Cuba and Obama The Weak

I have no issue with normalizing relations, in the hope that we can push them in the right direction. Here's what I don't like. There is a female cop killer from NJ who was convicted, escaped, and fled to Cuba long ago. She was welcomed there, granted asylum, and is still there, living free.

Now, if I am the POTUS, and Cuba is begging for improved relations (which they need a helluva lot more than I do), I say to Castro, "sure, we can talk about lifting embargos, we can talk about building an embassy, as soon as that cop-killing bitch is back in our custody."

WHY CAN'T HE EVER TALK TOUGH TO THESE PEOPLE? Can you imagine how the family of the slain officer feels?

Jim in CT 03-21-2016 10:13 PM

In one lifetime we went from "Mr. Gorbachev, TEAR DOWN THIS WALL" to "Mr. Castro, is there anything else you dislike about us?"
How could this oh to hell with it

Sea Dangles 03-21-2016 10:15 PM

I understand that there are many reasons why this could be construed as another blunder. I do believe that it will eventually be perceived as Obamas best decision over 8 years.

In all seriousness, WHY isn't it a better move, to demand that they turn this terrorist over first? She's on the FBIs most wanted list, she executed a NJ state trooper. Does that matter, or not?

I don't get it Dangles. I just don't get it. How would you feel, if that dead cop was your father? I know we have to deal with bad people, that's the unfortunate reality of running the country. But Jesus, this is low-hanging fruit. They gave asylum to a wanted terrorist who is on the FBIs most wanted list.

I don't get it.

"I do believe that it will eventually be perceived as Obamas best decision over 8 year"

I don't dispute that. So far, his best decision was stepping on a rake on the front lawn that flew up and hit him in the head. So it's not all that hard to top that.

Sometimes you have to focus on the big picture. You have a point, but I still think history will look upon this favorably.

I agree with your statement but only because his other foreign policy decisions were so off base . Kinda a perspective thing 😊

Watch Obama's lecture today. We went from almost no relations to the sitting POTUS speaking publicly in Cuba that they have same rights to information and free speech as we do...This wouldn't be happening if something wasn't in the works...

Why groundbreaking? We won't get anything out of it, hopefully this gives them a nudge in the right direction.

I have zero issues with normalizing relations with them, as long as the people there get a bit more freedom. My point Spence, and I am right, is that they have only one thing we could demand, and it costs them NOTHING to give her to us. So why can't he, just one time, act from a position of strength and tell them they they can stay in the dark until they decide to stop harboring terrorists. Do you know anything about this case? I'm not speculating here, the woman was convicted.

He's such a puss...

We will end up with nothing as a nation and several large companies with the right connections will score a sweet deal. 0 for taxpayers 1 for the cronies that use democRAT connections to eliminate competition.

Sweet Jesus Jim, the opportunity to free 12 million people from the chains of communism at no cost and we get nothing from it?

I think Reagan just rolled in his grave.

well...if Obama can lower the ocean levels, I guess freeing Cuba from the bonds of Communism should be a breeze.....:rotf2:

Did you know Cuba has some of the best doctors in the world? Also Cuba has one of the highest literary rates in the world? This country would be much better off if it was flooded with excellent doctors willing to work for less. Is this called free market socialism ? Hmm

I do hear you, I really do. But how does it hurt the 'big picture', if we make this demand? In other words, WHAT'S THE DOWNSIDE of telling Castro that nothing happens until we have this woman back in custody? Can anyone answer that? Is Cuba going to wage war if we ask them to turn her over?

When that happens, and that's a long way off, THAT will be groundbreaking. And of course, I sincerely hop ethat happens. And I give Obama credit for trying to get the ball rolling, I do.

But can you answer a simple question? What would be the downside if he told Castro, "nohting happens until we get this cop killer back in our custody. If you want to be embraced by the civilized nations, you need to stop acting uncivilized, and if you want OUR help in coming out of the dark, you can show you good faith by giving us this terroriist back. If you want us to treat you like an ally, you cannot provide refuge to those who murder our police officers."

Spence, how does that derail what he's trying to do?

I'm not saying ignore the 'big picture'. I just don't get why trying to make progress for Cubans, and getting this terrorist back, are mutually exclusive. If Cuba is asking for help, that puts us in a uniquely strong position from which to negotiate her return. But that requires a modicum of balls, and a modicum of giving a sh*t about the dead cop's family. Naturallly, the disciple of Reverand Wright and Bill Ayers isn't concerned when a black radical executes a white police officer. If it was the other way around, perhaps then he would give a rat's you-know-what.

Did you know that in Cuba you could post the opposite of this and then get jailed? Every one of us that posts here, even Spence the Chekist, would do jail time for posting our political views. Well, we would if there was Internet, but that is only available to the Socialist Elite, those that are born into or pay fealty, and parrot the Party line.

Did you know that in Cuba, Taxi drivers get paid the same as Doctors? Socialist Dream.

What the f*** are you talking about? You are relying on Michael Moore's highly panned film to make that claim? Yeah, that's why sick Americans are all risking their lives to get to Cuba.

Nebe 03-23-2016 08:40 AM

I'm relying on my gift of prediction. Give it a couple of years and you'll see.

I also have a mild hunch not as strong as the doctor thing, that we might Give Guantanamo back to Cuba and have them them manage it. This would for furful Obama's campaign pledge to close Guantánamo and kick the can over to Cuba to deal with the prisoners.
Maybe.....
