canal mini hawgs

After seeing how good the Cordell's caught last year and making a decent amount of large hawgs already I decided to make some medium and small heavy ones around the size of the cotton's. These are for distance and weigh between 2.4 and 2.7 in the small ones and 3 oz in the medium ones. in the first pic you can see the normal size I make then the med., which I already use, and the small ones I made this past winter. Some assorted patterns, pink mac being my fav., in the next pics. If was going to fish these else where I would probably just put less weight in them. I 'm just about done building for the year with some new spooks and some more conrads needing epoxy. Then its time to start getting the boat ready.

great looking candy there:bgi:

numbskull 03-26-2009 06:06 PM

Your's are nicer, but I've got a bunch of something similar.....only based on a overweighted Gibbs 1.5 oz pencil (juiced to 2.7oz).... waiting for paint. Probably means the fish will only want rubber eels this year.

new jack 03-26-2009 06:06 PM

freakin awsome!!! i love pencils and those sir are freakin awsome.

PNG 03-26-2009 06:51 PM

1.5oz works nice as well, matches tinkers

Great job, consistent strips on the mackeral. Been doing alot of strips myself but can' seem to get the consistance down. I'm using the eclipse. tends to start clogging on the second plug, spray at about 20 psi createx paint slow and steady. First one great, then over spray Do you thin the paint or clean the tip between plugs? Any tricks thanks!

Diggin Jiggin 03-27-2009 05:48 AM

Paul thats great stuff. Love the squid ones too. I did as well with the squid as with the macs last year...

LT. DAN 2 03-27-2009 06:29 AM

Paul,

I see gardening and plug making are 2 of your strong suits.
GREAT looking plugs!

Is it too early to spray the blueberry bushes?

fishing bum wannabe 03-27-2009 07:22 AM

Paul

I was checking out the mackerel pattern and realized they are very consistent. What are you using for a mask and how are you using it?

ThrowingTimber 03-27-2009 07:26 AM

beauties all of 'em is it May yet?

Mr. Sandman 03-27-2009 07:44 AM

See your gear up for the mac run again....

Nice job on the squid paint job. What technique did you use to get the specking?

keeperreaper 03-27-2009 08:49 AM

Paul Amazing works of art. I wish I was half as good at anything as you are at the craft.

Mr. Krinkle 03-27-2009 09:02 AM

Damn those look great! I know its simple but I love the yellow one. Great job!!!!!!!!!

ProfessorM 03-27-2009 04:11 PM

Thanks guys you are all too kind. answer a few questions. Big D I make a template for mack s. I am a paint sprayer not an artist. You may want to get a brush with a finer needle for that technique.
Mr. Sandman to get the spackle as you call it I dip a small paint brush in the color I want and then hold up in front of plug and blow on it with a straw. Never had much luck getting what I wanted with an airbrush for the heavy spackle colors. Just be careful of the spit that forms in the straw after all that blowing.:hihi: Don from afterhours was my inspiration for the pattern. His squid pattern always impressed me.
Matt the way you locate and catch Tuna I am sure if you put your mind to it you would be very good at plugbuilding.

Brasilva 03-27-2009 08:48 PM

cableguy 04-03-2009 04:53 PM
