend to run in cycles.

Here and in more southerly climes where the snow melt helps the Striper Spawn

Go to Antarctica , hardly ever snows, one of the driest places on earth.
Have fun.
You can look for meteorites on snow mobiles.

Raider Ronnie 01-12-2011 11:12 AM

Hopefully 8 more storms like this before april and cod season opens.

fishpoopoo 01-12-2011 11:22 AM

Mixed feelings about snow ... when we have runoff from a lot of snow, it tends to give tautog lockjaw when fishing NY waters.

Rockfish9 01-12-2011 12:19 PM

I'm keeping track of everyone that LOVES the snow.... and when the ice dams form on thier roofs.. some snow relaated incident occurs on thier property or to their car... or the spring floods combined with melting snow floods their basements.. I'll remind them how wonderfull the snow is... now I'm off to clear the drains on the flat roof of the building.. all the while reminding myself how wonderfull the snow is...:yak5:

Slipknot 01-12-2011 12:28 PM

I hate snow
I'm not a kid anymore
snow is for the mountains

agsurfr 01-12-2011 12:37 PM

I like it. Clean air, beautiful to look at. Besides, when my black lab tries to swim in it it's pretty hysterical.

I live on the second floor of a condo with a pitched roof with no basement at the top of a hill a few miles from the nearest river, so I am clear on all accounts. Yay snow! :jump1:

agsurfr 01-12-2011 01:31 PM

Lovin' it

Winter is what you make of it.
Bags to build, rods to build, plugs to build,...........winter isn't long enough.
Here are some projects at various stages of completion. :tm:

agsurfr 01-12-2011 01:43 PM

Liking the looks of those bags!

Saltheart 01-12-2011 02:20 PM

Antartica!! Just what I need. :)

Actually , few people realize just how huge a place it is.

Cold!! Oh Yeah!! They say if you take a leak outside , the stream will freeze in mid air and you'll be stuck to that spot until the summer! :)

zimmy 01-12-2011 02:38 PM

If it is gonna be cold, I'll take the snow. Winter without snow stinks. Plenty of good open water right now and decent sized fish. If it wasn't cold and snowy, I would think it is the last week of April. Hate frozen braid, though. Only problem I have with the snow is that getting to the barn to and coup to feed the chickens and goats when there is 2' of snow is a bit of a biatch.

cow tamer 01-12-2011 03:00 PM

While removing snow from the driveway and from the crippled trees and bushes, I lost my keys out somewhere in the snow. Maybe I'll find them in the spring or maybe the snow plow carried them away ?
Heavy snow severly damaged three arborvitaes and a pine tree.

FishermanTim 01-12-2011 03:39 PM

Keep in mind that the accumulated snow will provide the spring runoff that will replenish the local aquifer. A winter without snow will mean a dry lawn and stressed trees come the summer.
Spring rains do help, but since they are typically deluges, most of the water runs off before it can do any good, so having a blanket of snow is actually beneficial. How many spring bulbs emerged last spring only to be zapped by a late winter/early spring freeze? Snow cover would have prevented that.

So you see, a snowy winter does have its merit, but like most weather phenominum, it takes a little getting used to.

Rock I too am in Service and it s will suck for the next few days after a storm, thank God Im not on call this week:uhuh:
I did get the day off so my Son & I put the snowblower in the back of the truck,he shoveled the walk ways and steps I did the drive way he made a few bucks!

tysdad115 01-12-2011 03:52 PM

I would still rather shovel tons of snow in lieu of earthquakes, tornados and severe floods. We will all still be alive at the end of winter. There are less fortunate souls out there.

InTheHole 01-12-2011 04:13 PM

48 years old and I still Love the snow, bring it on !!

joe the plumber 01-12-2011 04:24 PM

I have to admit it.I will take the cold and snow for a winter rather than those 38-45 degree cloudy damp winters that seem to have become the norm for Eastern Ct.
