U.S. will guarantee GM, Chrysler warranties, Obama says

"Let me say this as plainly as I can. If you buy a car from Chrysler or General Motors, you will be able to get your car serviced and repaired just like always," Obama said in a speech. "Your warranty will be safe. In fact, it will be safer than it has ever been. Because starting today, the United States will stand behind your warranty."

Any funds for the warranty program will come from the $700 billion Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) provided by Congress, according to White House fact sheet on warrantees that was distributed last night

GM says bankruptcy excuses it from Impala repairs

Wed, Aug 17 2011

By Jonathan Stempel

NEW YORK, Aug 19 (Reuters) - General Motors Co (GM.N) is seeking to dismiss a lawsuit over a suspension problem on more than 400,000 Chevrolet Impalas from the 2007 and 2008 model years, saying it should not be responsible for repairs because the flaw predated its bankruptcy.

GM hits new low

David Shepardson/ Detroit News Washington Bureau

General Motors Co. hit a new low closing price since going public in November, ending the day at $23.60, down $1.34, or 5.3 percent. GM's struggling shares also set a new intraday low of $23.30 before recovering slightly. GM is down 28 percent over its IPO and down 22 percent since July 22.

At the current price, taxpayers could lose nearly $15 billion on their $49.5 billion bailout of the Detroit automaker. The government's 500 million shares — or a 26 percent stake — declined in value by nearly $700 million Thursday.

The government's sale of its remaining shares isn't likely anytime soon

Obama also on Monday said he will work with Congress to try to fund credits for consumers who turn in old cars and buy cleaner, more fuel-efficient automobiles.

Programs of this kind "have been successful in boosting auto sales in a number of European countries," Obama said the news conference.

Citing a Lack of Usage, Costco Removes E.V. Chargers
By JIM MOTAVALLI

Costco, the membership warehouse-club chain, was an early leader in offering electric-vehicle charging to its customers, setting an example followed by other retailers, including Best Buy and Walgreen. By 2006, Costco had installed 90 chargers at 64 stores, mostly in California but also some in Arizona, New York and Georgia. Even after General Motors crushed its EV1 battery cars, the Costco chargers stayed in place.

Costco is reversing course and pulling its chargers out of the ground, explaining that customers do not use them.

The first 200,000 Volts sold will qualify for a US$7,500 federal tax credit, which effectively reduces the MSRP to US$33,500

so with only about 3000 sold...plenty of govmint subsidy left :uhuh:

MARK MY WORDS, THE AMERICAN BIG 3S DAYS ARE NUMBERED !
20 years from now maybe Ford will be around, the other 2 forget about.
0 kids today (Y generation 18-30) are buying any of them.

basswipe 08-23-2011 07:13 PM

This thread is moot.Ford and Toyota are now partners in developing REAL hybrids.

Ford And Toyota To Develop Rear-Wheel Drive Hybrids Together

Earthquakes and Depressions breed strange bed partners. Can't wait to see Huyndai and Kia,the two cheepest piece of crap vehicles ever to be built go belly-up.

Toyota got the biggest flush down the toilet by the Obama admin for what was in the end a fabricated recall for "stuck accelators" for the best built cars/trucks on the planet......imagine that.

In the end Ford paid back its "loan" and by partnering with Toyota gave Obama the "One Fingered Salute" he so deseverdly earned.Ford actually took some forward thinking intitiative without Obama's consent and will actually make American autos great again and Obama will have had zero to do with it.

Win/Win for America!

likwid 08-23-2011 07:50 PM

And Hybrids still can't match the mileage of TDI.

Suckerssssssssss

But that's the whole point of the Ford/Toyota venture. They will exceed the mileage and then some.Suckers nothing.....this venture will actually produce engines that make the TDI look like a guzzler.Screw German engineering, wouldn't you rather see US made cars outperforming VW in the fuel economy category?

Currently other than the TDI motor VW's suck.

Ford didn't take any bailout money.

The rest literally begged for bailout money.

Doesn't hurt that the F-series pickups have out sold every other
pickup in it's class since the early 90's and is the only one that
has increased sales since 2008.

HE LIED

They're refusing to service pre-O'bama vehicles on a case by case basis.

I have first hand information from today.

tysdad115 09-23-2011 01:21 PM

Who is refusing ? GM ? I have first hand knowledge too...every day, GM isn't refusing any repairs.

Tysdad I heard it from the horses mouth. I have no reason not to believe him I've known the guy for 20 years?

tysdad115 09-23-2011 03:42 PM

I'm a service manager at a GM dealership. Have been for seven years. The dealer empowerment has increased hugely. In no way has anything been put out stating to deny any coverage on any vehicle if that is what your being told.

UserRemoved1 09-23-2011 04:05 PM

10-4 tnx. I own two. I'm being raped for a vane position sensor in my lly g van right now. Also told Tech 2 is the only thing out there that can diagnose this supposedly by moving the turbo and watching the signal ecm voltage.

$700 dealer only part plus labor.

I hate this #^&#^&#^&#^&. And I'm about to buy another.

