Earned his Tenderfoot rank and 2nd & 3rd Merit Badges last week in Scouts. He was also elected Patrol Leader for his Patrol, The Secret Squirrel Squad (which has some significance that only a handful will know). Very proud of this kid.

Any Rank can be a patrol leader....its up to the boys who they want.

Some troops may set down Guidelines for leadership, but it is not a BSA Requirement.

The only requirement our troop has is that to be the Senior Patrol Leader you need to be a 1st Class scout and to be the Assistant Senior Patrol Leader you need to be a 2nd Class Scout...after that all leadership positions are open to all ranks

fishbones 07-25-2012 11:02 AM

Congrats to Liam on a great accomplishment! Mom and Dad must be very proud.

The Iceman 6 07-25-2012 11:10 AM

Congrats Liam, and congrats to you to John. I know you do a lot with the Scouts and it must be time consuming.

Saltheart 07-25-2012 11:51 AM

Congrats to Liam!

I was also surprised to hear a tenderfoot could not only be a Patrol Leader but was allowed to work on Merit badges.

Back in 10 BC when I was a scout they were strict about a tenderfoot did nothing but work on becoming a second class then a second class put all efforts into being a first class. Then to become a Star Scout you had to earn 5 merit badges and have leadership experience , thus you tried to become a Patrol Leader.

Anyway , he's well on his way if he has 3 merit badges already. I predict First Class Scout in 1 year from now! :)

Sounds good!

Tenderfoot is an early rank for a Patrol Leader but it just shows that the other Scouts must respect him as a leader. Great life lessons!

Our Troop recently returned from a week at camp where we successfully defended our championship in the camp-wide relay and our 30 Scouts earned over 60 merit badges during the week.

On Sunday, I leave with a crew of 8 older Scouts and 4 Dads for Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico, for 11 days of backpacking and mountain adventure.

Good times! :kewl:

Is that Camp Bell? The green tin roof looks familiar.

You should be proud....it's good to see youth spending time learning that hard work will lead to reward...congratulations to both of you!

Keep him on track! That is great!

The only thing my wayward son has earned this summer is an OUI......

BMEUPSCOTTY 07-26-2012 03:35 PM

:btu: That's awesome!! Congrats to Liam, and kudos to you dads that put in all that time with scouting. It can be tough (for the kids) to stick with it when the peer pressure of the hormone years kick in, but the kids that do inevitably turn out to be winners in life. Nothing like having the last laugh... nobody picks on an Eagle Scout. :)

3 fluids that keep a boy from becoming an Eagle Scout:

Alcohol
Gasoline
Perfume
