Iraq?
Are we still at war? Have all the soliders come home? I havent heard a word in weeks (maybe months?) about how things are going?
Could it be......things are improving? Getting worse? Could it be that the media does not want to bring it up so it will interfere with the primaries? The war is not a good thing for Dems or Repubs, no one has a plan..... whats the deal? |
Ignore it and it goes away?
Surge or no surge, 2007 was still the deadliest (US soldier deaths) year so far... why I hate the media as well. Push it to the back for now, and critique later. Whatever happens I am now convinced without permanent occupation, it will never change, lets get our boys home!!! and FYI, while I was getting ready for work, I had the TV on... Today Show this AM. Primary primary primary Brittany spears bomb in Turkey more primary news.... WTF |
seriously, I've been thinking about this for a few weeks, other the Christmas attention, there has been no news about the war. Pretty sad.

For the most part I think the primaries are simply pushing most everything out of the way.
Although the improved security situation has been covered in depth by the EVIL LIBERAL MAINSTREAM MEDIA by my reconing. Iraq is in a pretty interesting place right now. Violence appears to be down mostly due to Sunni leadership playing ball rather than shooting at our troops. It would seem that they've realized they can't regain power if they're dead. The police/military has also matured a bit and is able to maintain some level of control without the murderous tangents they were prone to the last few years. The Mahdi army has stood down as well making their job a little easier. The problem is there's still nearly zero political progress to provide any lasting stability. Best case: The lull in violence gives the factions some time to think about the future and compramise to solve some problems. Iran, Syria and Saudi Arabia don't exacerbate tensions. Worst case: The factions are just waiting for US troops levels to drop before fighting it out to regain control. Conflict spreads to the entire region in one shape or another. This could come to a head in a few months as it's expected that we're going to draw down some troops and the Iraqi government is going to get turned I believe. -spence |
in depth????
please provide some evidence, I have not see squat on the war in weeks. |
oh by the way - the primaries are not pushing the Jamie Lynn Spears news or Britney in the hospital news out of the way

I subscribe to US news and World report, Time and Newsweek. I listen to multiple news and talk radio stations for roughly 2hrs a day. i brwose CNN and Yahoo news routinley throughout the day. Nada on Iraq for a long time.......

Besides, if you click on World News on the CNN homepage you get... ...GASP... http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/meast/...ain/index.html Good news in IRAQ? It must be a web server error :smokin: -spence |
i give up
Freeze causes rain of frozen iquanas takes a headline over a key Al Queda leader being killed and its my imagination. |

Iquanas don't trump Iraq, but the recent events in Pakistan do. The homepage is a cross section of all news areas. Iraq is under World News on CNN.com, along with other very substantial global events all about terrorisim and other stuff. Musharraf denies Bhutto death role Abu Sayyaf militants arrested Key al Qaeda in Iraq deputy killed North Korea vows to bolster 'war deterrent' Turkish car bomb suspects arrested Earthquake sends residents fleeing Libya heads U.N. Security Council I look on FOXNews, NYPost or National Review...all obvious Conservative choices and I get more of the same. Heck, even the Weekly Standard (the neoconservative publication) doesn't really mention Iraq, aside from arguing that Gen. Petraeus should have been Time's man of the year. -spence |
i never mentioned in this entire post that this was a liberal media push.
I do think that the fact that the war, the biggest issue in the us today, does not favor either party since none of the front runners dem or repub have any brilliant plans, is one of the reasons the ware has taken a back burner. |
Richardsons plan: get them out now... too bad he only garnered 2% in Iowa...

And lookie here, right on the front page of the New York Times (an evil liberal mainstream media founding member) reporting good and positive things! http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01/04/wo...=1&oref=slogin -spence |

things could indeed be getting quieter there.
a detente with Iran over the nuke issue (we did extend an olive branch a few weeks ago, remember) ... goes a long way in curbing the violence in Iraq. |

I think Patreus should have been Time's Man of the Year.
I think the guys are doing a good job over there and finally have some support from home. I still think regardless of whether we should have been in there or not to begin with that Bush, Cheney, & Rummy MAJORLY let our armed forces holding the bag over there Oh, I don't spend too much time using the MSM as my news source... |
