Dogs

I am looking for a dog. I've been all over the internet.
Med size short hair male that must like cats.
Any and all suggestions appreciated.
Woof.

Found both my dogs on petfinder, both as 8 week old puppies.

Think any dog will be able to get along with cats if raised right. Mine have no issues with them.

depends what you want

But… A friend of mines lab was a the stud in a quality liter born today. I am sure they won't be cheap, but top end dogs. PM me if interested.

Slingah, I know everyone has their favorite breeds, but while they may have long
hair, you'll never go wrong with a Golden Retriever, imho. Most short hairs shed as much as long hairs and it sticks in everything where the long hair stays on the surface. Greatest temperament of any dog I've ever known, loves to swim and will stay by your side while fishing or anywhere else. Labs are great too but are higher strung. Good luck finding the right one, for sure he'll be a lucky dog if owned by you. :)

If you get a pup the cat will probably establish who's boss right away and they'll be fine. An older dog may present an issue. Energy level is a big thing you need to consider when choosing a breed.

Got my present dog "the Chief" on Petfinder at a shelter called "one tail at a time", those people were great to deal with. Lab/Hound pup mix, pissa Dog. Plenty of awesome good dogs and pups at the shelters that will love ya for giving them a good home. He gets along with the wifes 4 cats. But like others said....he came into the house as a pup to an established house of cats....although at that time we had and old female dog that showed him the ropes also.

Raven 11-26-2013 08:49 PM

my dog is so jealous of when my wife and I kiss
that she gets all bent out of shape over it lol

sadly she's goin blind and I have to use sounds to lead her to
the way back in.... she has some side vision but low light
scenarios , she's finding it tuff to navigate .

beamie 11-27-2013 09:06 AM

I guess one thing you have to think about Slingah is the breed.

Unfortunately certain breeds like the pit bulls, German Sheppards, Rottweilers......there are a few more.

If you get one of these breeds, once your HO insurance finds this out, and they will eventually.....they greet you with some more $$$ on the annual premium.

My boy Bait. Found him on Petfinder 4 years ago. He was the Eukanuba Dog of the Month. Jumped all over him and rescued him. Cost 400 bucks for: transportation (he came from TN like most), he was fixed, he had chip implanted in his back in case he got lost, and he had all his shots. Best purchase of my life, best dog I've ever owned...

chefchris401 11-29-2013 05:46 PM

Beamie that's another reason to get a mixed breed.

My pit is registered as a boxer mix, makes no mention of her other "mix" so no increase of rental insurance and no issues bringing her places.

Got a 16 month old English Pointer 11 years ago while on vacation up in Maine, she has been the best dog ever. Goes on point naturally (very cool) and loves to run, back in her day 6 miles was easy for her. Very laid back and likes to chill with the family. Name of the shelter was Lincoln County Animal shelter near Boothbay.

Raven 12-09-2013 05:30 AM

STAR bumped into a SKUNK literally
don't think she even saw it
luckily she didn't get sprayed too bad
hopefully with these new lower temperatures
they have gone into Hibernation

justplugit 12-12-2013 09:59 AM

Rav, that's the pits.
My friend lived on a golf course and walked his German Shepherd every night loose on the course. One night his dog ran into a wooded area and suddenly started choking and wretching.
My friend ran over thinking he must of swallowed a golf ball!
He reached down into his throat and sure enough there was something round down there so he worked his fingers around it and started grabbing and pulling trying to pull it out. No luck until he realized it was the dogs Adams apple! He figures WTH ?, and then it hit him as the smell of a skunk radiated from the dog. LOL Both he and the dog survived. :D
When I worked on the farm we had 3 Blue Tick Coon hounds that would run every night. They would always come home but if they didn't they would stay out for 2-3 days walkin slowly looking peaked and come back smelling like skunks.
Hence the expression, "sick as a dog." :D

Raven 12-12-2013 11:34 AM

luckily for me and the dog
i had skunk smell remover @ the ready.

My girls got a boxer and I wanted no part of it at first. But they really grow on you, playful, affectionate, truly amazing how protective they can be, especially around younger kids when they're roughhousing, loves long walks and wins most those staring contests to see who blinks first. He's become my personal trainer, psychologist and confidant all in one.

I have a friend who has blue tick/pit mix puppies, don't know if they are all spoken for. Mother and dad are both really sweet dogs. My 14 pound whippet/chihuahua mix pushes them both around. :)
