Trumps handling of this health crisis even to now insisting schools reopen, is trashing the economy, congress has zip to do with it; other than try to legislate help to so many Americans, businesses and entire sections of our economy being devastated. i have three young kids. i wouldn’t want schools
closed
much longer. they are losing out on the childhood they deserve. if older teachers with co morbidities need to retire, then they need to retire because they can’t do what the job now is. Kids need to go to school pretty soon.

Not arguing that kids are loosing out and I realize its he not just the educational loss, but the social aspect as well. Trump saying open without a comprehensive plan and well thought out safety and funding to make that happen are two different things.

We have a republic, not a democracy. The federal government does not have a significant, if any, constitutional role in a comprehensive plan for education of our children. The President has even less than that. It is up to the states when to open the schools. And it is up to the states to fund it.

Then why are you debating?

The SCOTUS did not say they were unconsitutional.

I would be overjoyed if the federal Department of Education was abolished. The Constitution left education to the people and the states. What do you mean by "pro-education"? Are Trump and Devos anti-education? That's silly. But we shouldn't even be talking about their pro or anti education. That should strictly be a state and local issue.

What are you saying that potus doesn’t understand he can’t force the children back to class, or are you confirming the messaging from the top is dangerous and irresponsible?

Wait for the threat to withhold federal funding for states who are concerned about opening.

There should be no federal funds for education. And the federal government should quit taxing the bejesus out of everyone in the states in order to pay for the scads of programs the fed has no constitutional mandate to create.

Then the states would have enough of a not already overtaxed base to be able to tax their own citizens for the things those citizens want.

Wish we had benefactors like that, Kev.

Yes, let's get rid of her so the Dept. of Education can get back to doing its stellar job of making American public education the miracle it had become before she came on board, especially for minorities.

Seems you fail to grasp the volume of students who pass thru our public schools or how their funded staffed ect.

Clearly our system doesn't treat all school and students equally and never has. And choice is only an option to those who wish to pay for it , or the willingness to to have their child travel hours to a charter school because they can't afford to live in that area.. with good schools .. this isnt just a minority issue its a rual issues as well
But for the right its not an issue at all .. they wish to fix . Its part of their national relection theme. They can't loose the base .. whom id wager 99% went to public schools . Who clearly failed them in civics and history
