Old Time B&W movies
 

I haven't watched a newly released movie in over ten years, and I don't get cable, so I rarely watch any movies at all. But I do like movies from the 1930s and 40s. I get them on DVD from the library - luckily my library is part of a network, so most movies are available from at least one town's system. I've gone through the Charlie Chan series twice now, and eventually I'll do it again. Same with Sherlock Holmes and any other mystery movies I can find. For some reason, I love the atmosphere those movies had, and now I find that color turns me off - I'd really rather see most movies in B&W.

Same with horror movies. I love the old-time movies, but I have no interest in watching some guy saw his own leg off. That's not horror, it's just gross-out.

Not an old time movie but check out Young Frankenstein its black &white.

Me and the Family Watched Arsenic and Old Lace the other night.....awesome flick.....thats one you should definitely check out.

I'm a huge fan of the old movies, Can't go wrong w/ any Abbott and Costello flicks or The Marx Brothers.

If you want something bad to laugh at...anything by Ed Wood (Actually the Tim Burton flick "Ed Wood" is awesome)

Go Silent....there were some great silent pics made that nobody checks out anymore

What a great cast of actors.

I cant watch Nosferatu. That freking thing scares the crap out of me. i can handle any horror movie but not that one.

When he rises out of the coffin....truly a chilling scene

Classic Cinemas Online dot com has quite a few streaming movies that are out of copyright.

Both the Mr Moto with Peter Lorre and Mr Wong with Boris Karloff are pretty good crime mysteries if you like that sort of thing. Funny how guys known for horror movies both played Asians in detective films.

The B&W horror films they made during the 1950s and early '60s were often pretty good, even if they look pretty cheesy now. I grew up with them on television, so I have a taste for them. One of the scariest movies of my childhood was Invaders from Mars. A boy sees a space ship come down near his house, and people are gradually taken over by aliens. People joke about the rubber alien suits now, but it scared the crap out of me at the time.


I did like Young Frankenstein. There's some movies that really need color, but plenty could be done in black and white and be at least as good if not better. When you take out color, you make things less real and more dramatic.

Marx Bros!!

If you want a great Peter Lorre flick get "M"....a very powerful flick about a Child Murderer.....probably his best film. It is in German w/ subtitles but it is an amazing film.

Its by Fritz Lang who also did Metropolis, which is another amazing film. It a Silent Film based on George Orwell's 1984....Fritz Lang was like the Steven Spielberg of the 20's

I loved the Mr. Moto flicks when I was younger....:kool:

If you get a chance check out Shadow of the Vampire.

Its about the making of Nosferatu. Its based on the legend that Max Schreck ,who played the vampire, was in actuality a real vampire.

John Malkovich plays FW Murnau and Willem DaFoe plays Max Schreck and its a pretty good flick.

Got it on DVD Bob! One of my favs with 2 of my favs...The Duke and Jimmy Stewart with a Lee Marvin kicker!! Old westerns are my favorite!!

One movie I had just never seen before was on the other night so I sat down and watched "The Defiant Ones" with Tony Curtis and Sidney Poitier!!!! Great movie!!

I think that was one of my past Recomendations :hee:....that is a great movie

Surprised I had never caught it before Kev? I am always watching the old classics! They don't make many truly great movies these days!