Karl F 09-24-2011 10:17 PM

well, from the blue oval POV.. my wife's 06 Mountaineer, went to Ford with an issue, and it is off warranty, but we have the extended, (100 detuctable) that we negotiated into the sale when we bought it new...dealer called all fixed, pick it up, ready to fork over the C-note, and the service writer says, "No Charge, computer shows that the Mercury (when they were still around) dealer fixed this once when on warranty, second round, same issue, on Ford. And if it comes up again, we will address it again."
Thank You!

That has a 5 year 100k warranty on it, you should look me up I can help you out with that. As a business owner and frequent GM customer you deserve some assistance.

5.5 years old. 60,585 mileage. They say select emissions components only. I say it's not even the sensor the truck has a serious history of doing "possessed" things...as in check lights, tranny codes, abs, low water, low fuel, etc etc.

Dave, when did you take out the Ford 302, and put a chevy 305 in ??? ;) or did you somehow find a way to punch it out and only gain 3 cubic inches????

my old F150 with the 4.6 got somewhere between 12 and 15 around town, and up to 22 on the highway, depending on how heavy the right foot was ..the wifes old expedtion with the 5.4 was the same...my now truck superduty, with the 5.4 gets an honest 11 around town, and 17 on the highway, but, it is a heavier vehicle, and geared lower...but it is nice to be driving a real truck again :uhuh:

All the more reason to give you assistance. We've sold alot of those and don't have that many problems with them. Although we have replaced a couple turbos on the vans. The vane position sensor didn't fix them, the vanes in turbo stick when commanded..Have replaced maybe 2 turbos since they came out. My shops in Wareham, I can help you if they wont.

Karl, I didn't. I think I'm losing it, thats like the 3rd mistake I made

Ya, you were getting that mileage when gas prices started rising and you had

$902 and picking up tomorrow. I passed along your comment about them not doing me any favors...that went over like a lead balloon.
Soon as I get the vin tomorrow I call Obama motors... screw this. Last truck I ever buy there and I'm going to make sure the salesman knows it too.

UserRemoved 09-27-2011 10:22 AM

Picked up today got 12 miles. Abs light and security light within seconds of each other. And the sensor is NOT shorted.

45 minutes on the phone with o'bamas homeland this morning. Next is dispute the 902$ charge. Salesman grabbed me on the way in I said sorry that's now 7 gm vehicles I've bought through your dealer. Not again.

Anyone wanna buy this piece of crap? I'm done with Obamamotors.

Not a fan of Obama but can you still separate Obama from what this is: an issue with a truck at a dealership.

It sucks and I do hope you get it resolved but one has nothing to do with the other.

tysdad115 09-27-2011 11:33 AM

Certainly not knocking anyone but the truck has an issue that dealer can't fix. No denying the trucks problem, but what's the dealers problem? Techs not trained? Or inexperienced?
Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device

UserRemoved 09-27-2011 11:50 AM

Not my intention to bring this up here John. Andy was reading this thread and the title is Obamamotors. Split this off to the goF forum and we can continue this there.

It is however a vehicle made by gm. And Obama did say the us govt would stand behind this which they obviously haven't. How this all went down does a good job of showing this hasn't happened. Dealer knows all the issues with this truck for 5.5 years now and hasn't done anything to fix it all while under warranty.

Scott - I worked for dealers for years, also in service. Sounds to me like you have a hard problem to diagnose or not a crack team working on it. This happened long before "Obama motors" and is totally independent of it. You probably should have taken this to the GM District Service Manager for escalation.

My point is, this has nothing to do with Obama.

UserRemoved1 09-28-2011 04:35 PM

I think Obama called GM......I think he's reading this.

Andy did you call them just curious? They called me this morning woman said she was district rep but she sounded like she was calling from India still. I believe she said I should not have been charged for this part. She's supposed to call back Friday.

Barry if your reading this I'll vote for you if you fix my truck but you still should kick the aunt & uncle to the curb ok?

tysdad115 09-28-2011 04:53 PM

No Scott I didn't call. The case will be escalated to a tier 2 specialist. They will reimburse you. I only chimed in this thread to state GM is doing more than they ever have to help customers, they know how they used to be and are taking steps to right the ship. Your truck definately has a problem. Your dealer can help you but doesn't want to. IMO your issues could have been handled much better. GMs policies are quite clear on customer issues, and not one of them is politically motivated.

UserRemoved1 09-28-2011 06:27 PM

Well if they fix it then I'll sure be happy. Tnx for your help!

Wish you weren't so far from me for service you'd get my business.

This dealer was always like that when Tuck owned it. Btw I put the sensor on the bench and looked at it with an ohm meter and it looked fine.

Jackbass 09-29-2011 05:09 AM

Wrong wrong wrong. The new eco boost engine is well into the twenties and the ranger is nit a guzzler. The biggest pigs out there are the super duties but what do you expect.

File under chuckle...a GM customer service rep popped up on the duramax forum today on this. Good if they're using forums to improve their product. Bad if it's cya mode.... They're probably here now too.

Well the dispute went beyond the 45 day rebuttal time and not even a call from the dealer. Oh sorry we forgot about it....nope.
