Benefit Tournament For Crafty?
Since it seems like the Habs is not going to happen this year, would anyone be interested in throwing together an impromptu tournament with all of the proceeds going to Chuck? We could run it the same weekend as usual, Columbus Day weekend, everyone throw in $15, I'll provide prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the form of plugs made by me :hee: anyone else who wants to toss in some plugs is more than welcome to sweeten the pot.
What do you all think? Should we make this sticky and go for it? -Dave |
I would be in.
If there is going to be a raffle or additional prizes I'm sure can come up with some plugs. I can also check with Quonny B&T if you need a weigh station for south county. |
id be in, have some pluggage i made a while back i can throw in.
Dave please dig out another jr (snapper blue) for me that i snapped off in a blitz fury. Thanks, and think its a great idea. |
That's a great idea, Dave. I can't make it because I'll be on the Vineyard for the Derby that weekend, but will throw a plug in for a raffle or to add to the prize pot.
|
YES!!!
Will through in some stuff too! |
Fishbones... you could still enter, there's no reason why a fish caught on the Vineyard wouldn't qualify. I figure it might be easier to just have a downloadable weigh slip, maybe snap a phone pic of the fish and weigh slip and post it here.
No one should cheat in this kind of contest, no money at stake and it would be a real kick in cujones to cheat in a benefit contest... :uhuh: |

"seems like" or "definitely no" Habs tournamet/raffle this year ?
Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device |
I think we're looking at a "no" but I've talked to Joe and we're going to try and bring it back and make it better for next year.

Boatfish?
|
I think in the interest of keeping it simple, it will be surf.
If we do boats too, we're going to need divisions and more prizes... it needs to be easy because we don't have much time. |
Both - PayPal as gift or a couple local shops - c&r?

well then boat fish should be in, because you all say boat fish are .....

I'm in. Since I'll be fishing the Vinyard that weekend, I doubt I'll catch anything prize worthy. In any case, it's a great cause.

So far we have custom donations coming from...
(Me) Surf Asylum Afterhours Johnny Chef LeftHook And more stuff to sweeten it up from JohnR JLH ChrisJoe13 (New RMs) iamskippy If you're not familiar with Johnny's work he's the guy who makes these... among many other amazing creations. Met him last week at the Canal, one hell of a nice guy too. |
I'll throw in a copy of "Surfcasting Around the Block" for the largest bass caught and released on a needlefish plug.

Dave, let me know how I can help.
Maybe fashion it after the C&R tourney the Edge did earlier this year? My only problem with that one was the need to go to Newport to get your "official slip" the day before the tournament. What if we could email the form to all participants the day before? They can then print it out and include that in the photograph to be provided for "proof of catch". |

Here are the rules that I came up with, let me know if you think I missed anything important.
Rules: 1. The tournament will run from 6 p.m. Thursday (October 4th) to 12 p.m. Sunday (October 7th). 2. All fish entered must striped bass of legal size (over 28 inches) and they must be caught in a surfcasting situation. This means the angler must be contacting the Earth with some part of his or her body. No boats or kayaks can be used unless they are used to access an area to fish from the surf. Fish caught anywhere stripers swim are eligible for the contest. 3. This is a catch, photo and release tournament, the winner will be determined using a combination of total inches tallied for his or her top three longest fish of the weekend. 4. All measurements should be rounded to the nearest whole inch, anything under the half inch line is rounded down and any fish measuring at or past the half inch mark will be rounded up to the next whole number. Example: 28.25 = 28 inches, 28.75 = 29. 5. Any striped bass entered into the tournament must be photographed with a measuring tape showing inches stretched out next to the fish and with the tournament tag visible in the photo. A second release shot is strongly encouraged and a special release shot photo prize will be awarded. 6. Tournament entries must be received by October 1st and the Tournament Tag will be emailed to you during the day on Thursday. Download and print the tag and bring it with you when you fish. 7. All fish photos must be posted in the Tournament Thread on this forum or emailed to tourneyforchuck[at]gmail.com by 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. Please make sure to include your NAME and the LENGTH of the fish you're entering. 8. A series of prize packages will be awarded for first, second and third place, an award for largest bass caught and released on a needlefish will also be awarded. More places and prizes may also be awarded as more donations come in. 9. In the event of a tie a fourth fish will be added to the tally of the tied anglers, so make sure you photograph and enter all legal-sized fish you catch. 10. The tournament will go on in almost any weather situation, in the event that we have a hurricane or other situation that may make it impossible for participants to fish safely the rain date will be October 11-14. 11. All participating anglers will do so at their own risk, striped-bass.com cannot be held responsible for any injuries incurred during the duration of this charitable event. TO ENTER: Please PayPal $15 to the site (gift option) with Tourney For Chuck in the comments section along with your name, S-B Handle, cell# and email address... don't worry your privacy will be well-protected. If you don't want to PayPal the money, PM me and we'll figure out another avenue. I will hopefully be adding a few tackle shops to the sign up train here too. Stay Tuned... |
Anyone donating pluggage please PM me and I'll give you my address so you can mail them along.
EDIT: Just heard from R.M. Smith and he will be adding some plugs to the pot as well! |
Maybe run it through Mon 8th which is a holiday?
|
The rules regarding having a camera will discourage people from entering the tournament for reasons from not owning a waterproof camera to taking the risk damaging a cell phone camera.
Honor system with having your name posted on the front Page with a caption referencing the tournament. The plugs and goodies can go to a raffle like with the Habs tournament where we can all meet, eat and drink. Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device |
Victor - would love to e able to skip the camera in the tourney but the photos are pretty important - as is quicker C&R when possible. So please be ready with the camera.
As technology gets better and cheaper it can be leveraged to enhance honesty & accuracy in C&R Tourneys to make them more authentic and viable than kill tourneys. Having a benefit tourney for Chuck should try to leverage that better technology and make running the tourney easier and better - even though people are less likely to, umm, exaggerate on a Chuckle Tourney :rotf2:. |
$10 for a waterproof disposable $15 or so for a camera baggie.
Another question, Who can join this? Can i sign my son up as he is not a member? Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device |
Dave all sounds great, i can give you my pluggage and cash next time i see you.
