What line are you guys using?

I have a extra rod and reel kicking around I might as well put it to use on the boat next season to sling eel's.
The rod is a 6' 6" penn slammer medium action 1-4 oz,the reel is a penn squidder that I have not used in over 10 years,so I am a little out of touch on what line to load on.
In the olden days I used to use 45#squidding line:confused:

40 or 50 # Fireline. Or Spiderwire Stealth.

best line

this year stren came out with a new braid that is supposed to be better than power pro (we'll see).

Braid is not necessary with using eels, load that reel with 30lb berkley big game and you will be fine.

Good Luck and Tight Lines,

When using eels you definitelt want to use braid because of its sensitivity. You WILL hook up more and lose less fish with braid. If you ar worried about snagging use a 30 or 40 lb leader if using 50-65 pound braid.

For a Squidder, I would use 30# mono.:btu:

And I'd fill it up with 65lb or heavier braid, your choice of brand as conventional are a lot less fussy than spinners.

PP is what i use.

OffTheHook13 03-29-2008 02:19 PM

Braid=Power Pro 50Lb
Mono=Ande

OLD GOAT 03-29-2008 02:36 PM

I have the same rig and i use 20 or 30lb pink ande on mine. You can put the rest of your money in the bank.

Jnatti 03-29-2008 04:08 PM

30lb power pro here

I use mono on all of my bait rods I use quattro 30 lb. test I only use braid for plugging braid is too pricey when those eels start balling up and you start cutting the braid off everytime that happens.

mikecc 12-09-2008 07:26 AM

I use Power Pro 30-50 depending on the conditions.
I was going to try Sufix but they took a huge price increase this year when Rapala bought them out. IMO it is not worth what they are charging.

basswipe 12-10-2008 07:29 PM

20lb Ande BackCountry.Nothing else will do.

Roger 12-10-2008 09:09 PM

I'm kinda partial to mono for eeling and live lining and have settled on Ande Backcountry for the last few years. I use braid for just about everything else.

mizzle 12-14-2009 11:44 PM

30 lbs pp

Zeal 12-15-2009 01:54 PM

20-30lb power pro braid on the caster, 30lb mono on the meat stick

Raven 12-15-2009 03:24 PM

same as TIGER

HEY BABE,,,,do you like to play with balls as much as i do? :heybaby:

Backbeach Jake 12-15-2009 07:21 PM

30# PP 710z for plugging small, medium stuff.
50-65#PP 704zs for canal jigging, bait, and heavy tins and plugs. Been thinking that's overkill, might drop to 20 AND 40#

sokinwet 12-17-2009 11:42 AM

Keep in mind that the Squidder is not made for braid. With a max drag of maybe 8 lbs. before you start stripping gears and rounding off the gear shaft and with the "shock" that braid can put on a reel I'd opt for mono. If you need a little extra casting distance, line capacity or sensitivity I'd go with a braid friendly newer reel.
