Sandy's Visit
Models are moving more into agreement with a westward movement of Sandy across LI into the CT River Valley as shown yesterday.
Most US meteorologic organizations are starting to compare this to Hurricane Hazel or the gale of 1878 Hang out here for updates. http://meteocentre.com/models/gemglb...N_180_0000.gif http://meteocentre.com/models/ecmwf_...N_168_0000.gif |
Hurricane sandy now.
What amazes me is the model agreement this far out and major mets talking in absolute terms. This is still 6 days away. |
Yes, it is amazing
Here is the blended 4-7 map from the hpc center http://www.hpc.ncep.noaa.gov/medr/5dayfcst_wbg.gif |

Just checked the latest GFS Model. AT 6:00PM on Tuesday it puts the center just south of LI. Check out the pressure and gradients. Amazing!
Attachment 53431 Model on early Wednesday...just about over NYC. Attachment 53432 Then late Wednesday the system actually backs up a little over LI again. Attachment 53433 The last image (which I was unable to post) shows the center in central Vermont on Thursday. After last year's storm I said screw it...I went out last night and bought a generator. |
the NAO has this thing blocked from going North
the tilted trough/front is not moving fast enough to consume it it is not going to be a pleasant week. |
Now another GFS run just came out...this is amazing. Now they have the center moving further off shore then taking a left turn just south of LI...then moving counter clockwise back over NYC, New Jersey and Pennsylvania...then looping back over LI again...then over central Mass...I give up...never seen anything like this...guess we will just wait and see. Here is the animated link.

And I just changed my damn truck rental (for the third time) to Wednesday. Should be an interesting trip up the eastern seaboard on Thu/Fri.

Altough our buds in south jersey have to bear the brunt of Sandy's landfall, NWS has identified a SECOND area of hurricane force winds caused by the pressure compression of the colliding cold front heading south and the expansive wind field of Sandy along all southern MA, RI coasts
be careful, very careful |
I left the boat in....I still want to tog fish when everything settles out next week.
This should stress test my new custom R&W pennant (dual 1" double braid with a heavy sling link) . I should be OK. Looks like mainly a wind event for us. My worry now is that there are a few comm guys who don't take care of anything who stay in the same mooring field, some of their pennants are old worn out crap and none of them carry any insurance. Almost every comm guy I met out here does not believe in insurance. If his boat hits mine I will probably have to take matters into my my own hands, lets hope it does not come to that! Also there is a sail boat behind me that has not moved in 8 years. Looks like hell. The mooring gear is solid though. Monday night should be interesting. |
watch out for surge, remember the foot shot from the dock from Irene.
We really won't know until she turns left where we are going to be weathewise |
My marina is the place where everyone brings their boats to weather the storm. N/E blow is protected by a massive hill with massive apartment developments under the shadow of the tobin bridge.
Last hurricane we went down and had a pickinic on board. The place sells out. Just have to keep the new storm weary shelter seekers from tying up the place like a maze of spider webs. Came home from Chatham yesterday and my slip was criss-crossed in a maze of dock lines. Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device |
Dark and Stormy's for everyone!
Cheers! enjoy the show... |
I'm not taking any chances with this predicted storm.
I made sure I brought in my Romney & Scott Brown lawn signs. :uhuh: |

My store has sold out of ginger beer to make dark and stormy's but I have a emergency backup case in my pantry, right next to the duct tape and flashlights. I am good to go. :cheers2: |
Latest floater animation has an eastern wobble.
So much for the models. |
THIS JUST IN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Apparently water was splashing over the seawall on Revere beach. OH THE HUMANITY !!!!!!!!!!!! What a disaster. Quick go buy more milk because there is nothing like the smell of sour milk days after as TERRIBLE hurricane like this..... Freakin media. I think all these storm reports are sponsored by Stop and Shop...... |
Starting to howl a bit up here in Boston proper. Periodic heavy gusts. Still have power (fingers crossed with 3 kids under 6) looks like a hurricane already went through the house. The Corrib Pub is only a few blocks away so there is a contingency plan.
