I have read a great majority of it, skimmed the last third. Agree with some views, disagree with a minor few. So why directed at me? Something I posted? Because I have never typed here about the deadly effects a now closed coal burning plant had in my very neighborhood. So I am not going to get behind your fossil fuels job losses. Some of the arguments are simply painting the whole canvas black with a broad brush. Hey, I almost felt dirty voting for a democrat in the Presidential race. Trump gave me no choice. Let me say that again; Trump gave me no choice. I had that (legal) ballot sitting on the kitchen counter for weeks! Waiting for something, a sign, anything from Trump that would allow me not to vote against him. And let's not forget, I was in the world of finance for close to 25 years. I know who controlled what with money during different administrations, ruled by different parties. Same chit happened on the other watch too, so not buying in to the Hollywood tech argument. Trump is an ass and he is showing his true colors. To his own self be true. At yours and my expense. Concede and open the White House to the victors. Let's move on. This charade is b u l l s h i t.

Because you've been profiled as someone with fairly traditional conservative beliefs yet you fail to be a Trumpist sausage eater. You're a project, someone to call to the dark side.

nightfighter 11-18-2020 04:53 PM

AND..... I have always stated that China was and remains our primary concern with regards to our economic and national security. That has not changed.

I read "The Emperor New Clothes" by Hans Christian Andersen at a very young age... It was the beginning of the lesson that my father referred to as "calling a spade a spade".

That story always reminded me of Kurt Vonnegut.

Because to me you appear to be an anti-Trumper with whom an actual intelligent, policy, and core principals discussion could be had. I had hoped for something from you other than the usual hate Trump rhetoric.

Because I have never typed here about the deadly effects a now closed coal burning plant had in my very neighborhood. So I am not going to get behind your fossil fuels job losses.

It's not "my" argument. I'm not for or against coal, especially the supposedly clean coal being used. I'm not against getting off of fossil fuels. Though, petroleum products are far more diverse than just combustion engine or other fuels. And those products are essential to our economy and our physical well being as we know it today.

Let me say that again; Trump gave me no choice. I had that (legal) ballot sitting on the kitchen counter for weeks! What was it about him that gave you no choice?

I agree, and have stated many times, that both parties are guilty of fooling us. They are comprised of politicians. Fooling us is a given. It is up to us to quit giving them more and more power to control us. Or it may come a time where they no longer have to fool us to control us.

Trump is an ass and he is showing his true colors. To his own self be true. At yours and my expense. Concede and open the White House to the victors. Let's move on. This charade is b u l l s h i t.

I am not aware of any extra expense that Trump has foisted on me. I even have less expense than I did in other administrations. His colors never seemed to be a mystery to me. He has been, as far as I can see, very transparent about who he is and what he is about. And even more so than most politicians. He has played far less a charade, it seems to me, than most politicians. One of the phoniest, charade driven politicians I have ever seen is Joe Biden. Putting him in the big seat extends his charade to new heights. And I think I will feel the bite of more expenses under the Dem policies.

It is the Dems, not Biden, that concern me. As I said over and over, for me it's not about Trump or Biden. There are some very basic principles in our system of government that are infinitely more important than either of those two.

For me, it is about maintaining what is left of our constitutional republican form of government, and getting back some of which has been lost, or totally becoming a Progressive form of an Administrative State.

I see you as a far more worthy anti-Trumper to have that discussion with than a Pete F or Spence or Got Stripers, etc. I think that if you and I seriously debated that, it could benefit all of us.

Of course, if you do not see that as an issue, then OK, it is simply that Trump is an ass. Or more of an ass than Biden. So then we can move on and nothing will basically change other than there will be less visible ass-clowning in the oval office.

For once we agree Trump has shown everyone who he is and what he cares about. Since the election the death toll is the equivalent of five 9/11 attacks and he hasn’t attended a covid briefing in months, it’s all about him and he couldn’t care less about the American lives lost since he lost or those he will likely put in danger by stalling the transition of power.

I appreciate your thought out answer and opportunity to discuss and possibly enlighten from a more centralist position than is exhibited by the legions of either side....
But I have benefitted and been benefitting through the various administrations in my two different careers and the market for my retirement plan. I don't see that I can elevate this administration to being responsible for putting me on that track. Nor has it reduced or taken away many of the obligatory increases in cost of living, licensing, and recreating (fishing license) that has been getting piled upon us since I entered adulthood in the seventies and began to be responsible for paying my own way 100%. Nobody gets the brass ring from me, and that goes back to Carter/Reagan years. What I just cannot get past is Trump's continued lying. Lying when he knows it is lying. Lying when we all know it is lying. What other pols have done or are doing does nothing to minimize this. It has been four years of shaking my head and yelling at a TV screen with disgust. If nothing else, this refusal to concede and sticking his head in the sand has taken his remarks off the TV for the most part.
Sorry, dinner is ready! Gotta go...

