Best Gaming System for kids

Hi All,
I am about to break down and purchase a gaming system for the kids, as much as it pains me to do so. I have no clue about the merits of the different systems so hopefully some of you can guide me???

Here are some variables. My kids are 7 and under, with Lego Star Wars being about as adventurous as they get. They will NOT be using a HD TV. I don't need the ability to use the system online or with BluRay movies, it will be dedicated to the kids.

I have heard that PS2 is fine for my needs and that PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii are really for HD graphics. Is this true?

Are games still developed for PS2 or are they no longer available?

Any guidance is appreciated!!

:hihi:

on a more serious note for the post as he did ask a legit question. I know the Wii systems are pretty kid friendly, my 4 year old nephew uses it and loves the think....andthe Wii bowling is pretty addictive too.

the Wii is probably your best bet, PS 2 is outdated and they will phase out production of games eventually. Wii is geared toward younger kids and Nintendo still does have the Mario games which are always fun.

Still plenty of games currently being made for PS2. Save your money if those are the type of games they're into. that's the one my grandson uses.

I have a PS3 and a WII. for the kids Wii is tough to beat, and also tough to find. My 3 yo loves the fishing, golf, target shooting and bowling games.

The PS 3 will work on any tv, it does not have to be HD.

I would go with the Wii just cause it keeps the kids active and not just sitting there like couch potatoes. :)

We have the Wii for our two girls, ten and seven. It does not have to be HD as we don't have it yet. My wife and I also like to play with the girls using the Wii. The Mario carts are a lot of fun - various car races. The kids also like the sports games - bowling, tennis, baseball, archery, fishing, etc. There is an exercise game available and I think a dance game. I think some other games work with the Wii but I don't know if you need other hardware to make them work. As someone else mentioned some games really get them moving. I saw that the Bourne Community Center bought one for the seniors!
