Diggin Jiggin 03-08-2006 07:34 PM

They need 4 oz of lead in the nose and then they'll be great.:grins:

They look great. Next year I may be asking you some questions. After seeing how many sluggo's I went thru in the ditch at 4$+ a pack, my wife suggested I make my own... No time to learn how this spring, but I'll try it next winter year for sure...

Striperhound 03-08-2006 07:51 PM

it took a while. I have a formal art school education, so i put what i learned in bronze casting and jewery casting classes to work on this. I dont know anyone else casting rubber baits to ask questons to, so i might have made things way too complicated than they have to be, but i am very happy with my results.

basicly in a nutshell, you make a model and make molds off of your model. Its very tricky and requires insane patience.

glad you guys like them. :bl:

diggin jiggin, i am going to make an eel pretty soon with a weighted head, but in the mean time i am just going to decapitate my eels and glue the shoulders onto a bullet head.

Nice Work

Nebe - what did you make the mold out of ? I like the colors - Black in the ditch at night and green off the sandbar near pips rip at daybreak!! Ouch just burned a spot :jump:

Does the plastic generate heat curing ?? How much ?? Can you make the mold out of silicone ??

Nebe 03-08-2006 09:18 PM

you can make a mold out of anything..
The rubber is friggin nasty stuff and you need a resporator, a good exhaust hood, and a place where you dont mind making a huge mess. its toxic too. Im only able to do this because i just happen to have the perfect fan/hood setup for my real business. in a nutshell dont try this at home unless you want to die over time.

NIB 03-08-2006 10:57 PM

Over time I'll probably die.

I am waiting for the post: "Coming to a tackle shop near you!"
:hee:

Mr. Sandman 03-09-2006 08:18 AM

Have you seen the material that Berkley uses for thier "Gulp!" baits?
It is some kind of salt based product I think, not plastic. I got a bunch of them last year and they are pretty good. They have been empregnated with a strong scent too. (Just an idea for the next generation after you master mass production)

reelecstasy 03-09-2006 08:45 AM

Those are sweet
