Rav,
What do you like so much about the pices moon? Either way, I'm happy to hear you are so optimistic about the first day of my annual trip to the canal! Dave |
i consider it to be Prime time
just before the full moon still in the 2nd quarter just as the temps begin to change in relation the position of the moon to the Pisces constellation almost magical but that's just me |
Does that mean you'll be fishing the Pisces moon Raven?

Do they have special names for new moons as well?
|
only the astrological sign the moon is in .....
no fish where wpm was at.... |
Been on vacation on Cape Ann. Fishing pre dawn last 3 mornings. I lost 1 bass Sunday, and 1 caught 1 20 pounder (fought just like the fish I lost) yesterday. Skunked today. Moon did not set this AM until sun came up (yesterday it set earlier). So bright at 4:30AM I could read the logo on my dry top as I headed out. Only good thing about fishing around the full moon is if I do not catch I can say "it was too bright". Big fan of new moon or clouds and fog. But the mornings have been beautiful.

Hey thanks a lot Raven!

I had my best night as far as numbers under the moon last night. Maybe it helps that im a pisces? anyways the moon was bright and beautiful and the fish agreed.

Wish I could have said the same........... 3.5hr for a blue. Although the Am was nice to watch
|
Moon was so bright last night ( this morning) I could see crabs walking on the bottom...it didn't bother the fish... mixed schools of fish from rats to fish in the low 30's ( lbs not inches) fed for over 3 hours as they worked their way into the tide following pods of herring drops along the beach... by high tide they had worked 3 miles south... this is one of my favorite moons, only trumped by the Strawberry moon....
|
Full moon = zero fish on Cutty :(
Oct better work out better on the Vineyard :) Only time will tell ...lol |

i should have Titled the thread as Moon in pisces instead of pisces moon the next new moon on the 27th (and 28th) the moon is in the sign of Libra deemed to be semi fruitful so if ya want to call it the Libra moon (after that it jumps into scorpio...29th ,30th):btu: thats up to you... but as Rockfish9 just mentioned there are local names for the full moon that designate .........seasonal changes |
Good stuff Raven! Although last night I was referring to it as the
"F---ing Moon". ;) DZ |
it keeps me up @ nite
can't sleep past 3 am on a full moon sumthin bout the energy crabs love it |
I have had great luck in fresh water on the full moons but not so much in the salt. Its great to be out in the night light but fishing is lacking too often. The "F'ing moon" phrase has slipped through my lips many times.

Try echinachea root mixed with some herbal essence for the crabs

Never ceases to amaze me how many people curse a full moon but these same people will fish during the day... mind blowing..the more people that stay home on a full moon the happier I am.

That is the usual perspective of the boat fishing community on the topic of bright moons. Not sure but I think you’re part of that group? Bright moons “potentially” have a much more detrimental effect on the surf caster. DZ |
I've had great night with bright moons with fish over 30lbs . This past week when I busted the rod , there was cloud cover most of the time .....

It's an old myth that has lived far too long... 11 of my 15 fish 50lb or better ALL have been taken on or within 2 days of the full moon... that includes a 58lb fish from head of the meadow beach in Trurro in October of '87 and a 54lb fish earlier the same year taken off of the rocks at boars head in new hampshire.. BTW.. both those fish were taken on plugs under a jillion candel power full moon... there's nothing mystical or secret about it... you just need to believe... i believe in results...so, I dont sleep much on a full moon. this is more information than I've given out in some time.. time for me to stop yapping and get back to work... |
wish I was there Joe :)
and ya, too much information, wait another decade or so:uhuh: and keep on :fishin: |
The fishing was good for me this week.
monday 12-430am tuesday 12-330am it was so bright i didnt need my lights for anything. no clouds anywhere. lots of fish, nothing over mid teens but numbers wise, great. monday was big blues and smaller stripers mixed in, darters and redfins absolutely crushed, lost my mojo darter after three consectuive hook ups, :( fish took it around a rock on the reef, oh well. Thought i had an albie on at night but ended up being a tail hooked striper, must have came up and over the plug and managed to get the single hook in the meat at the base of the tail. put up a great fight. tuesday was more of the same, fish every other cast, lots of short hits, bigger fish and no blues. no bait at the spot i was at, but lots of spearing around. dark over light colors were the hot ticket for plugs. overall a good two nights of fishing, and also not another person out, hit 5 spots on my way to my desired location, ghost town, I love fishing at night. :) |
There is only one gripe I have about a bright full moon... when you get them in close, large fish (30 to 50+ pounds) love to duck under the boat and hide in the shadow. I'm positive that most people know that is the last place you want to battle a fish, especially when "bottom" is only in two feet below the skeg. It makes for some very tense moments when these fish hold bottom behind the transom and/or continuously dart diagonally to opposite ends of the boat while the angler has to run around the deck like a dog chasing it's tail.
God I love the full moon!!! ...Joe does own a surf belt. It was put to use under the same bright conditions two nights prior. We were casting into exactly the same type of water. We were just standing on the opposite side of the waves.:tooth: |
