greasing a Penn Z reel

I read the enclosed link, have to try the blue grease. I do however have 2 questions regarding the Penn 704. First, has anyone encountered any problems with having too much grease around the anti-reverse dog. In the past I have had to remove grease from here in order to get the anti-reverse to work. It was a red grease that could have been too thick, maybe. Second where can you get the HT 100 drag washers???? I really wish that Penn would come up with an infinite anti-reverse upgrade for the Z series.

You should be able to buy the washers at most good tackle shops that carry Penn products. They are the stock replacement washers for the 704. I never ran into a problem with the Super Lube getting too thick around the anit-revers dog. Your grease may have been too thick to begin with, or it thickened up in the cold.

I will try superlube or the blue grease.

Has anyone tried the surfcaster grease??????

I've read from a post regarding the teflon super lube, it was stated that the grease oozed from the side plate after some specified time of use of the reel. Therefore, I'm leaning towards the marine blue grease until I hear of a better solution.

I never had the super lube ooze out on mine. I had a black 706 almost over packed with grease, sitting in the sun on the roof of my truck, and nothing leaked. your mileage may varry, though...

I also own a 704 which has been partially "VS'd" and I've also packed it with superlube to quiet the clicker and converted it to manual bail.All that remains is to pop its cherry this spring.

I've sat and cranked it a million times literally this winterand its still quiet and nothing is oozing and everything stiil works.That's really not saying much until its seen a full season of hard fishing,but I have complete confidence.

TLap, any idea on pics and discusion on VS'ing a 704Z? Want to consider the pros and cons.....
