for the attempt at changing the debate in Washington, demanding some fiscal sanity however little it will help things and standing firm despite vicious attacks from some of the lowest forms of life on the planet during "Obama's age of civility"...apparently when the left/democrats use such language it is simply "colorful phrases"...but let the other side touch the constantly in-flux border of civil discourse...and...well...we know what happens :uhuh:

Updated: 8/2/11 Vice President Joe Biden joined House Democrats in lashing tea party Republicans Monday, accusing them of having “acted like terrorists” in the fight over raising the nation’s debt limit, according to several sources in the room.

Biden was agreeing with a line of argument made by Rep. Mike Doyle (D-Pa.) at a two-hour, closed-door Democratic Caucus meeting.

"We have negotiated with terrorists,” an angry Doyle said, according to sources in the room. “This small group of terrorists have made it impossible to spend any money.”

Biden, driven by his Democratic allies’ misgivings about the debt-limit deal, responded: “They have acted like terrorists.”

Biden’s office initially declined to comment about what the vice president said inside the closed-door session, but after POLITICO published the remarks, spokeswoman Kendra Barkoff said: “The word was used by several members of Congress. The vice president does not believe it’s an appropriate term in political discourse.”

Biden later denied he used that term in an interview with CBS. :biglaugh:

“I did not use the terrorism word,” Biden :hidin:: told CBS Evening News anchor and managing editor Scott Pelley.

Earlier in the day, Biden told Senate Democrats that Republican leaders have “guns to their heads” in trying to negotiate deals.

Democrats had no shortage of colorful phrases in wake of the deal.

Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-Mo.) called it a “Satan sandwich,” and Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.) called seemed to enjoy the heat analogy, saying: “the Tea Partiers and the GOP have made their slash and burn lunacy clear, and while I do not love this compromise, my vote is a hose to stop the burning. The arsonists must be stopped.

Biden told Democratic lawmakers that the deal would take away the tea party’s “weapon of mass destruction” — the threat of a default on U.S. debt obligations.

“They have no compunction about blowing up the economy to get what they want,” Doyle told POLITICO after the meeting

We are UP to $47,000 per person (not taxpayer) in this country for our country's debt. In 2011. If things don't change, where will be in 2015? 2020?

How much is the right amount to pass on to our kids?

when all is said and done, this will amount to very little. All both sides did was punt. Another freakin commision to discuss the same old things. This is really sad.

It was a small step forward, but really a wash at this time.

If it weren't for the Tea Party calling attention to crazy spending and Big G
we would be in free fall. At least there is a hesitation with this vote,
but a long,,long way to getting out of debt.

It was pretty impressive to see the Tea Party threaten the House leader with the spectre of default. Hell, they pretty much terrorized...oh great, now you just made me do it as well...

What's pathetic is how little they really gained. The can has been kicked down the road and the tax fight is not settled. The politicians think they have scored a win but the economists are saying the spending cuts could do more harm than good. Had we had a productive bi-partisan bill the benefits could have been much larger...

I think we may see the GOP distance themselves from the Tea Party in the run up to the 2012 election.

what is pathetic is that you continue to try to make a point and cite "economists" as some sort of validity for your statements...the people that you support have absolutely no intention of reducing the size, scope or cost of government with the possible exception of the military....if we are downgraded the reason is debt....debt is not solved by raising taxes, the only way to avoid accumulating more debt is to reduce the amount of current spending ...the people that you suport view raised taxes as new opportunities for increased spending....raising the debt ceiling, raising taxes(PARTICULARLY IN A DISMAL ECONOMY) and citing some phony "cuts" in an environment of baseline budgeting is no way to become fiscally responsible....
the tea party terrorists succeeded in making cuts the main focus of the debate rather than simply allowing Washington to raise the country's debt and tack on some new taxes to try to keep up with the increased spending....given the road that you, those that you support would like to take us down and the scary possibilities had the democrats actually held the house last time around...it might be proper to ask, WHO exactly is intent on blowing things up??????

We're BROKE. Moodys kept our AAA rating but our chief banker, China, downgraded us.

The Democrats call red blooded Americans who are fed up with government waste and out of control spending 'terrorists', but they completely refuse to call radical islamists hell bent on destroying the western way of life 'terrorists.' Interesting approach.

Spence, I agree that little was accomplished, but you, the economists and the dems are not getting that we NEED to do more harm than good. That right - harm. So is the road to a 500lb person losing weight harmful? Of course, its brutal diets and exercise. There is no easy way. Our economy and structure are in the same boat. We need to scale back, take the consequences and move forward. More spending is not the solution just like more food is not the solution to lose weight.

After all, this is a woman who said in April that she won the Pulitzer Prize for bashing conservatives. Days later, she told CBS's Bob Schieffer that Tea Party rhetoric was dangerous.
Last August she called town hall protesters a fringe group and Tea party members "teabaggers." Last April she wondered if Meghan McCain was the GOP's answer to Rush Limbaugh. Last February she attacked ditto-heads and folks that try to combat liberal bias in the media.

The bad news is, that doesn't count projected deficits for social security and medicare. Here's a link from MSNBC (I chose MSNBC so Spence can't claim I get all my data from the Tea Party newsletter)

According to MSNBC, the projected shortfall for social security and medicare is 31.5 trillion (3.7T for SS, 27.8T for medicare).

That adds an additional $105,000 in debt for every living American, to John's $47,000. So now we're at $152,000, or, $760,000 for my family of 5. Isn't that a fine kettle of fish! And that ignores state and local debts! Great!!

Here's what is amazing to me. NOBODY can refute these numbers. Yet when someone like Paul Ryan comes along and has the courage to say "gee, I think we need to fix this", THE VERY NEXT DAY, liberals make commercials showing Ryan pushing old ladies off a cliff. The very next day, liberals (including Obama) claim that conservatives hate old people and poor people! So according to the liberal wing of the Democratic party, unless you are fine with passing this debt to our kids, then you hate old people.

So, we have 14 trillion in operating debt, and 31.5 trillion in entitlement debt. That's a total of 45.5 trillion in extra revenue we need (unless we cut spending). How do we get this money? Liberals seem to think we can get it by increasing taxes a bit.

Let's examine that. Here is a link...

So. Let's assume that we double tax revenue (which we cannot), and assume that we don't pay any interest on that debt (which we do). Even in that rosy scenario, revenues increase to $4.4 trillion, so after we spend $3.8 trillion, we have $600 billion to pay down that debt. If we pay it down by $600 billion a year, it would take 76 years to accumulate the 45.5 trillion we need. Anyone here want to DOUBLE tax rates for 76 years?

Of coursem we cannot even come close to doubling tax revenue. Frequently I hear liberals say that the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy are driving all of this. Let's examine that. The highest estimate I have ever seen, of what we'd get if we eliminated tax cuts on those making over $250k, is $90 billion a year. Fine, let's assume we do that. Know how long it takes to get $45.5 trillion at $90 billion a year? Only 505 years, ignoring interest. What does this mean? It means that anyone who suggests that tax hikes will amount to anything, is wrong.

What does this mean? It means that we cannot BEGIN to tax our way out of this. It means we need massive spending cuts. If any liberals here think we can tax our way out of this, please show me the data to show how. I'm a math guy...I'm rational, and I am easily persuaded by valid data. All the data I see, tells me that spending cuts, not tax hikes, are the fix.

We have a spending problem, not a revenue problem.
