First one I have heard of this year, but last year seemed to be a banner year for them near by. Where was that one?

A friend of mine lives in Fairhaven and has seen them on West Island already this winter.

HESH2 12-31-2014 10:33 AM

yeah i was just watching a show on Snowy's and to feed their chicks
they consume two lemming's per day

so where ever rodents are plentiful you'll find these owls

Clammer 01-01-2015 07:49 AM

Ya wanna see them chase a rabbit , Good thing there are bushes & brush ><>:eyes:

Not a snowy owl, but this eagle showed up in my backyard yesterday.

blondterror 01-03-2015 09:24 PM

No luck at Plum Island for me.... I scouted the whole area and spoke with many hard core birders... There was a sighting at Salisbury the previous day

chefchris401 01-03-2015 09:28 PM

last year sachusset in newport was the spot, they were every where, already seen two there this season.

with all the rabbits and rodents there, im sure theyll be there all winter again.

BMEUPSCOTTY 01-04-2015 01:31 PM

Never seen a snowy, but I'd love to. I'm thinking Gooseberry would be a good place to look? Some kind of owl scared the crap out of me out there one night last fall...

If you like to see a hawk or owls swoop down then attached a small length of twine to a mouse against a contrasting background.

There are a few Bald eagles around. Saw one the other day sitting on the ice at Wallum Lake.

Saw a snowy at the Misquamicut State Beach just after Christmas. It was sitting atop a telephone pole when I took my daughter there to practice driving. It was very brave and did not startle when we drove by time and time again. In fact while practicing parking we watched it swoop down to a puddle, take a drink, and then fly back up onto the pole. VERY cool

Last winter there was one that hung around the condos near the water slide all winter.

I hear that Napatree has them too.
