Archery season

With it just around the corner how many have been out scouting? I saw a real nice one this morning in a field near last years stand. I can't wait.

I'll be out this afternoon, they put a gate up at last years spot. Picked up a new to me McPherson bow on Saturday and have been shooting like a madman to get ready. I was more confident in this bow after 20 shots than I was in my old bow. This is only my 2nd archery season and I have some time off to hunt this year so I have high hopes.

Great scouting today, I love finding piles of crap in the woods, does that make me wierd?

TheSpecialist 09-11-2006 09:48 PM

I can't drive by a field without stopping traffic to check it out.

Crash the spot you are talking about, is it around Charles st. ?

I live in Abington, and have scouted some places around here.

I went out last night with a spot light in the field near my house and low and behold 4 deer eating until their hearts content. That field is very close to my stand. I can't wait for this to start.

Have a nice 65-70 # tree stand bow, made by Proline. Camo taped, nice wood underneath. Cam bow and I can't remember what the let off is. Attached arrow quiver. Cross hair site, release, 31" draw. Have extra arrows, tips fletching. Haven't shot it in years. This isfor a right hander. Can take some photos if needed.

Oct. 16th is just around the corner:claps: Have had as many as 18 in the food plots at a time over the last few weeks but the acorns are dropping now and they will be more in the woods then in the fields the next few weeks. Checked out 4 stands yesterday that I left in last winter and all had great sign under and all around them. Just planted another field last night about 1/4 acre with winter rye and alfa-rack to catch the rain do in today. Have any of you used the lumenok lighted nocks? I hunted last season with someone that used them and found them to be GREAT. With a pass through shot you can find your arrow in seconds to see what kind of a hit you got. Also if not a pass through you can see the deer run off for a much longer distance also they stay lit for up to 40 hours makeing it easy to find a downed animal.

TheSpecialist 09-14-2006 07:46 AM

Greg those sound awsome, do you charge them with a flashlight ?

crash 09-14-2006 08:59 AM

Reedys has em, I may try them this year. Lithium battery stays lit for 40 hours.

GBOUTDOORS 09-14-2006 05:54 PM

Bill as Crash said they have a lithium bat. and light only after you shoot. The nock is pushed in and that turns the light on. They come three in a pack and replace your regular nocks. I have tried them and they work great your arrow looks like a laser light headed to its mark. I have shot them in the cellar at my indoor target and they are unreal. All you do if you do shoot one is pull the nock back out about an 1/8 inch and the light goes out so they can be used over and over.

archerytalk.com has a thread somewhere about making them yourself, but I'll probably just buy em.

Goose 09-15-2006 07:00 PM

Archery talk is the nuts...acorn nuts that is:hee: A great way for early season scouting is putting out camaras(not that I have one..Theifs:() But spot lighting and glassing is another good way to find out if them big bucks are in the area. Spot lighting IS legal by the way in mass. If anyone needs paper work I can burn copies. I beleive winter is the best way to find buck/deer sign for the following season or hang some stands if I think they are deep enough or secluded enough. When I hang stands now I make sure they are stands with good visiblity so that I can make adjustments as the season goes on. Trim smart and give yourself good shooting lanes, hang on dry days its alot safer.

my first buck

well, i started hunting last year and i was lucky enough to draw on one doe but she just didnt come out from behind the shrubs... so i missed out on my big oppurtunity. but this season im ready ive been scouting and gettin everything ready.. i just got my first shotgun, remington 870, the other day.. but yesterday i got my first buck, and not with the gun or bow.. MY JEEP.... i was driving home from my friends house after work and i smoked it on the highway, spikehorns about 130 pounds or so... i guess i get to enjoy some venison before the rest... but my jeep is a total disaster

This season is looking promising

I was out this weekend, I had 3 incounters 2 does and a cow moose. 1 of the does busted me going in this morning (I was a little late) then the moose went by at around 180 yard at ruffly 9:30am. Yesturday I had a doe meander by at 60 yards if I had a gun it would be dinner.
:D
