Caught in the Act

Well wouldn't you know it, today I am in one of my stands, and waiting for this guy that Canalratt saw heading my direction to push some deer. After about 40 minutes still no guy. I ask Tony if he was sure of this guy's direction and he was heading toward another stand I had... So finally I hear someone walking in front of me and I see his hat and he is having a hell of a time getting through the woods. I see he has a climbing stand slung over his shoulder along with his gun. He is about 70 yards in front of me and crossing left to right, he doesn't see me, nor did he see Tony earlier. As I am looking at him I am thinking that looks like my stand. I call Tony and ask him , "Did that guy have a stand in his back" He says no I didn't see one. This guy came from a section of the woods, that no one hunts but us, it is so far from the parking lot, and tucked in behind some houses that no one goes there. SO I get down and run to my other stand, and sure enough it's gone, it was there last night , gone now. So I call Tony to let him know, and myself and a friend race up to the parking lot. Two guys are loading a doe in the truck, so I ask if they had seen someone come out with a tree stand they said no. They had been there 25 minutes, and we hot there in like 10. So we told them what happened and they had 2 trucks, so that left a van, and another pickup truck. While we were at the lot, Tony walked the woods out to where I last saw the guy, and then followed the trail out to the fields, he called ad said I can't find him. So now we are think like is he using the thing, what's the story? So Tony is walking back to his stand on the path to get something, when he hears some branches snapping . He swings his head and bam there is the guy. Tony yells up to him hey, and the guy is like , you see any deer? So Tony says no, and walks over to him.. Tony then asks him what car in the lot is his, and the guy tells him. Tony then says Where did you get the stand? The guy tells him he found it on the road, so Tony says no you didn't you found it on a tree over there by the houses. The guy basically gives up, and Tony says give the stand, the fields are that way, get the #^&#^&#^&#^& out of here and never come back and I wont call the cops. So the guy ( Who was lost) gives him the stand and heads for the fields. In the meant time he calls me to tell me he has the stand. So we called the cops, they came took all of the info from me, observed the stand, which we verified was mine, and then they ran his plate and pulled his license picture so Tony could verify it was the guy, and it was. The guy is from Yarmouth, he was up in Norton, he has surf rod holders on the front of his truck so he is obviously a striper guy too. The cops were not going to wait for him to come out of the woods, so they are going to summons him in, notify the EPO's, and notify the chief in Yarmouth. Maybe the EPO can strip him of his hunting and fishing privileges. Who knows?

Finally the good guys win

This story wouldn't be nearly as exciting if you all weren't armed.

Funny thing is I unloaded and put my gun in the truck, Tony only had a muzzleloader, one shot and done, the guy had a semi auto shotgun... See an armed society can get along without shooting everyone up... :uhuh:

even your carry piece? :D

sounds like a potentially bad situation that was handled well

Well done!

Sure, there's that feeling of letting the jerk know exactly how you feel and giving him a sound thrashing, but if the police and the EPO follow through, he will have to deal with legal remfifcations that may be more costly in the long run.

Maybe there have been other "related events" he may be guilty of???

At the very least you got tour stuff, you got the bad guy and it only cost you a little time!
