justplugit 12-13-2006 07:17 PM

Stax, except for the two guys who got killed, that's a funny story. :rotf2::rotf3: :rotf2:

!800 cans of beer for 15 people. :btu:

Great that you can live the kind of fishing you do while most of us can just dream about it. :hihi: :)

Thanks for sharing all this. :D

BTW- good to have you guys as our Allies over the years. :btu:

Hi Jen, yep there is a toilet there now. It was put there only about a few years back.

Years ago everyone used to take a walk up onto the hill pictured below and it would be a funny site while fishing the cliff and looking back to the hill and seeing people "snapping one %$%$%$%$ up on the hill haha.

That toilet on the hill has the best scenery than any other toilet in the world lol

Its still a rough spot o go for a week for most girls. Iv only ever seen a couple of girls over the years there because of the heat and no showers etc. You can take a wash down the beach and use salt water soap etc to refreash :)

I took my Ex up there and she loved it until the last couple days and couldnt wait to get home to have a shower and get back to the normal life

This was a big bait i was saving to the steep point trip.
I balooned ot out and it got wolluped by somethin that was 15ft+ from what we seen. Must of been a tiger shark. I didnt stand a chance. It bit through a double of 120pound wire trace with ease.

This is a pic of False entrance....

Here is a pic of pretty much all the area you have to fish at False entrance.
Not much room and you can see how the rocks are.See how the swell is coming across? Its very hard to gaff here!

http://img68.imageshack.us/img68/228...ntrance2px.jpg

This next pic you can see from a gaff mans view.
Hard to gaff and you wouldnt want to fall.
This is where the bloke fell and landed on the ledge below with lots of broken bones and waited for helicoptert from denam.

Absolutely the best thread of the year. After reading the posts and seeing the pictures, I would love to schedule a trip there someday.:walk:

ChiefLinesider 12-14-2006 02:23 AM

Yeah this is the greatest subject ive ever witnessed. I could look at new pictures all winter. & read stories.:btu: It looks like your going to see a terradactyl fly by at any time. That place is how I would have imagined things looked millions of years ago. And you've gone back in time with modern fishing gear.

I'll bet you would like the RI coast! when a storm is coming in 20 foot waves are crashing and were out there on the back side of the light houses were its some what safe, hooking Stripers and blues cast after cast after cast! in the day time only. after dark would be a death sentence! keep the pics coming!

20 foot waves? On the RI Coast? Other than in the teeth of a hurricane - When? Dood - they got us beat on the full contact fishing. Anyone who needs to pinch one over a cliff donning a homemade-rope harness further tied to the 4x4 has my respect as an intense angler. Even the skishers gotta have some respect on that :hee:

Marc - great pics and stories! It is even better as this is our winter about to come on and we've already had some 20 degree mornings (-5 to you).

Roadtrip!

Very interesting stuff. Nice to see the rest of the world has fishermen as crazed as around here. I'm curious, though, what other kinds of beach/shore fishing do you have along the WA coast? Can a guy get home from work, eat his dinner, and head out for 2-3 hours of closeby easy access fishing? Do you fish at night? What do you catch? Is a boat neccessary? Long casts? Bait or plugs? How long a season? Thanks for the pictures and chance to dream.

I think the best thread ever deserves to be a "sticky" :humpty:

piemma 12-14-2006 04:26 PM

I just took the time to read this entire thread. has to be the best we have had on the site yet.
I get to Australia about once a year on business. Usually Sydney. Next year I will plan my trip for a stop by in Perth.

onecastmike2003 12-14-2006 05:48 PM

2 minutes from the best fishing on the coast. drive up to the water get out, grab rod from the truck, whip a popper out there 150 yards or so.
2 pops later a 35 lber grabs it and he,s on. this can go on all night some times. You can wade in deep and the fish are behind ya. RI has the best fishing on the east coast! But we don,t drink in 6 foot waves and strong surge in the dark. Next year will be better.
Keep the pics coming!

"Bloke" is a slang term for "man," much like "guy" or "dude." :)

Hi Numbskull,

Yep i live only 20 min from the beach and often get home frrom work and head down the beach and catch a feed of fish at the entrance to our harbour.

There is a location called penguin island only 30-40 min south of Perth.
Its an Island that at low tide you can acually walk to the island in water knee deep! and yes there are penguins on there.
If you dont want to walk across you can take the ferry across for $10 Aust return

The last 4-5 times iv been iv caught 5-6 King George Whiting each time :) These fish are one of the best eating fish in Australia!

Here is some pics of this island and what i caught.

You can see the sandbar in the background and how you can walk across in in knee deep water to the shore on the mainland.

I must remind all that Steep point is along way from Perth but you could allways organise your trip from Perth and hire 4wd etc but i would seek all advise on how to get to Steep point /safty and what you need to survive off www.steeppoint.com.au before you get over here

GattaFish 12-14-2006 08:08 PM

For starters sun block, water and a portable A/C unit since 40-50C is 104 to 122 degrees F,,, Still would be worth it,,,,

There is another location only 20-30min drive north called Yanchep lagoon.

Its called Lagoon because the Reef is about 20 out and it forms a lagoon of shellow water thats really nice and safe for kids or novise snorklers to wade.

If you walk through the lagoon then up onto the reef you can get some nice fish. To be honest i havnt fished here much because the first time i went there a BIG wave washed me off the reef and into the lagoon haha Here are a couple of pics..

BTW those fish are what we call here in Aust "Herring" Different from the Herring you have over there

So if you take one of those herring, still alive, put a hook in it, walk out to the edge of that reef, throw it out there, in the dark.........what besides a shark might you get?

JohnR 12-14-2006 09:16 PM

Marc - that's bait!

What bigger fish can you get close to home?

And is there a time to fish Steep Point when it isn't 140 degrees? Maybe more like 80 degrees? Some of our best fishing is in our Fall and sometimes the snot wants to freeze on your face :bl:

Exacty what iv been thinkin! I might try that soon.
I would think that a big mulloway or during or after a big storm you might get a nice snapper or even a huge sampson fish but to be honest off the shore around Perth there arnt alot of big fish to be caught.
Its best to travel 50klm+ north or 50klm south+ to do well.
Perth is inbetween the hot tropical water and the cold southern water so its not as good as up north or down south but its good for alot of other smaller fish though