And, the anti-Trumpers won't have me.... that I can assure you of.

Back on track here. Biden has done nothing during his career that impresses me or even would put him into a discussion if I were asked to suggest some potentially qualified candidates. He would be hard pressed to start on the JV team. What he has is longevity. And he apparently wasn't/isn't savvy enough with tech to have gotten caught sending #^&#^&#^&#^& pics... This is a placeholder presidency IMO. He will get the hit, as will the Dems, but we ALL are going to have to pay for the year 2020, and the Stimulus checks that got Trump a lot of minority votes...(no one had done that for them before,,, right??? That was their take. Trump's name was on the check.) And COVID-19 happened... For many reasons. Most outside of the US. But it (COVID) is not something to blame on the man. Now his response.... that is up for discussion. A very lively discussion. But mark my words. We are ALL going to pay for this mess. For generations to come. But the fraudulent votes are clearly a higher priority for this administration....

I know what you mean by a political center, or centrist position, but I don't think there is actually such a thing. I don't consider myself as being in some center between the Dems and the Repubs, or between Progressivism and constitutionalism. I think there is a huge amount of different political possibilities, of possible ideas. But, being a constitutionalist, that great diversity must reside within constitutional principles and boundaries.

Any compromise between constitutional principles and the limitless government power that informs Progressive political ideology is a partial destruction of the Constitution. And any further compromise is a further destruction. And that is not just some aside in the discussion. It is the crux of the matter for me. Any compromise is merely a given position, not some center. What is the center between Dems, Repubs, Libertarians, Progressives, Socialists, Communists, and a host of other ists and isms?

What is the center between good and evil, or right and wrong--except some compromise that weakens the good and the right? And in which direction will the next compromise go? Every little bit that the good and the right give up in order to partake in some wrong or evil, will make the good and right less so. And every compromise between the Constitution and Progressive ideology makes the Constitution less so. Until it is gone.

But I get that things change. There may well come a time when the Constitution is a barrier to the progress that our evolved society needs in order to work for what is truly the best.

I don't think we are there yet. And what is trying to take the Constitution's place is, to me, a regression back to the age old ruling class control of authoritarian government.

What constantly intrudes on us, and on a free market that would benefit your investments, is the capture of our government and its regulatory agencies by huge monopolistic corporations. These are made possible by complicit politicians who profit from it and by Progressive ideologues who believe they are doing what is best for us by controlling the market rather than protecting its freedom.

What I just cannot get past is Trump's continued lying. Lying when he knows it is lying. Lying when we all know it is lying. What other pols have done or are doing does nothing to minimize this. It has been four years of shaking my head and yelling at a TV screen with disgust. I am also frustrated that Trump has to comment on every little thing. Sometimes his comments are actually lies. Mostly they are exaggerations, errors, sarcasm, and self congratulation--as well as, not infrequently, being spot on. And I understand his self-promotion. I think he IS unfairly not given due credit. He has gotten done what Repubs kept telling us what they were going to do, but somehow just weren't able. He has not been a do nothing President, and, in my opinion, most of what he has done has been good. If he would just have shut up and do, it would have been better. And a lot less irritating.

But I am far more annoyed by weak incompetent lying politicians who promise then renege. And I totally despise Progressivism.

Well, it needn't have been a mess. On the other hand, politics requires that it be a mess. His administration, throughout and before its term, was fought with far more than the usual political jabs and lies. And there was little to none of the usual opposing ideas for supposedly making it all right. Just criticism and opposition, and investigation, and impeachment. I don't recall such a vicious opposition, including a complicit anti-Trump Press. It is amazing that he accomplished as much as he did. If he had acted in the usual fake politically correct demeanor and verbiage of typical politicians, and just went about his business, it would have been a lot better. But it still would have been the same results. Maybe if he had shut up, he may have gotten a bit more help from the Repubs.

As for lively discussions about his response to covid, I had a lot with Pete F. All were welcome, but few participated. I pointed out how Pete's major criticisms were unsubstantiated accusations. The last one re Trump not following the "playbook" was a bit lively.
