That kid who made the "clock"

His family is demanding 15 million dollars from the town and school department.

How blatantly obvious was this set up ? Build something that looks like a bomb.. Get chastised for it and then lawyer up...

scottw 11-24-2015 07:45 AM

lot's of kids will now be going to school with odd devices disguised as science projects

Or, an innocent kid who wants to be an engineer collides with racism and fear.

it's often hard to tell if Spence is trying to be funny or completely serious

At best, if he was truly interested in engineering he underwhelmed people by repackaging a 30 year old clock - rather than engineering one. At worst he was trolling for notoriety.

Is there any evidence of this?

Conspiracy theories don't count.

buckman 11-24-2015 12:00 PM

I bet the kid with the pop tart gun could get a few million himself . Only in today's America.

Exactly this. How is taking apart an old clock and putting it back together considered engineering?

Nebe 11-24-2015 12:27 PM

Engineering a perfect trolling excercise in American Fear mongering to his advantage ;)

You've got to love it when a 14 year old boy is accused of plotting a terrorism hoax because his clock isn't sophisticated enough.

WTF?

HA! the point is that the friggin thing undeniably looked like a bomb, so of course there needed to be some alarm. Oh yeah and it was in a SCHOOL. Its funny how law abiding citizens can't carry guns in schools, but fake bombs that scare people is just an overreaction and racist.

The point about engineering is that all this kid did was take apart a clock and put it in a box, as Bill Maher said: "that's like pouring cheerios into a bowl and saying you invented cereal"

OH and why does this kid need $15M, didn't facebook offer him a job for that kind of salary already???

I don't see how you could do anything with a clock and not make it look like a bomb, if you're a Muslim ;)

A local Dallas paper investigated this and didn't find any evidence it was a hoax, people just want to assume...

At that age I was doing the exact same thing. Rip stuff apart, put it back together. Hell, if you could make anything work you thought you were a genius.

I'd wager that 1) they're still pissed at how bad the kid was treated by the school and police and 2) external pressure is coaching the family to keep the story in the news.

Rockport24 11-24-2015 04:27 PM

I feel like this is right of passage in the political forum to have Spence respond to a post line by line :D

Again, at best he pulled an old clock apart and threw away the box, Hardly engineering. And not even worth a trophy in a day when anyone can win a tropgy

You're doing it again.

Actually it was a pencil box.

here's the deal: there is a faction of muslims who want to kill us all, even apologists like you Spence! We really have no idea of knowing which of them want to kill us and which of them are peaceful people, therefore this kind of thing is the new way of life in the world. Liberals can cry racism and not like it, but as long as muslims are killing innocent people, this will be the way.

Yep, exactly. Very carefully orchestrated. Complete with Obama invitation to White House because he's such a victim.

Spence - You are doing it again, narrating instead of thinking.

If the kid was of mixed religion Amish and Jewish parents with a gay sperm donor, if he took parts from an old radio shack clock, remove the case they came in, and placed them in a pencil box: AT BEST, still hardly engineering.

Strip away ALL of the Social Justice Warrior Muslim Progressive Liberal Conservative RINO Facist GOP GOPe RushMotherFrieckinJoneLimbaugh and any other "label" and look at the facts of a kid that took something out of its original container and put it in a crude box and called it homemmade: you still have hardly engineering at best. Realistically - you have minor fraud/cheating/lying.

At worst, you have a whole slew of possibilities

JohnR 11-25-2015 11:04 AM

Now that I think of it - he does not have the makings of an engineer, but instead the makings of a Politician

I can't believe how the father was smart enough to know that if he sent his son to school with a clock , people's stereotypes would kick in and automatically assume it was a bomb.

More people have been killed w/guns this year in the US than by terrorists. It sucks that you want to now lump in all the gun owners and call them all murders.

Rockport24 11-25-2015 11:57 AM

That's kind of funny because I don't have to call all gun owners murderers, the media and the anti-gun lobby as already done that!

PaulS 11-25-2015 12:50 PM

Do you have any links to that?

You don't have to be that smart, Paul. We have all seen stories of kids getting kicked out of school for "weapons" like a pop tart chewed to look like agun, guns that shoot bubbles, etc. We all know that today, schools will err on the side of caution.

Have you seen a picture of what he brought in? I guarantee you, kids have gotten into trouble for bringing in things that were less scary looking. It looked like a bomb, there is no disputing that.

Obama called them all bitter clingers, who buy guns because they are racist. Words designed to bring us all together.

I agree that the school should err on the side of caution and look into it. However, they went far beyond that. I'm sure most of it had to do with his being Muslim.

The days when a black man takes insults and keeps his mouth shut are over. Did you forget when people tried to take away his country and his religion?

buckman 11-25-2015 01:16 PM

Schools have a zero tolerance for guns, meaning anything gun related or looking like a gun is banned.
I'm assuming they have a zero tolerance policy for bombs too.
What would've happened if they brought that clock on a plane ?

Rockport24 11-25-2015 01:22 PM

don't want to turn this thread into a gun debate, but I'll leave you with this: Why is increased gun control called for after every mass shooting? Some of the proposals have been for a national registry of all gun owners. Sure, no politicians are crazy enough to just come out and advocate for this, but many anti groups have! Hows it that different than a national registry of all muslims?

FishermanTim 11-25-2015 01:31 PM

Another point to consider: Why did he leave the country and move back home???

Wait, you mean his family weren't citizens?

(well, that's another topic for a non-fishing day.)

So some think the school over-reacted?
How would they have reacted had this "child" brought in an actual bomb and obliterated everything in a 200 yard radius?

Surely we would be just as understanding and be considerate of HIS reasons, RIGHT???

In the current social environment we now are forced to live in, we do not have the luxury of turning a blind eye towards each and every so-called "oppressed minority" just for fear of offending their rights to create mayhem and destruction.

Remember when yelling "Fire" in a crowded venue was considered illegal? Now we have progressed to dangerous pranks and stunts that can get you killed.

How about running into a bank or city hall with a plastic squirt gun that you "engineered" to look real, and see what happens?

I wouldn't argue against his suspension but would argue against how he was treated during his "interegation".

The constituion.

Edit - I agree this isn't about guns but rather the crazy thought that we should single out 1 religion and register them (like Trump has stated).
