Love the Europe 72 album! I don't know if you use spotify, but it is loaded with live Dead. All the #^&#^&#^&#^&'s Picks etc. Amazing.

Also, wanted to let you know I found one of your weighted needles wedged in a boulder field this fall. Green over pearly white with a red eye. It had been there a while so I swapped out the hardware. What a fantastic job you do. It hung on my xmas tree with a few other green ones and is still hanging in my living room. Really beautiful work.

rphud 02-21-2015 07:44 AM

Wu Tang...cool.

Since Kind of Blue and the Brothers are Filmore East are already posted, I will go with Thelonious Monk – Genius of Modern Music vol.1 & 2. Just to be different, I would add Inner Mounting Flame by Mahavishnu Orchestra. If I don't stop there it would be another 20 to 30 or so.

Clash and Greetings from Asbury Park have to be mentioned.....must.......stop......

if you think about it....
your most favorite music
is somehow linked to a special time in your life
so that when you hear it ....it takes you there

Greatest album of all time

NO SUCH THING.
Need to atleast break it down in to type of music. (rock, country, pop, Jazz, Classical ect...)
Even at that it's all personal opinion.

You know you're right of course. For years with me my entire teen and early twenties I listened to the Dead and Phish followed em around etc. It wasn't until my late twenties I really started listening to music. As opposed to listening between seeing shows.

I now listen a little more critically I suppose. I hear it more for what it is. I Have a better understanding for time key etc. On the level of the individual song composition and as an album compilation as a whole. That's why I choseAbbey Rd. You almost have to listen to it from the first note to the last to have an appreciation of the album as a whole.

Ronnie is right its a tough call....impossible! So I will attack it from this angle........if I am stranded on a desert island with only 1 album....I would have to choose either......Cream "Wheels of Fire" or Allman Brothers "Live at the Fillmore East"! Hold a gun to my head I would have to go with Cream!

1991 Metallica

Raider Ronnie 02-23-2015 12:52 PM

My OPINION
Brian Wilson / Beach Boys Pet Sounds is the greatest album.
if you believe Rolling Stone list, they have it #2 behind the Beatles Sgt. Pepper
I put Brian Wilson ahead of the Beatles for the reason Beatles had 2 great and 1 very good song writer but George Martin was the genius in the studio.
Beach Boys were all and nothing without Brian Wilson.

I going with Zeppelin IV (a.k.a. "Zoso")
and then GNR Appetite for Destruction

MikeD 02-23-2015 02:38 PM

Appetite and Metallica black album are great calls too! Those were out when I was in High School so that speaks to Raven's post about zipping you back to a special time. My Michelle and Rocket Queen by G n' R still get me fired up to this day.

This thread has me thinking way too much about this topic. I used to have a cassette in my old car that had one side live Hendrix and one side live Otis Redding that was fantastic. I think it was from a Monterey show. I need to go find that on Spotify.

AC DC Back in Black

Slipknot 02-23-2015 09:59 PM

nobody said Frampton Comes Alive haha:D

lots to choose from but I thought you can only say one

Larry, you should have gone with the Brothers

the Beach Boys were awesome, (in their time)

Not talking about the surf or car music.
Pet sounds was the work of Genius. The album Smile was to an even higher level but drugs and mental illness cut it short.
