They didn't call him "Moon the loon" for nothing !

rphud 06-26-2010 07:30 AM

over the years I have gotten past the Moon the Loon tag and really started listening through the band for his play. Some of the best rock stuff out there. Sometimes hard to believe he could play like he did considering what else he was "doing"

Stevie Ray this week, probably my fav one-two songs combo from any album

Stevie rocks...and so does this guy (john medeski). They are both freaks of nature. Anyone know what he's doing under that trap door on top of the organ?

I don't know what was going on with that post and the video pasting. Fixed with Old Folks Boogie and Skin it Back. Better check things out after I post.

chrisjoe13 07-04-2010 01:50 PM

Obligatory.
People sure were goofy in 1974! I was 3.

hey that wasn't goofy that was cool. Long haired bake outs are goofy, but happy. BTW I was 16 and the music period, either side of 5 years was the best.

chrisjoe13 07-05-2010 04:26 PM

I'm jealous, missed all the good stuff.

some old school jazz this week

Eric Dolphy playing Oliver Nelson this week

YouTube - ERIC DOLPHY, Stolen Moments (Oliver Nelson) ("The Stolen Moment")

chrisjoe13 07-10-2010 08:08 AM

Eric Dolphy pleases me!
Does anyone remember a recording called "newport rebels"?
I used to have a copy and would like to have it again.
I think the story was that a few musicians were asked to leave the newport jazz fest because of their habits (lots of drugs) and they recorded together. If I remember correctly it was: Eric Dolphy, Max Roach, and a few others.

chrisjoe13 07-11-2010 08:11 AM

Found the recording. Apparently they decided to boycott the festival on their own (too commercial for them). Max Roach, Roy Eldridge, Charles Mingus, Eric Dolphy, and some others.
